Great opportunity to see Buddy's cymbal work. I have never seen or heard of another drummer playing cymbals like this. When he was a little younger, say in the 1970s, he'd use all the cymbals in this kind of playing, including the small splash. It was like hearing rain falling, but with rhythm, and it looked (I saw it live) like he was just smoothly waving his sticks like wands.
Best West side story ever! Buddy knew that when your a jet! you're a jet all the way from your first cigarette till your last dyeing day! Thank you Buddy and thank you God for placing Buddy on earth for us all to enjoy. always alive in my Heart Buddy Rich
At the end of Good News the lead trumpet player (who is obviously pretty new to the band) doesn't realize there is a rit. at the end and Buddy stares him down and throws his hands up after the tune is over looking at him. So funny.
Gods gift to drums period.

Seen Buddy many times back in the day. This was one his best bands. Great young players. Almost rivals the late 60's Mercy Mercy band.

Awesome change of style at 3:10 with the acid piano chords and out there alto.
One of the best Steve Marcus solos.
