My husband was activated and on the ground two days before hurricane katrina hit and the military and local authorities made it quite clear that they should move out. He actually had people say that they wouldn't get on the school buses provided for evacuation because they weren't air conditioned. So the roads being clogged was quite simply the result of human stupidity. Yes people are that petty and selfish. And before anyone says anything...I live in Louisiana so yes I know first hand what was going on.
Cody is the man. His advice is practical and makes good sense. I'm currently enjoying his book. Putting together enough food to survive for 2-3 months is actually very manageable. Rice and dried beans are cheap in bulk and last years if stored properly.

Cody's books are a must read. Believe it or not, the grid has gone down before in the United States - luckily the grid was limited to Telegraph systems during the Solar Storm of 1859. It's happened before and maximum solar activity is again upon us... yikes! Even if it doesn't, with all of the recent natural disasters, meteors, asteroids, terrorist attacks, home invasions, and economic crises people really should think about being more prepared and self-reliant. It definitely can't hurt.
A Kudo to Cody, I thought of him when I connected my Classic #1 to my Bokor Black Rold, A while ago, I got the Rold, It's a great knife in D2 for the price. But the Sheath was Dangerously Loose. I did injure myself badly. Since then I put a Belt Loop on it, But the Handle Strap was a little loose. So that's where I put my Classic #1 on. Right in the handle strap, Not only did it tighten the strap up, But now I have two great knives that actually fit good and look good. I enjoy listening to Mr. London, and what he accomplished for our community. Thanx You Mr. Landing.

Good stuff. I've read both books. I also lived through three hurricanes in six weeks in Florida and grew up in rural Maine often being snowed in. The mind is the most important survival tool... that and a good knife.
I've went an entire year without a drop of rain: Duddleyville Arizona. It's a great thing to know your sitting on Arizona's largest water table 22' down.

As a fellow barefooter I can tell you that I get service even if there is a No Shoes/Shirt/Service sign. Many times I've had to educate people that there are NO health laws or codes about walking barefoot in public. I have letters from all 50 states that I can and have had to show to store employees/managers so that they can see firsthand that no law/code exists in their particular state. I have letters from chain/corporate stores absolving me of having to wear shoes, no matter where I am.
you do make a good point and i agree we should think better of ourselves yet still be on guard because as we all can see everyday evil is very real and men choose to not listen to their conscience regularly. when they become stressed, hungry, afraid..etc.. selfishness will be the real enemy wshtf no matter where you are.

My and my friends had a lil bet on what kills more per year, Heat or cold. I honestly thought heat but at least thought they'd be fairly even. No!... For every one person killed by heat, the cold gets 7.
Yeah most people just don't understand how dependable they are on their cities. First time I went into deep jungle I realized how dependable I was. Suddenly your life is in the hands of the people you are visiting, you realize you actually are not able at all to keep yourself alive, you realize you would die in 1 night if left alone. Its a pretty humbling experience tbh.
I think he "new guy", Joe, brings something different to the table. It's good to get the two ends of the spectrum when dealing with this subject. Joe has a different game plan and has some great advice as well.
How does he get his do-rag so perfect. I wear them too and cannot get them that perfect. He must have a smaller head than mine. I do use Shemagh Desert Scarves but those items are 42x42.
He does seem to talk about that quite a bit, but look what happened when that cruise ship lost power. That was one of their biggest problems and it was even parodied on SNL shortly afterward. Similar to what happens when trash collectors in big cities go on strike. That "stuff" piles up everywhere.
cody right i just made 5 gallon lowes pails of food i took a sharpie and put 8/13 or 9/13 that month and year done there canned food inside them, i made a composting tollet out of 5 gallon bucket and wood chips with old used tollet seat and iused left over wood! i made solar panels holders, making your own power, i did that a week ago! if water quits how do i take care of human waist! cody a great person for teaching people

For bikes and cars I know of a place thatuses silicone to inflate tires and tubes its about 40 dollars for one wheele on a wheelbarrel but you never have to worry about a flat ever.

Obviously you fail to grasp the situation. Cody is very intelligent, highly skilled and educated man; also in primitive or aboriginal living skills. He TEACHES at colleges, he teaches classes as his business, he designed and built a sustainable homestead completely off the grid. He is helping people prepare for emergencies, to live through disaster, to survive if lost or your car strands you in the middle of no-where in winter. He respects the earth and cooperates with the environment he's in.

I treasure the liberties that have been paid for in blood by those that went before us. The downside to these freedoms is an overriding culture of pervasive 'Me Firsts'. We have people trampled going into Wal Mart on black Fridays, as an example. Any survivalist culture really has to take that into account to be viable. It's a situation that will most likely exist.
read about how septic systems work...very informative. there are pet septic system type containers you can put in your back yard...they also have in home composting toilets!!! there are many ways to deal with this issue. cody harps on human waste because more people die from the aftermath (cholera, diarrhea...) than from the disaster. many an army was defeated not by the enemy but from disease caused by poor sanitary practices. if you have any questions give me a holler!
I made several lamps by taking aluminum beer or soda can that have twist off caps, adding wick from a cotton mop and using pork lard, last forever and it smells of bacon.

Watch a marathon of "Gangland" - when people get hungry and desperate, they will be as dangerous (or more so!) than the thugs on that show - also, research other countries where it's already happened, or even Hurricane Katrina! If you don't know history, you're doomed to repeat it. If the grid goes down that means no food delivery and no clean water supply, and those are critical. The unprepared will become desperate when they realize help isn't coming.
What this man is saying is if the systems fails what do you do. The Government fail action must be immediate. I Love my Government but They need to look at the Future.
The problem with medical training is that even a medical professional like myself is helpless without medications, dressings ect. The best bet are the basics. Basic 1 water, basic 2 food, basic 3 medications IF neeeded and mostly faith that God will see to your needs!!
