Smile is one of the best horror movies to accurately portray the fear of mental illness, both from the perspective of those suffering from it and those who don't understand it. Every single aspect of this film perfectly services this central metaphor. Having lived with depression/anxiety most my life, and once attempting suicide, Smile unearthed all my deepest fears and sorrows, making it one of the most terrifying movies I've ever seen. I know not everyone will view this movie the same, and I hope very few do, cause I don't wish my trauma on anyone. I'm glad I was able to channel my past through this movie and see how far I've come since.
"Smile" and "Terrifier 2" were really impressive movies...... i was really shocked at how good they were because, you know, these days, they just don't make good horror movies anymore. But those two movies were awesome. Also, "Barbarian", that was an impressive horror movie, too.
It's my favorite horror movie of the year. Took me by surprise as it was just a random recommendation from my brother. Yeah it's not ground breaking but it's a very solid horror movie and I'd love to see more.
speaking of physical media and steelbooks, wanted the smile but actually picked up an all halloween franchise haul yesterday. Got the cool david gordon green steelbook collection along with the new H20 release, very excited for both!!!!!
For me, there's a real J-horror feel to the film from the look, music, camerawork and tone. While there's a lot of good stuff in Smile, it falls down in the last act. The monster reveal is poor. It looks like a guy in a rubber suit in a scaled down set. But this highlights a bigger problem and that so many recent horror movies are a falling down on the monster. Filmmakers seem a little lost on what they want their boogieman to be. Smile and Barbarian and a couple of others have gone with skeletal dude in a rubber suit and it blows all the good work done previously. They're better off not showing it and leaving it to our imagination.
Why do you guys and basically everyone else care so much about 4k? It barely looks any better than 1080p on a decent 14 year old PLASMA screen TV by Philips or Panasonic. It seems like the industry is simply playing catch up after environmentalists basically had the production of plasma screens outlawed in 2011. HDR? Plasma screens had it as standard due to the lighting methods behind the screen.
I appreciate the fact that you all like this movie but I hate this movie so much. I hate “horror” movies when the creature, demon, spirit etc isn’t real. That makes me feel like what I watched wasn’t necessary. It follows, smile, the vigil, the babadook, comes to mind. I hate blatant metaphor horror movies.

This comment makes me want to watch this again.
💯👍. I was in tears in the picture house watching this film on my own. 😢
It reminded me of Fallen towards the end. Plus, a giant Marilyn Manson shows up.
Underrated comment😂
It was a little more like It Follows with style.

Smile and Barbarian were big surprises...especially Barbarian.
I swear this movie blew me away. I've watched it twice now and just as good the 2nd time. Best horror movie in a long time.

The 3rd act may have been off, but it did make me grin.

I would say " by storm " it was new but with a genetic 3rd act in the movie like every horror movie that came along
I hated how they manifested it into a physical being
It was a good idea, the film drops the ball in the 3rd act and it becomes a suedo creature feature, meh.
💯 true
It Smiles.
