I don't like the charger. My old Iridium charging cable plugged directly into the phone. The addition of the charging 'dock' with the 9575 Extreme is just one more thing to break or go missing.
Cosmetics are a non-issue with things like this. People who are willing to plunk down $1k for a phone like this and then pay for the astronomically priced plans aren't worried about appearances. These phones need to be extremely durable, hold a battery charge for a long time, be usable with gloves (hence the buttons) and be able to work anywhere in the world. Those are the main priorities.
I have a Iridium Extreme 9575 Satphone just like this, and YES it a unique kit and in some situations it is indispensable. Great that it is available. But it has too many silly shortcomings! The Iridium network only works from a position of a clear sky, not under a roof but that is the "nature of the Iridium Beast". The Iridium satellites spins around and the quality depend if you can lock on a good satellite nearby. So sometimes you need to wait 10 or 20 minutes. The worst with this is the the 30 year old and strangely outdated phone technology! Back to the past blue-black back-lit pixel screens and tap tap tap interface of yore. The American tech companies are making so "not today" phones. The screen is shit (sorry, but true...) and all connections are puny weak and vulnerable "dumb special" connections. No standard USB connectors to be seen for charging for example. Some of the phone connectors must be seen to be believed, absolute crap and the most serious risk. Of course the accessories use different voltage! What good is a phone you can't charge due to a snapped plug? You Must be very careful when you charge it because if it moves or drop when charging you are done. With my experience I would personally chose a 2-way Iridium "hot-spot" unit that is able to connect to a "real" phone via BT. The sound quality is very poor due to EXTREME voice data compression. Again this is like 30-40 years olden phones, but the "excuse" is that it is a global satellite device. This 9575 phone can send messages but it is like 20 - 30 years ago, click click click click click click click click click click click click. Think long and hard before you choose!!
1. it's not 3 grand. 2. in a real life situation where you'd need this phone, you'd never think of the cost of $100/min because it could save your life.

VERY NICE demonstration of how to use it. I would have liked to see how others can monitor your coordinates.
Plus when satellites fail!
you go from the "not set up for GOES" screen to making a call. What did you cut out?
How long does the batteries work? cheers
do you need to pay for a plan like a regular cell phone with this satellite phone?
yes

619 area code?? San Diego
Cool video.
Why you didn't complete the call to show the other phone ringing and the signal quality, delay, etc?!
Probably because it cost money and that doesn't grow on trees
good question
Why are Iridium phones looking lot like cell phones from the 90s?

It costs $600 with 2 year contract or $800 with 1 year contract, costing $100/mo. for 100 min/mo.
Free airtime?
No.
Apparently Zelensky is using this exact phone because it cannot be tracked.
imarsad

you left out the hookie adapter you have to install just to charge the thing. And then remove or you loose the IP water rating.
