Long time Toyota buyer here with a 2015 Tundra and 2020 4runner. Was super excited about the 2024 Tacoma until I drove the TRD Offroad and Ranger Raptor. RR is the better driving experience.
Raptor should have been in Baja mode, for the anti-lag alone. If you're comparing how good two vehicles are at a thing, then put each one in their "best" settings available. Front camera also stays on in Baja. I personally think the TRD looks better but the RR does everything better, love mine.
Trd pro should've been made as an access cab/ xtracab because, with the stupid isodynamic seats, you cant fit anyone behind you. It's an over glorified 2 seater. You should be able to get an xtracab/access cab with longbed for the trd pro, with double cab short bed as an option.
You’re exactly right! Unfortunately, the Xtracab is only available in SR and SR5 trim, and no locker, or anything approaching the TRD Pro, in terms of suspension.
Both amazing off-roaders, but the Ford sounds soooo much better. This is the best POV comparison I’ve seen because you aren’t babying these monsters. Nicely done and thanks for the ride.
In every video featuring these tow trucks, the outcome is always the same: the Ranger Raptor comes out on top, leaving $10,000 more in your pocket! I have the tune for my Raptor as well, and it truly makes a significant difference in the truck’s performance.!
@@SKAR3EUnless you love driving a glass manual that breaks if you shift from 5th to 3rd. (Toyota had to tune their engine 10 horsepower less because those extra 10 horses were breaking their manuals)

I've been watching all of your ranger raptor content to a T. Not because I want a ranger raptor, but because I want an rho and there's no rho content available yet! Thankfully this is filling the void, so thank you.
Great video! Hard to beat the Ranger Raptor. I love mine. I think I might have been the first one to swap out the rims for the Bronco SAS rims, the wider offset really makes a difference in the stance. I did bump my tires size slightly to 295/70R17. I also recently swapped out brighter SAS simulated bead lock rings with the OEM Ranger grey rings that came on the stock Ranger Raptor rims. The rings are interchangeable. I also bought a set of black rings off ebay that I have yet to try out.
Heck yeah, your truck was the inspiration for the Sasquatch wheels! I’ve read through that thread on Ranger6g so many times. I’ve been thinking about painting my rings carbonized gray but for now am liking the way the silver pops. Your truck looks awesome, glad you’re enjoying it!
@@TheTopher Yep, that would be me. I think I may have inspired several guys over on the R6G forum to swap over to the SAS rims. Just that little bit of added depth to the rim just looks so much better than the flat faced OEM Ranger version. Having a SAS Bronco in my stable at the time I ordered my RR gave me the idea before I even had possession of my RR, I already had my SAS rims and custom tire size all setting in the garage the same day I finally got to bring my RR home. I think I swapped them out that same night or the next morning. Keep up the great work. Really enjoying the videos.
In my experience the issues with the Raptor are all in fit and finish. For example, the plastic housing arond the rearview mirror isn't mated to the ceiling of the vehicle, so there is about a half inch gap between the two. In addition, I have a side door trim that isn't quite flush in the channel. There are little things here and there in the interior that don't line up just right or whatnot. However, when it comes to the driving the truck is capable and fun-as-heck and essentially washes away the fit and finish issues that just sort of "irk" me.
Raptor is awesome but I believe the best bang for the buck is the ZR2. Not the bison but the ZR2. Would love to see the 3 stack up. All 3 are amazing trucks though and we are crazy lucky to have these trucks to choose from!
No doubt that the Colorado ZR2 (non Bison model) is the most reasonable to buy of the 3 but lots of issues with them. If you go to the colorado fans forum and read about all the complaints with the 2023 and 2024 Colorados and Canyons it will make your head spin. (Class action lawsuit on the 8-speed transmission and electrical issues), cameras that don't work right, dead battery's not once but several times from OTA updates and faulty modules, cab roofs getting severely deformed from car washes and driving in high winds, headlights blinking off and on when driving at night, faulty rubber front windshield gaskets leaking water into the cab, and that just naming a few. Personally, I test drove a new 2024 Colorado ZR2 then test drove a new 2024 Ranger Raptor bought the RR right after the test drive. The Colorado ZR2's 4cyl single turbo compared to the RR's twin turbo V6 405hp is laughable. Also, with the $800 dollar Ford Performance tune giving the RR 455hp and 536 lb-ft of torque it gets even more humiliating for the competition. Lastly before I bought anything I had my insurance guy give me a quote on what my yearly truck ins bill would be on both, 24 Colorado ZR2 and a 24 Ranger Raptor. Was really surprised to find out that both were going to raise my yearly truck ins bill $600 dollars more a year than my last truck 2019 Colorado ZR2 V6. I know that $600 more a year is not really a big deal but that just didn't sit right with me. Colorado ZR2 cost less money to buy and has way less horsepower but yet the yearly ins bill on it is the same as a Ranger Raptor?? That is so wrong on so many levels I can't even explain it.
every reviewer says the ranger raptor starts at 55k, but ive yet to see one under 60 and its never mentioned. your not getting a raptor much cheaper than a trd pro. the pros are discounted and the rangers are upsold.
4 months ago I started shopping them and it was impossible to find one at msrp. Took me about 2 months to finally get one without markup. I see them every day at msrp now in PA and Ohio.
Im loving the performance of the RR. The price of the Tacoma was the big deciding factor, but now I have the tune on the RR and it is such a fun truck to drive.
This ain’t even close. Tacomas are made in Mexico now and only have 4 cylinder options. The raptor has a 2.3Ltr 4 cylinder, a 2.7 6cyl, and a 3.0 ltr twin turbo, and is made here….easy choice in multiple ways.
The screens in ford's and jeeps are at least hidden in the dash. Whereas toyotas screen stick out like a sore fuckin thumb. They gotta change that. I don't need a screen in my vehicle. But if there is going to be one hide that shit.
The Ranger has the most power, best stock suspension, best payload, lowest price, most time in market (which means more reliable), built in the USA, the towing is the only thing that kills me... but whatever... It's the obvious choice in my opinion. I just wish it had both 60/40 seats and rear vents for my dog
I wish they didn’t rattle so bad. 70k for a truck that rattles is a no go for me. Way too much cheap plastic on interior. Raptor is way cheaper, better engine, high grade interior, better sounding, more fun driving, etc.
If i buy a trd pro i am not transporting people. I'm going baja running. If I want to transport people I buy the lower models or trail hunter with regular front seats
Why not just build a dedicated baja truck then that is actually good at baja running? I am guessing you are in the minority of people who buy a 65k factory truck and don't want to use it to do factory truck kinds of things like use it for transporting people. I guess we will see how sales are. I would never buy one solely for the rear seat issues.
So in moving the progress bar of the video back and forth between both trucks, I actually think I like the sound of the Toyota more, the sound of Ford's interior more(less moving and shaking of stuff,) and I think, at least from a distance, the Ford appears to have a smaller turning radius and looks like it handles better. So the real reason for purchasing the Toyota(its reliability) is in serious question, as, after the first year or two(gotta work out the "bugs,") I suspect it will be the more reliable, but the Ranger Raptor won't be like the other Ford products as it is an international truck; it will likely be decently reliable, and I find myself asking, is the Tacoma's reliability worth 5 - 10k more?
Just my opinion but I think Toyota dropped the ball with this gen Tacoma, just seems and feels like a total dud. And of course you've always got the prices with Toyotas.
