    His points are so fundamental to what we want our students to learn about good writing. I'm glad I found this and presented it to my newspaper and yearbook club.

    My new job starts at 7:30am every Saturday... I drive to this man's voice. I find ways to get my first break before his show ends just to run to my car and listen more.

    I have always loved NPR for its commitment to making the world accessible to everyone. "If no one is listening, why are you talking..." Exactly. No one benefits from over-intellectual blabberings that don't communicate to your intended audience. It shows you truly respect people with varied backgrounds, and that's so admirable. Thank you thank you thank you! Keep up the good work.

    -A point they can repeat to others
    -an attention grabbing beginning
    -has to be told in short, break it down and tell it in breaths
    -avoid fancy clause
    -explain who someone is after you introduce them.

    You are correct. Fossil fuels come from sunlight many years ago. We have to start getting significant energy from current sunlight. There's a small tidal power station in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, and the Danes get about 20% of their electricity from wind.

    I lost respect for Scott Simon when I heard him choke up while reporting on the dead in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, and realized I had never heard him choking up when reporting the deaths in Africa, Boznia, etc. That impression has never left me. I think that's true. I am one among many greens favoring nuclear power. The French have done it right in standardizing designs. In the stupid US, there are no two nuclear plants the same.

  • @lskarin
    @lskarin 15 років тому

    And don't think I'm defending all climate models. As a group it's clear they are works in progress.
    That's the nature of science. You see whether the model predicts correctly and if not modify accordingly. One test I would make is how did the model do in predicting temperature after the Krakatoa eruption.

  • @lskarin
    @lskarin 15 років тому

    Coal is worse than nuclear power in spewing radioactivity, besides heavy elements like mercury. The amount of waste from nuclear power is relatively small. I love the way the US obsesses about rdioactive power waste and ignore that made by weapons production.

    Realistically, no news station in the United States is unbiased. Npr, however, is probably the least biased of all of them. Yes I am a democrat so their left view of politics and the world may strike my pallet more, but compared to the majority of news outlets in the country they are probably the one station that tries and succeeds at giving people just the news, and not all of the political bile that other outlets will give you.

    I really just laughed when I read your comment. You say that National Public Radio is brainwash, and yet at least half of their programming is not the news. And even when it is the news, half of THAT is either just updates, their outlook on the news, or BBC's broadcasting through n.p.r. You really must have an extremely negative outlook on the world and your life, based off of the comment you posted.

    Terrific commentary by Scott. But ... the ping-pong, back and forth switching of cameras was ... well, meaningless. Yes, perhaps it's the style today but it also reveals a level of amateurishness.
