- We are going to do a crash course on how to turn your cell phone into a satellite phone
First lets do a quick overview of the Iridium go itself. Its an extremely simple device. On one side we have two ports one is for charging and the other is something you don’t want to accidently press but is important to know where it is, the SOS button. On the other side we have a small port for an external antenna. On the top we is the built in antenaa which pops up and automatically turns on the device. If you fold up the antenna it shuts off.
Turns out that the Iridium go is not a phone but more like a wifi hot spot, so you need to use your personal device as your phone.
You'll need to use the iridium go app on your phone. This works on Android or Apple products. MAKE SURE YOU do this before you go off the grid!
Ok now lets make a call! And who else should you call but us at satellite phone store. First thing is to put your phone or device into airplane mode. Then go to your wifi settings and select iriudim device. Go into your app and login as guest with password guest. Now here is an important step, you must put the country code before the number. Here in the US that’s 001 then area code, you don’t need another 1 after the 001

Is the sound quality good?
Yes it has good sound quality, sometimes better than the satellite phones.
Are we all going to have to do this when we have our cell phones become set phones? Because something tells me when somebody goes out to get a new cell phone they'll have to keep their old number but in the meantime you get another number it's called a set phone number basically I don't know how that's going to work but I do know the 8816 part. And I do believe after that you get a 9 digit number. Kind of like your social security number it's all nine digits so it's basically 8816 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 so I see where that's coming from so we're all going to have to remember that number. But that's going to get very confusing between your cell phone number and your satellite phone number. But I don't know how this is going to work but I can tell you this much right now it seems like we don't know what you're going to end up coming out first the 10 digit number or the satellite number which is actually 13 digits to be exact.
