I'm fascinated by this suit and discussion. The journey was never for me, but i think you hit the nail on the head with the inconsistency- that allows allegations of discrimination and unfairness

100% agree with your perspective. I’ve been surprised by how many UA-camrs are so dismissive about the claims raised in the suit. Birkin or not, if a company is practicing illegal sales tactics they should be held to account. If there’s no merit to the suit, fine. Very interested to see what comes out of this! Yes I think the defensive position is coming from those who like the game as they are beneficiaries of if - but if their luck was different I think their views would change too.
Loved your video! I am lucky enough to be in Paris where the stock is (usually) higher, and I have a great SA, so while I don't get a ton of bags every year as some influencers do, I am certainly grateful for my collection. At the same time I completely understand where the ladies in CA are coming from, and they are well within their rights to sue. Hermes is violating the antitrust law; yes, other companies do it too, but there's no exception for luxury goods. The law is the same for every business. I do not believe that they'll win, because it's hard to prove linked selling though; SAs will never put that in writing, so it becomes unsubstantiated.
I have, however, been quite annoyed at other videos (and there have been several) from the luxury youtube community calling these ladies crazy and entitled for bringing to light what is an illegal practice. Especially when these come from people taking advantage of a different system that doesn't rely on linked selling. I've had to unsubscribe from several youtubers for the stance they took on this, especially when they make fun of these people, when they don't even realize what the lawsuit is about; it is NOT about hermes not selling someone a bag they want (every company has a right to refuse to do business with you), it is about in order to sell them a bag, requiring them to first buy other items. This is illegal, and it would be just as illegal and prone to lawsuit if a supermarket did the same thing, e.g., forbidding you from buying cheese unless you first buy 10 lobsters :)
Very well put, I think it shows how influenced we can be about what it means to be favoured by these brands!
The word “ journey” rubs me the wrong way as I look at people with cancer, women trying to conceive, people going through the death of a loved one or divorce a “journey “. Getting an Hermes bag is just leather . Why people play the “ game” beats me . We created this game and Hermes decided to not only play the game but beat us at the game( we the consumer decided to create this environment based on how we are so desperate and will do almost anything to obtain this bag) even if it means buying items we don’t love to getting in debt . It’s simply crazy . I refuse to engage in any games with Hermes; and I love the brand . 😊

@@DaylesAddiction No every single Hermes item I bought it because I loved it. When the time comes I’ll ask my SA for a Kelly ( probably gold with gold hardware ) if she says “ yes” great . If not that’s ok too. So many other important things in life to keep me stressed lol Hermes Birkin or Kelly will never be on the list. 😄

Whenever I hear people say they only buy the Hermes stuff that they love, I roll my eyes, really? Let’s be honest, if there is no Birkin/Kelly, would you still be buying those overpriced diamond jewelry, uncomfortable shoes, grandma style clothes? Also talk about investment value, people forget to count the junks they have to buy into their cost basis, only the kind of bag that you got with no purchase history are good investment bags, then how many people can get that kind of offer🤷♀️

As an American who has worked as a paralegal in antitrust in a previous life, I actually find this lawsuit really interesting. It's been ages since I've worked in this space but I'm hopeful that the lawsuit moves forward, if only for the Discovery phase, as I'm sure there's plenty of internal documents that better outline what the "best practices" are in terms of selling their products. Right now it feels very much like practices vary store by store, country by country. Even if we can get slightly more transparency into the process via Discovery I think it will be great.

I love your perspective. I have mixed feelings on the subject. Yes, Hermes needs to abide by the laws in countries within which they operate but also, as a consumer who knows the unspoken rules of the game you know you're not guaranteed a bag so don't complain when you don't get one. And don't buy things you don't want. If you want a bag so badly (and especially if you don't want other things) skip the game and buy exactly the bag you want from a reseller.
Logical right?! But is it fair to say that the players are logical? 🤭🤣

I totally get it, I’ve spent a lot of money at Dior, Loius Vuitton, Chanel & Hermes, and I guess I just didn’t portray being rich enough, or I didn’t hit the SA lottery, cuz not one of them, even so much as created an account for me, so how does one get on the list for being offered to purchase a bag, or get those special little gifts they give out to people who spend a certain amount of money at their stores. At Hermes, I purchased the $4000 Herbag, went back a month later, purchased boots, some scarves and the scarf rings, not saying this is enough to tally up being on the Birken list, but it’s never going to add up if they don’t at least create an account “Gavin”. Then just across the street at Dior, I purchased a $3000 sweater and a $6000 jacket, lo & behold at what point “Kenneth” do you think you could have created an account for me? Or did he actually think this was just a one off and just couldn’t bother? Don’t even get me started on the other 3. This is my hard earned money, and on that alone, we deserve the same respect as anybody else who comes in there, regardless of how we look. Maybe even more so! With that being said, they get back what they deserve. I’m glad someone has the money to sue their asses. This is the universe giving them back some karma for treating people like garbage! I’m literally thoroughly annoyed with the games and the disrespect, I’ve totally lost interest in their stuff. Now I just look at their products as overpriced jokes. There are other luxury & contemporary brands that offer beautiful quality bags for a much better price, excellent customer service & not only do I not have to worry as much about the bag, but I don’t have to play the games, I think that’s the direction a lot/most of us are heading in these days.
Thank you for sharing your experience, it’s seriously the strangest way to create a luxury experience. But the people who are in the ‘account club’ don’t see it like that as they got their spot and became defenders of the process.
So many people say they love the brand but they mean they love one part of the brand. I know of not one person in this online community of luxe shopping that shops regularly at Hermès for goods irrespective of hoping to buy a quota bag. Yes they like their shoes and scarves but nobody is shopping for a full dinner service for 18 people, or saddles for polo ponies, or diamond jewellery to gift to friends but those are the people Hermès want. They used to be the monied ones but now a lot of us have the money, just not that lifestyle and I don’t think Hermès know how to handle that. If you tell your SA you love everything the brand offers then they’ll likely expect you to buy whatever else they sell and maybe only suggest a bag every couple of years. How can it be proven to be linked selling if you didn’t actually get a bag? If it’s truly just the bag you like, buy it through a reseller and have done with it. Amelia Rose probably saved herself money the way she went about it 😅.
It's linked selling bc my SA told me verbally there is a 1:1 ratio pre-spend before an offer can be made.
Ive only ever shopped with friends at Hermes, never myself. And it is a strange energy ... but I am very sensitive to feeling energy in the room and from people...
I don't care for Hermes, its not my style. Maybe a super vintage one would be, as an archival piece, sorta beat up and worn. but not the boutique.
Yes I’ve popped in for shoes or a look with friends but never set out for an Hermes shop.

Never been on my radar- i have Hermes scarves and shoes and belts purchased because I loved them- never for a bag. I will not play or spend the$$ on a reseller. Nope.

I'll never afford a bubble gum pink small like I want. My money goes to boats, jet skiing and my daughter's wedding. So I searched Poshmark for an unknown name in almost same style. For only $45 Im getting what I want , almost. Lol
Got to say you are spot on with this one. The absolute disparity between countries, states and even stores is ridiculous. The stories from US buyers are worse where they can even specify the spending ration required. What I find saddest is the UA-camrs covering the story who are not prepared to honestly call out Hermes and are terrified of offending Hermes and being blacklisted forever in the future.
The fact that they do UA-cam and play the game doesn’t serve them well, so they have gagged themselves I believe.

i was chasing QBs right up to a point where i realized i didn’t want to pay for 3rd party validation of my worth anymore. so now i shop at LV whose customer service is quite unparalleled. before i spent a dime, they have fed both my kids juices and snacks, to make sure mummy has the brain width to decide between a side trunk and a multi pochette. i forgot what luxury shopping was supposed to be all these years chasing elusive bags at H.

To be honest I'm Hermes hater from a longer time and to me people that are following for their games are not actually in right mind. THIS BRAND IS HUMILIATING THEIR CLIENTS !! Even idea of Hermes journey is so diminishing and humiliating. It suppose to be a luxury experience ? This is how it looks like ? I'm spending crazy amount of money to feel like a sh*** and not worth of honour to have one of their bags ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fantastic video! Love your sassy and wise attitude! 🥰I think the lawsuit itself will lead nowhere. But I also think it is fantastic that those ladies from CA did what they did: Raise awareness about a shitty and unfair system. Am I on a journey? Hell, no. Do I like that brand and their products? Double Hell, no! But I like when things are fair and correct and I despise when people are being used or taken advantage of. It's about the principle. There's nothing luxurious about that "journey". It's an SM relationship where the submissive part doesn't get any pleasure out of it. It's just bad. All of it. And I like that people now are talking about it all openly. This might become one of the exceptions to the general rule "all press is good press".
I think the worst part is the deception, I hope it shifts either their thinking or some of their customers feelings around fairness.

Hi Dayle, just thought I'd let u know some of us love, enjoy and use our Hermès dinnerware and other goodies. They don't sit on my shelf as trophies, nor does my bag, SLG's, footwear, etc. They get used and enjoyed. I didn't buy them as a prelude to a B or K, I bought them bc I love them. In fact, I buy more of my items from the website as opposed to the store, and some of my dinnerware from other retailers if it's not in stock on the H website. So my chances (buying the items the way I do instead of using a particular SA) are much less likely of getting a quota bag. Sadly, if I did want one my probability of getting one would be very slim, even tho I've purchased over $10k with them.
That said, if it's true I hope the ppl win. Tying is against the law, period, end of story.

If I was in the position to do so, I’d totally do what Amelia Rose did and buy the exact Constance 18 I want from a reputable reseller. By the time you factor in the excessive unwanted purchases, the trip to Paris or somewhere else with a boutique if you don’t have one in your home city, and then the chance or possibility of a leather appt, and then the chance that they even have a bag available. No thanks. I like what I like and I’m not into the BS or the drama.

It was lovely when you could just walk up to the store and ask them what they had in stock, no prespend required. That’s how I got my first 2 Birkin’s almost 20 years ago. Luckily I’ve added a Kelly & Birkin SO with not much prespend. I won’t play the game just to get a bag, I’d rather go to different brands & spend my money where I feel appreciated

I don't need to try hard and instantly feel in love with their items, such as ready to wear pieces and, of course, their beautiful handbag and leather goods. On the other hand, Hermes' piece, which I need to watch youtube many many times and going to the store and see the items many, many times b4 I fall in love with the items. Hermes is like beauty and the beast situation. 😂 I didn't even think in a million years I am going in this Hermès journey. If someone told me back in 2022 that I would be on the journey. I will laugh at them. For me, SA plays a big part in my journey. I did my big journey with LV between 2019 to 2023. I met my LV SA in 2019 and instantly clicked with him. He got me many hard to get items from LV. He just made me enjoy buying LV. I bought 95 per cent my LV from him. People start their collection with contemporary brand like Coach. But I start my collection with Chanel. Yes, Chanel. 😳 Chanel just so my ecstatic when I was younger. I grow older, and I evolve and LV just so much my style now since I am so casual in my lifestyle. I met my Hermes SA last year, Feb. Instantly click with him. I don't know what about gay men. I get along with gay men. May be I part of the LGBT myself. That why I click with gay people. haha

@@DaylesAddiction my last purchase bag is Coach Tabby 20 in denim Indigo colour that sold out in Australia. For me all brand are equal as long as they well made, stiching are perfectly aligned and Coach definitely made very good quality handbags. 😃

I buy from Hermes because I like the brand but I don’t own a quota bag nor do I have a wish list and I’m not willing to play games but I’m interested to see what happens. Maybe it could set a precedent for other brands if the plaintiffs win and who knows what evidence the they have. From what I’ve heard that will come out later. I’ve actually never been into a Hermes store, all of my purchases have been online and my reasons for that are similar to why you, yourself never tried.
I actually think it’s discriminatory and I don’t care for the tactics so I don’t want to play.
If and when I do try I won’t actually be “trying” because there are plenty of other things that I love that I can spend my money on. Sorry that was a bit all over the place 😂

The truth is the value of the Birkin or Hermes is artificially manipulated and would appear over priced for what it is. In the natural order of an economic market, one does not have to force sell (or tie) other items you sell just to receive an offer of a Birkin or Kelly. Sure this has made the brand super popular and hard to get, but has been artificially manipulated and not a true representation of its value. The issue that comes with manipulating economic markets, the bubble aways comes undone at some point.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the Hermes bubbles pops.
I’m keen to see a shakeup especially if fairness is a result!

The “journey” isn’t for me. No problem with a little arrogance and gaming, but the total lack of transparency was always a turn off for me. Thankfully Hermes aesthetic isn’t my jam, besides the Kelly belt which is easily purchased from the brissy store.
