I'm from the Philippines and raised here in New Zealand for 12 years, I adopted NZ culture and I got used to hearing NZ slangs from high school like the words heaps, yeah nah and churr and skuxx

Heaps is very Aussie too, so is "she'll be right" also bugger, heaps, togs, on the piss, piece of piss, taking the piss, squizz, suss, chockablock, karked it, dag, wag, stoked, keen as, flannel, cuppa, avo, arvo, ambo, servo, ta. Maybe we got them from you Kiwis, after all there are about 570,000 kiwis in Oz, more than 10 percent of your citizens!
The Aussie expression "No wucking furries mate!" is probably quite easy to understand :)
I'm from South Africa and my fav word we use is "lekker" not sure if you'll know it😂

Because most of these slang words are extensively used in Australia too. We don’t say chur, jandals, bro, choice as, hoary. Heaps is another one used in Oz. Dairy used to be used in Oz but got replaced by Milk Bar in the 60s.
We remember that ad with the dog saying “bugger”.
Yeah, Nah... means along the lines of... "I want to, but can't", or "Maybe, but no thanks"... or "ok cool but no thanks" ...
Nah, Yeah ... means along the lines of... "I shouldn't but ok", "That's not right but ok sure", or even "really? ok lets do it"...
Different regions have different slang... and even different ages have different slang... just like there is around 5 or 6 distinct accents... and is always evolving
bit of a dag... It is also used to describe an amusing, quirky and likeable person (as in, "He's a bit of a dag") and is non-pejorative. The term was more widely used in the 70s due to the popular New Zealand comedy of Fred Dagg (John Clarke).
Avo, Devo, Ambo, Servo are more Aussie sayings not many people in NZ actually say those with the exception of Arvo.

Hehe! I was surprised when I picked up some of these. A couple of the slang terms you mentioned are used here in Jamaica and in the southern part of the US. 😄
We use Esky for a cooler in Australia because that was the brand name for them for years.
And I believe Stubbies started as an Australian clothing company, specialising in men’s shorts.
I reckon it's "Sweet as"...lol

We say “heaps”but it’s the pronunciation that is different and that is probably why you weren’t understood. We pronounce it heeps and it sounds like hapes from you.

Hi Dani, I have just found your channel and subscribed. My mum was a New Zealander and I look on New Zealand as my second home. I currently live in Melbourne Australia. Here is an interesting Aussie slang phrase "Home and hosed". This is when a person successfully reaches their goal at whatever they are doing. Incidentally, quite a number of the New Zealand slang words are also used here in Australia, though there are a few I am not that familiar with. Jandals are thongs here in Australia. stubbies can be shorts or a stubby can be a drink. No, we don't drink shorts. LOL. Gum boots are also galoshes here. Either name will do. Here is one to think about. if a person is very well off financially here they are "riding on a pig's back". Karked can also mean broken or not working here. Anyway, wishing you all the best. Robert.

Hi Dani, my favourite New Zealand city is Wellington. I suppose, it may be partly because that was the first place that I stayed at when over in New Zealand. I used to have relatives living at Island Bay. Wellington is an awesome city. I visited New Zealand five times during the 1970's, though mostly the North Island. The only places that I have seen in the South Island have been Picton and Christchurch. We actually moved here to Melbourne back in 1981 and before that we lived in Sydney. Anyway, take care. Robert.

I’m not sure whether it’s a Kiwi-ism, but manky. Like if you have some really worn out shoes then they can be considered manky. Can also be used as a personal insult but not usually. Cheers!

Love your channel Dani. I’m from America. Stoked is common here too. Far out became popular here in the 60’s, but not so much today. My favorite American slang words are:
1.) tight-“That’s tight bro!”
2.) bro-“Hey bro, what’s happening?”
and
3.) ‘sup-“Hey, ‘sup bro?!”

Honestly both countries are amazing you can’t really go wrong with either 😊 UoA is great in Auckland and Uni of Sydney is super good too. Work wise it would depend on what your job is. Hope this helps!
