SURVIVORS
He broke his back
To put the food on the table
In Columbus Ohio he said to his wife
"I believe that the flag
It was more than a rag
But the outlaws in office
Have shattered my life"
Can you hear me Ohio?
You are the country
You are the nation
You will survive
Can you hear me Ohio?
You are the country
You are the nation
You will survive
Children in Cheyenne
Are taught in their schools
Believe in the country
Don't break any rules
But the T.V. is on and they
Know something's wrong
Someone must tell them
To keep pushing on
Can you hear me Wyoming?
You are the country
You are the nation
You will survive
Can you hear me Wyoming?
You are the country
You are the nation
You will survive
Devils and angels
Belong in the church
You try for the best
And you deal with the worst
Just keep on plugging
You old nine to five
For you are the heartbeat
That keeps us alive
Can you hear me Virginia?
You are the country
You are the nation
You will survive
Can you hear me Dakota?
Can you hear me Colorado?
Can you hear me California?
Can you hear me Wisconsin?
Can you hear me Arizona?
Can you hear me in Georgia?
Can you hear me in Texas?
Can you hear me Hawaii?
Can you hear me Alaska?
You are the country
You are the nation
You will survive
i was a friend of john and i can tell you that your tea party friends and glenn beck had nothing in common with john. John cared about America. Do not disgrace his name by associating him wiith Glen Beck.
Thank you John, for so many songs that really say something.
One of my very favorites of all his songs. Thanks
John may be gone, we may never have another talent like him, but I still miss him. This song written so many years ago was never more appropriate as it is today. I grew up believing in America and that she would correct her problems, but it looks like America is just tired of trying. I fought in a war, worked jobs for 40 years, voted my conscious, fought for the union hoping for a better America, I want to believe we will survive..
4GreenFrog I heard him sing in the 1970's at Ebbets Field in Denver when the album containing this song came out. An overlooked classic song.
We hear you, John! Thank you, God bless!

We are the country. We are the nation, and we will survive.
The key is "WE".
Lets go CanadianTruckers
These peaceful people are WE
Change a few locations and this song could be sung in Ottawa and other places. Todays movement of the peoples lacks that folk singer/song that brings it further together.
Only 72 views... sad.
I checked and its 12,000 views with 73 likes. 72 views would have been sad.
John Stewart also does an excellent version of "Moriah" when he was with the group, Darwins Army, since leaving the Kingston trio. Unmistakable voice, perfectly tuned for folk. Thanks a bunch for this vid, without it, I may have been still searching for John Stewart
