As the owner of a VW 1.8 COMFORTLINE (CL) model, I can confirm that most of what Bobby has said to be true. It's certainly a value for money car. And a very fuel economical one too. For RM170-00 of Ron 97 fuel, I get around 750kms in town and 1,000kms during my runs to JB and back to KL. This involves driving around speeds of 140 kms per hour on average. Hi Bobby after looking at the VW MY website the Passat Comfortline looks to be the sweetspot of the range, a walkaround and comparison video (like what you did with the A4) would be great!

I think the main reason why VW priced their cars this attractively is because of the clutch... once VW gets their clutch back together , reliable. Their cars will fetch a higher price. U will see a jump on their prices. Give them some time. Maybe 3 more years.
My mom wanted to buy a camry, the brand new one 2019, when i look at the website it only have 1 variant which is 2.5 and cost 189k... then i search for passat and surprised me so much when its only about 195k for highline 2.0..... so i convinced my mom to go for passat instead of camry and so far she seems to like it.... hopefully she decide to get a passat which is even cheaper for 1.8 tsi.. i would show my mom this video so thank you Bobby.... 👍🏻👍🏻
Passat HL is selling at 175k only bro, huge discount giving from VW. New Camry is good looking but surprisingly cabin space is actually smaller than current one. I felt it myself during my visit to KLIMS motorshow.

VW Malaysia screwed up their handling of the mechatronic failure, and subsequently marred their reputation (and sales). They are putting noticeable effort to restore customer confidence, such as extended warranty for the said affected system, lowering prices but not reducing standard equipment. I do hope VW Malaysia do improves as I really like their cars. At the moment, I will just stick to my BMW F30 which cost more than the full spec Passat but way less features and power.

+Basil Fabian well it doesnt compete with the e class here, it competes with the c class, and cheaper than the c class by some margin. The suspension is super pliant. No technological trickery. Just good ol super good suspension. Judging from the c class.... this is wayy comfier
Apparently, spy shots of this car which some may have seen are of test mules that has been running around the country for more than a year. These units have recorded up to 200k kilometres and the company has given the drivetrain the A-OK. No excessive use of oil. No oil seal problem. No problems. So the gearbox issue can be forgotten. Shame that it existed in the first place and ruined the brands reputation here, hopefully that thought would be washed away soon
Practicality wise there's no comparison, the HRV is very spacious for what it is. Handling wise the HRV is no slouch either. Silver Low bro, would you mind to share with us how you feel after drove for some time. I test drove TL last time the handling, power and room were impressive. Only thing concern is the tyre noise and TL seems missing some accessories. I am thinking to change car from C segment to D and thinking of Comfortline. Accord and Camry is out coz the handling and power are nothing to compare except both having huge cabin room. Btw Passat cabin room is roomy and it certainly bigger than Teana and Mazda 6.
@@aeroline11 the CL is just what you need in my opinion. However do know that it's a Dry 7 speed DSG. The tyre noise is actually quite quiet compared to the Accord. Easily solved with better tyres or some soundproofing. The 2.0 HighLine uses performance tyres. They are definitely noisier than the CL.

Dear Bobby, First and foremost - good reviews ! Came across your channel as I was researching for the civic 1.5 tcp. Been a fan/ subscribed and have been following ever since. Question ! Would you get the Passat 1.8 trendline or the civic 1.5 tcp ? About to purchase either one, but cant decide which. The top line civic has more electronic bells and whistles vs the rather basic entry level passat Appreciate your thoughts. Keep up the good work Say hi to Beng
+Nav Thiran if we were solely talking about the car itself, the Passat delivers a driving experience that beats many premium sports sedan category and behaves, insulates and cruises like a premium car. The Civic no doubt now handles like a Mazda 3 (almost) and has great performance too. But if you coupled in car ambience, the general look and feel. The Passat feels a lot more expensive. Ownership though, VW dealers are improving by leaps and bounds but still nowhere near Honda's dealer network coverage. And lastly, depreciation of the new B8 remains to be seen, but Civic has traditionally have the strongest, most illogically high used car value. If the last part isnt your consideration then the Passat delivers plenty that cant be placed into brochure to quantify your purchase while the Civic, like what you said, has plenty of kits and bells and whistles. But the thing i see being practical are keyless entry, walk away lock.
it seems to me now that the F30 might be a much more reliable proposition. but of course, the B8 passat's interior seems better built and much much more spacious. you can also consider audi a6 of the same year, much more reliable, comfortable, and low prices as well now. same goes to the bmw f10s.
@@BobbyAngmalaysia Thanks Bobby. F10 is also in my list initially. Noob question, would the maintenance cost of 5 series (e.g. 520i) be higher than 3 series (e.g. 320i)? Between these 2, again which is your recommendation? Thanks
+ReDZa DeLaRoCKa personal opinion? Passat. Because i dont just drive my car to and from work. I would love to engage in some weekend driving with friends, even have night drives with my wife. I enjoy performance and handling. I can live without the toys.
Drove the previous version, flew 220kmh no problem. The car was very composed at that speed. There is no car at that price that can deliver such performance and comfort. Issue is the reputation of this car and the after sales.
And furthermore, The difference between comparing an entry level B8 with a HIGH Line B8 is RM190.00 on a 9 year loan which is the common Loan Tenure of US MALAYSIAN's? Please portray an actual comparison here before you decide to make another video.... Don's mean to be rude but just expressing my 2 cents worth of opinion. Thanks and have a great week ahead.
Hi Bobby just an observation: I've noticed that your newer videos have much more jerky camera movement when compared to your older videos. Quality is still great but the jerkiness might give some viewers a headache. Just my two cents.
Hie Bobby, I'm Melvin and I'm the 1st commercial user fro the Passat B8 HIGH LINE here in Malaysia. I am however confused why are you comparing the PASSAT B8 with the Audi A4??? I personally own both and my personal opinion is that the PASSAT B8 High Line shoud be comapred with a BMW 528i. Reasons of this is as below: a. I have personally trashed my car against a BMW 528i 2017 model and the owner asked me if my car was of 300hp?.... Dude, Don't take the entry level specs for this car.. It's a GTI in a sedan form. b. I have test droven the new BMW 530e on the entry level and it has even lowe specifications compared to the PASSAT B8 High Line.... Even the salesman agrees with me after a short test drive in my PASSAT B8 High Line and the specs like remote sensing on trunk opening, easy entry and easy locking etc... c. I have friend's who have traded their Merc E250 (which I Own one) - 2017 and BMW 528i- 2016 towards gaining this car... Better responsiveness, faster acceleration and better handling. d. I am an avid driver so I click about 15,000km within 3 months... I guess please base your reviews's on the highest specifications rather than what you can afford because: i. If your budget is RM200k, you are unable to get even an Audi A4 or a C200 on the entry level. ii. Performance of an Audi A5 or an E250 AMG- 2015 is less then the PASSAT b8 - 2017. iii. Open the booth space and it speaks for itself. It exceeds even the Audi A4, A5, C200,, C250, even the E series (from personal experience). So, please check your review and PLEASE and PLEASE stop comparing the new PASSAT B8 to a smaller version of the Audi A4 and Merc C class.... It holds more ergonomic, economic and family values compared to your judgement.
Quirinus Jr i think its the turning thing cause the wheels were turning to the right so the right fog light lights up to supposedly "Light up more of the corner"
+alexander jason well if we're talking about segments, in Asia the D segments are Camrys and Accords; but in Europe D segment refers to S classes and 7 series. The A4, C Class and 3 ser segment is called B traditionally. Nowadays we dont really.bother much about it. Its really about how you bridge gaps between segments and carve your own unique proposition. I gave many examples in my video, hinting to everyone that globally, this car is being compete against the german sports sedan trio and has came out victorious a few times now.

Hi Bobby, am considering between this B8 passat 1.8 and F30 320i both as used car which are in same $ range. Which would you recommend? Thanks.
it seems to me now that the F30 might be a much more reliable proposition. but of course, the B8 passat's interior seems better built and much much more spacious. you can also consider audi a6 of the same year, much more reliable, comfortable, and low prices as well now. same goes to the bmw f10s.
@@BobbyAngmalaysia Thanks Bobby. F10 is also in my list initially. Noob question, would the maintenance cost of 5 series (e.g. 520i) be higher than 3 series (e.g. 320i)? Between these 2, again which is your recommendation? Thanks
Hi Bobby, tiguan comfortline or passat trendline, which one will you go for?
+Kevin Lim Passat. Because of that 1.8 engine. Terror.
Bobby Ang thanks Bobby :)
Hi bobby. How come the air- cond still working when the idle start-stop kicked in?
+tellasy TanYk all these new ones are like that. With regenerative braking
Bobby..this car or Honda Accord 2.0 Vti-L? Please bobby..need your personal opinion..
+ReDZa DeLaRoCKa personal opinion? Passat. Because i dont just drive my car to and from work. I would love to engage in some weekend driving with friends, even have night drives with my wife. I enjoy performance and handling. I can live without the toys.
Bobby Ang agree..after all, accord is boring
Can u change the halogen bulbs to bi xenon?
Hoping for a review on the hyundai elantra sport
Drove the previous version, flew 220kmh no problem. The car was very composed at that speed. There is no car at that price that can deliver such performance and comfort.
Issue is the reputation of this car and the after sales.
Moo Tik Pin Optima GT can compare in terms of performance... 242HP, 350NM
Bobby how does the sound system fare?
Ok. Not bad
Bobby Ang comparable to JBL, HK?
Pls try test drive mazda cx3
I bet it would sell like hot cakes if they swapped the transmission with a wet clutch. If they can put it in a 1.4 Tiguan why not put it here as well.
Ahmad Farhan the highline 2.0 is wet clutch 6speed.... if money doesnt matter just go for that one... 👍🏻
+j conrad yeah man .... not sure why .... the dji seems to have perform worse recently
what happened to your arm? bleeding leh
super bro
This is the Base Line is it bobby?
+Fareast Winters they call it the Trendline, yupe, it's the entry point to Passat.
Marshmallow Bobby. Still nice.
If trendline inlcude the DRL, this car can sell well. Otherwise jux wait for year end Christmas sales.
the interior is freaking quiet.....
Hie Bobby,
I'm Melvin and I'm the 1st commercial user fro the Passat B8 HIGH LINE here in Malaysia. I am however confused why are you comparing the PASSAT B8 with the Audi A4???
I personally own both and my personal opinion is that the PASSAT B8 High Line shoud be comapred with a BMW 528i.
Reasons of this is as below:
I guess please base your reviews's on the highest specifications rather than what you can afford because:
Sometimes I really envy Malaysian... This car cost about $150K SGD in Singapore. :(
GAV1N wow... can buy 3 here alrd. But don't you all have to pay for COE as well
B CZW $150k - 160k SGD including COE but excluding road tax and insurance etc.
+GAV1N same la bro, Malaysia drive bus RM3500 Singapore drive bus SGD5000 .... nvm la .... haha
What happened to the light at the lower left at 6:25?
Quirinus Jr i think its the turning thing cause the wheels were turning to the right so the right fog light lights up to supposedly "Light up more of the corner"
Optimus PrimeG1 correct, cornering light function. noticed it on many vw models
911's 😍
PASSAT = D segment.
German sports sedan = C, 3er, A4.
Bobby Ang well said ;)
the foglight is already unusable
+Calvin Ng it turns on following steering angle la haha
Bobby Ang I see.... lol
but still 7 speed DSG
