  • Last year, I shared my top ten (with a lot of cheating) favourite models from Safari Ltd, and then CollectA. I always meant to get to my Carnegie Collection, but many things transpired to push it back. Until now.
Here, I share with you my top ‘ten’ favourite models from the line that started it all for me, almost thirty years ago. It has been a very long journey, and it’s a blessing that I have managed to keep my love of dinosaurs, and of models, for so many decades.
In this Part 1 video, you’ll start to see how models of yesteryear looked like, and if you’re old enough to have collected some of these, hopefully they will bring back many pleasant memories just like they did for me. Enjoy!

Being one of the oldest dino figure companies, Carnegie paved the way for most of these new companies, and we all should be thankful for that to Carnegie ❤

Thank you! If you have any of your own, my hope is that you'll take the time to look and appreciate them in a new light. We're spoilt by PNSOs and Rebors today, but the Carnegies paved the way! 😁

    Hi it's me again,
I have a smile on my face every time you release a new video. You bring up some very solid points about every single detail of every singe model. In this particular video i loved to see all the old models that were so incorrect and compared to today, some are downright funny. On another topic, whats your favorite "cheap" good quality model. I'm still a beginning collector and I am very keen on expanding my collection. A problem I run into though are some of the prices, and also the wide variety of different scultps and paintjobs. It makes choosing really hard.
Keep doing what you're doing. I can't wait for the next one.

Hey nice to hear from you, thanks for writing!
To answer your question, first what are your personal priorities? For example is scientific accuracy the most important thing to you? Or is sculpted detail more what you're looking for? Do you have size or scale preferences? What models do you already have, and do you aim to flesh out the variety across all groups, or do you have specific group preferences? And what price range would be considered cheap for you? You see there are quite a few factors to consider! 😁

@@DinosDragons I have the repainted Papo allosaurus, the Papo acrocanthosaurus and a ripoff version of the Papo spinosaurus which i repainted myself. I have recently really gotten into more scientific models from PNSO in particular. In terms of scale i dont really have a preference. As long as there is a nice balance of everything. Good paint, good detail, good accuracy, etc. At this time with all the inflation and price chaos i would say around 20-30 euro's would be cheap. Im also really into every type of dinosaur, hadrosaurs, theropods, etc. I also just wanna say that I'm really bad at making decisions, I don't wanna make you feel like you have to make a decision for me. I would like some general directions of good models for a reasonable price.

My favourite styracosaurus even today! Completely unique paint scheme ( the subtle lavender-grey) and very satisfying cross use of frill colours with two-tone mouth colours, such that you don't notice that they're the same hues till you look for it.
Btw, Jurassic Plastic and Carnegie Mountain are one and the same thing! Just for your Reference :)
Looking forward to part two with what I'm sure will be an obligatory showcase of the Corythosaurus...one of the best dinosaur models of all time! Thanks!

Sadly, I couldn't find my hardosauriforms until after I finished the videos! Otherwise my Corythosaurus and Iguanodon would definitely be in that video. Strangely, my Maiasaura also seems to have disappeared. Not to mention my Tanystropheus. I can't for the life of me figure where they went!

From what iv read somewhere carnegie ended because of the dispute between the companies vision of where the line should go ,the company wanted a more kid friendly unrealistic figures and the sculptor wanted realistic figures, neither could come to an agreement and so they parted ways ..the report might still be on everything dinosaur website ,just so i might have missed some details...

Wow thanks for that Jack! Years ago I wrote to one of the suppliers to ask for the true story. He was very coy and evasive about the whole thing, and I never got the story although I suspected there had to be something going on. You have given another perspective to look at. Sad 😔

Great video and excellent selections (and thanks for the shout out 😊). I agree with your assessment of the early Carnegies, people often discount them because they have been out-accuracied, but the sculpts are actually quite good and many were very accurate for their time. The skin texture on many of the more common models is, as you pointed out several times, quite crude and ugly but it should be noted a lot of the ones you showed here are the inferior secondary molds which have been copied from the original sculpts, often quite badly, and in particular the skin texture is totally different and usually much better in the original 1989 figures. The original Dimetrodon doesn’t look quite as much like a melted candle 😂

      Thanks for dropping in!
I was rather disappointed to learn that my Dimetrodon isn't an original. If I recall correctly, I bought this very near to when they were first released, probably late 1989 or early 1990. Would there have been time for pirated prints to pop up around that time period? I would imagine pirating wasn't quite so prevalent as it is now.
By the way, I love your videos. You have a immense depth of knowledge in a subject of passion that I always respect in people, whatever their field of interest!

    • @jurassicplastic2539
      @jurassicplastic2539 Рік тому

@@DinosDragons Thanks for the kind words! I don’t mean to imply that your copy of the Dimetrodon is pirated or a bootleg, rather that it is a copy of the original mold used by Safari itself. Most of the official Carnegie figures from the early 90s are not the original molds but seem to be inferior copies, similar to bootlegs but they are official releases. Either there was some problem with the original molds or, more likely, Safari copied their own molds to increase production capacity. This practice continued in the late 90s color vinyl era where two sets of molds for each figure were made at the same time. The copies from the late 90s are much better quality and hard to tell apart from each other but they have either a 1 or a 2 mark on the belly, presumably so Safari would know which model came from which mold to help with quality control.
