I came down to the comment section to talk about how much this video helped me but then saw everyone else already did that... So instead let's talk about how schools need a major reform because CLEARLY, something isn't working if literally, every comment I read (and I read all of them before I got to the bottom of the page and YT had to load more) was about how shitty their professor was, and how amazing this lady is (which for the record I COMPLETELY agree with)
@Jeremy Wright ok, you assumed a stranger is in debt for college, assumed someone not learning anything just because someone taught better than college prof, if someone is ignorant in this conv, it is you.
It's weird when you hear a professor that actually seems to enjoy talking about the topic they specialize in. It's almost like they care enough about it to have a decent understanding. This lets them explain the concept extremely clearly. Hmmm.. I wish all of our teachers taught like this! Thank you!
Most professors ive had to date have been fairly passionate about the subject they are teaching. They are sometimes not the best teacher but that doesn't discredit their passion. My experience I guess but my professors have been great but I'm at a smaller university.
I have a midterm exam in Database I tomorrow, and I learned SQL before learning Relational Algebra. This video really helped me get a grasp on Relational Algebra and I'm feeling pretty confident now!
@@markwiedeman7271 Lol this took me back.. My Database I professor was terrible. I'm a Database Administrator now... we don't use Relational Algebra... shocker am I right 😂 (I mean, it teaches logic pretty well; AND, OR, XOR, etc.)
I understood the entire Relational Algebra concept just by watching this video once. It was so straightforward and brief. Thank you so much! This video really helped me alot.
I was searching to learn the same thing, but unable to find a proper video, at last this saved my time even after 8 years. Why such Universities are respected? Salute.
amazing how you can teach this so quickly. Now, I can't tell if it is a simple concept or if you are just a really good teacher. It's probably because you are a good professor. Thank You Very Much!
I wish there were videos like this for every subject and every category because this way learning would be much better. We always need many clear examples apart from simple theory for edge-cases and so many more.
"This is in fact the normal set cross product that you might have learned way back in the elementary school". Oh I must have skipped that day to prepare for an exam on the multiples of 3... Great video btw!
Amazing video, made this relational algebra stuff SOOOOO much easier to understand and digest than my professor, who just reads off the slides. Great work mam.
This absolutely helped me understand the topic after stumbling with the videos made by my university. Very well explained! Thank you for your service to enhancing global knowledge!
Thank you so much for explaining this subject. We just went over it in class for 1.5 hours and you nicely and simply explained it in less than 20 minutes!! Everything you said just made perfect sense :-)
TA's tell us you only understand 30% of what u hear in a lecture at my university, definetly not the case with this lecture we're just geting ripped off lmao. 10/10 lecture right here
Great explanations and examples, thank you for posting this. I have to agree with everyone else saying that this is not taught well enough in our classes.
Great video. Relational algebra was way too difficult to grasp, I wish I had this video at the beginning of the semester because this is so much more simple.
Thank you very much for this great tutorial. I’ve read a database book on relational algebra and the text example's were unclear. This video made it easy and fun to learn.
This is them 11 years ago, Imagine how far they've come now; My current professor doesn't even have the energy to do these explanations on a laptop and instead writes on a whiteboard. Mind boggling to say the least.
Thank you so much! I had a hard time to understand my professors script about RA. Found this video and i passed my exam for Data Knowledge Engineering Part 1. :D
Hi I have a question on page of 16:58: since the theta join is a natural join with condition, shouldn't it be equal to "Sigma_theta (exp1 bowtie exp2)" instead of othe cross product? Thanks!
My university really should give money to UA-cam. They even encourage us to study using "external source" (youtube, google mostly) while shitty lecturers and inexperienced tutors are teaching the shitty contents which are never used in current industry. and I am talking about Ranked 1 university in my country. I actually tested. I never went to any lecture and i only saw lecture outline and topics and studied only through youtube+google+SO and I got A. and they charge few K$ per paper. Exactly why geniuses drop out universities or never go to uni at all. Im not a genius so i need a degree + lot of internships on my CV to start out from graduate position. So much for a piece of graduation paper. Shitty university.
Wonderful explanation. You explained each and everything precisely and in a great manner. At first, when I played the video and listened to her voice I thought Google Translator is left on but later I realized that it was her voice... just joking. Nice accent actually.
So this is the power of Stanford professors. Impressive.
Have to say this is great...20 mins = 3 trash lectures given by my professor....
Yeah, this lecturer is a lot better than my lecturers.
hhhhhhhh I am also taking CSC343
lol accurate
Astaghfirullah, don't be mean brother 😅
Yes, they have a way of making simple things complicated

Thank you Professor for explaining in 18 minutes what my prof failed to do in 2 months

I learned more in the first 5 minutes of this video than I did in the whole semester of my DB lecture, thanks 🤩
ㄴSeriously. Agreed
I think if you paid attention in the class you would understand anyway
@@jay_wright_thats_right sure if these videos give us degree

@Jeremy Wright ok, you assumed a stranger is in debt for college, assumed someone not learning anything just because someone taught better than college prof, if someone is ignorant in this conv, it is you.
8 years later and this is still really solid content. Thank you for this.
Your video was way better than two whole semesters in college.
"like"... nooo, not "like". LOVE. This course saved my ass and my job a few years ago. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
edx's sql course didn't include the relational algebra videos even when the professor stressed how important they are. Thanks for uploading these.
are you sure? It's January 2021 and *edx.org* has Stanford's "Databases: Modeling and Theory" course, active. It includes Relational Algebra.

Your two videos on relational algebra taught me better than 3 two-hour classes combined. Why am I paying for college?
Because you need that piece of paper. (cry)

umm she teaches at stanford I think? So basically get into a good college lol

Idk cuz it’s obviously not helping, seeing that you missed that this is a college class.

Salute.
wow in just 18 mins I was able to understand something I thought was gonna end me. Relational algebra sounds scary but after this, I'm good!
Thank you. Now I have a better understanding what Relational Algebra is.
Twenty five years working in databases, but never had to learn relational algebra. My lecturer was "substandard". Thanks, this was a great video.

AMAZING so much better than my rubbish lecturer
This was so helpful! Thank you for taking your time and explaining this in simple terms! You are saving my life in grad school right now! 🙌🏾👏🏾
I love how you teach, this makes it so much simpler and easier to understand the way you explain it.
You honestly explained relational algebra better than my professor (all due respect to him). Thanks for saving me for my upcoming final.
Tbf it's weird to explain without very clear visuals, which is hard to do when some people sit so far away
This is pure gold. Wow!
Now I Understand how professors can make big difference.
Fantastic!! I've learnt more from your lesson than at University in a whole period. Your explanation was so clear! Thanks so much!

lmao exactly, do elementary schools in Cali teach set theory? 😂
I suppose that explains some things though...
Thanks so much. I spent a month and a half in the class and have no idea what is going on, got it from your 20-minute video. Thanks again!
Good pace and finally a video with a good english speaker!
And this is the real beauty. I watched a lot of videos on youtube but couldn't get the real intuition but this one really helped.
Honestly, this is the most informative session on relational algebra.
I put the video at 2x the speed and still learned everything she said. It does not get clearer than that!! Wow thnx a ton!
This was an amazingly informative and helpful video until 15:00.. after that it was all over my head.
Amazing video, made this relational algebra stuff SOOOOO much easier to understand and digest than my professor, who just reads off the slides. Great work mam.

Thank you for some of the theory behind databases. I'm currently learning the basics of A.I.. Just wanted to peek under the hood for a brief moment.
Such a clear and straightforward explanation. Best one ever about DB=)
