- My 1,872nd kite video. This was a short first trial of this great new item, as the weather turned bad quite quickly, but I hope to have the dolphin in action again soon. I think I may have had the bridle lines spaced a little too widely, but I'll check next time.
Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz . - Спорт
The dolphins look like they are swimming! How unique, thanks for the video Jim I really enjoyed it:)
Yes, the swimming action, particularly with Freddy's one, looks good, especially when the wind is stronger. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Abby.
I was just looking at those kits the other day, but came to the conclusion it was beyond my skill level as well! They are lovely once constructed by someone who knows what they are doing. Nice to see one flying - thanks Jim.
Yes, I knew I wasn't going to be able to do a proper job of sewing it, so I was lucky that Peter was on hand. Properly made, it's great, but in my hands it could have been a disaster.
Freddy , dit is vakwerk !!! JIM veel plezier met deze vlieger.
It's a beauty, for sure, and will "fly" often. I think we shall see many more of them. I know that some people are making three or four, maybe more!
Wow these dolphins are huge! I was looking at the size of the human to the kite, just wow. Yes I think Freddy's Dolphin looks really great, also takes as skilful kite master to launch it! Love it!
Thanks for watching!
Now that's a pretty cool looking Dolphin. Great video Jim thanks for sharing :)
Glad you enjoyed it, Armando.
Thanks Jim. All together Alaskiters have 5 on the way in assorted colors and it was nice to see the final product in the sky. Looking to see them join our whale pods also via PLK.
Freddy certainly did a good job designing this, Tim, and I'm sure you and the gang will have fun with yours.
Well done on the video. I do like the orange and black. Peter, you did a great job. Not quite the same as kite sewing but nice to have a finished result.
We are waiting to see your dolphin now, Carl. I'm sure you can do a better video, as I had to hurry this one to take advantage of a very short interval when the weather was almost suitable for flying.
Thank you Jim and peter for sewing :) . Awesome and a dream to see one of my items in a video,
Thank you, Freddy, for this great design and for sharing it with others. I hope you are receiving a suitable financial reward for your efforts. I will certainly try to fly it again soon, and Carl will be showing his dolphin in a few days, I think.
Hey Freddy, where do you sell the kit or just the plans? Great looking piece. Jim "flew" it wonderfully
@The Kite Guy Just Google it, Jake, you'll find the source (it doesn't come from Freddy). I didn't mention it as I wanted to give all the credit to Freddy, not to the company marketing the kit-set.
👍
That is a great looking Dolphin. Nice piece for your collection. Thanks Jim!
It certainly is, Dewey. I think these will be seen everywhere soon.
Looks great, Jim! I bought 3 of them for me and my dad to assemble. Haven't started the project yet but maybe this weekend. He's good on a sewing machine, so hopefully we can figure it out together.
I'm sure you'll do a good job, Donna. I've heard the second one is much easier, and the third even more so!
I have one on its way. I can''t wait to get to it. It certainly looks great.
I'm sure you'll have fun with it, Ken.
Beautiful fish 🐟
Yes, it's a good design, Vikram.
Looks great Jim I have two but it will be a fews weeks before I get any in the air
Taking my time sewing them all
Brian, if I'd sewn my own I doubt if it would ever have made an appearance. I know it's not an easy task, for sure.
sidenote. I think the 2 dolphins are completly different in idea. You can not compare the two. that one is also awesome and flies without a dorsalfin bridle.
I tried to be a little realistic. the other one from Ivo is cartoon look.
Agreed, Freddy, but there is also a great difference in the quality of the design and manufacture. The blue one doesn't actually perform very well either, although it was on its best behaviour in the shots I took of it.
The dolphins were so fun to watch. I was shopping in town; 10 Big kites were just going up here. BUT I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAMERA!!!
That's a terrible thing for a keen photographer to admit. I thought most people these days used their phones to take photos. My phone dates back almost before the invention of cameras.
No Way. I would not own one of those phones. Because of them no one would no longer buy my photos. Everyone thinks they now know how to take photos. Why should I buy one of their expensive phones? My land line is just fine. People ask me for my mobile number. I say I just have only a land line. They tell me back they can't call those numbers anymore. I tell; YOU JUST LOST MY BUSINESS. I WON'T BE SHOPPING HERE ANYMORE. They don.t know what to say then. Am I getting too set in my ways?
Jim, is the frog a 7 or 10 sqm? Monica sent a 3sqm with my 16sqm trilo a few years back. I gave it to a friend.
It's a 7. I'm surprised you gave away the smaller one, as it's a great kite and can fly well even in a very high wind.
I can not work out how it achieves and maintains inflation, Jim.
The mouth is a valve. same as the orca.
@@Freddystapersma69 Freddy, I have worked off and on for several years attempting to get a pair of 15 ft orcas to work properly. I have put flexible spars along the upper and lower lips. I have made an internal ripstop funnel. I have separated and grouped the bridles for the face apart from the bridle for the body. Nothing works. In flight, the tail and the body behind the dorsal fin will inflate, but that which is in front of the dorsal fin collapses into a waving flag. I am very close to cutting it up.
As Freddy says, Glenn, it's a valve, and I can confirm that it works very well - you need to stick your arm in the mouth when deflating the dolphin in order to get the air out.
@@JimNicholls or add a zipper like I did in mine ;)
@@JimNicholls Jim, if it takes that kind of physicality to empty the air bladder, it must something special for air to get in initially. Why does the melon not flatten or the cheeks compress into a pinched expression? I am vexed with my orca.
