It's like a combo of "Basket Case", "Drop Dead Fred"???&"the Dark Half", "Malignant" is batsh-t crazy in the best way, i wasn't hyped before watching, but ended up enjoying the hell out of it after watching it.
I think my initial issue as that this got “marketed” as somewhat serious horror…. Then I went to the cinema and I was like….. WTF is this!…. Eventually liked it just fine….
the entire plot of Maligntant is great. it copies the same exact thing of the secret doctors at a secret medical mansion building just like in the old Basket Case movie and I love it
My first impressions going into this movie, based on the trailers, was going to a serial killer who shares a psychic link with one of his victims kind of movie like Eyes of Laura Mars or Blink. The homages to 70’s thrillers and Italian horror makes this the closest thing to a modern day Brian DePalma film.
It's fun as hell. That jail fight is 🤣🤣🤣 I honestly thought the film would be flashbacks based off the trailers, like the main character would flashback to things she didn't realize she did. What it ended up being was so much better Great score too
Good to see you all back on a video. I went into this film blind (try to do that nowadays with films) and to be honest on the first watch I stopped the film as I couldn't get into it. On the next attempt I was all in and when it starts to go bonkers it's a blast. It is a silly film, I do lean towards what Lance and Tyler were saying. That doesn't take away that the film knows what it wants to be and leans into it. It is a bit schlock but there is serious horror elements. Definitely better on multiple viewings. You can't call The Conjuring 2 a bad film, no way! The care and detail that went into the recreation of the true aspects of that film were brilliant. Yeah, lots of liberties taken at the end but go and look at the real footage vs the film. Watched it last Friday actually as the house mate had not seen it. Anyway, Solid 7 for Malignant. John - going finding your film to watch this week. Looking forward to it.
Great show guys🎃🎃🎃 about to rewatch this film, since it came out and i thought it was so fun and unique.. the kills were great… thanks for covering this underrated horror gem imo.. 8/10 it surprised the fuck outta me 😂..
I LOVED this film from the first 5 minutes it was on. I kept seeing reviews saying "don't like it! It's cheesy and way too much!" And if you know you know! It's supposed to be "too much"! Such a fun horror movie!
Gabriel has access to the part of the brain we don't yet know what it's capable of. Scientists have always attributed "powers" to our unused brain power. That's just a personal guess.
I wouldn't say that this film is so much an American Giallo, as much as it is clearly a Dario Argento homage - especially his later 80's run. You have all his hallmarks in it: The leather gloved, facially obscured killer; the twist that reveals some physical deformity and ties back into some childhood trauma; the Gothic architecture; the supernatural elements (like in Phenomena); and even a lot of the "WTF" elements and camera angles are clearly Argento inspired. As for the supposed intent behind this film and whether the tone was deliberate? You know, I'm not so convinced. I'm not totally sold that Wan intended for the film to come out the way it did. The only reason I say this is because of how the film was put together. From what I understand, the idea for this film was brought to Wan by his wife, Ingrid Bisu. They then developed the story together and hired Akela Cooper to script it. Bisu is mostly an actress however; and she's actually in the film - she plays that one police forensic scientist who always seems out of place. So I can easily imagine a scenario where Wan was compelled to go all "A happy wife is a happy life". And admittedly, the core idea behind the film is really cool and unique, so it would have been easy for him to buy into it initially. But depending on what his wife was going for, it could have clouded his judgement as to the rest of the film. I dunno. I do think that he might've realized the mess he was in during the edit, and then salvaged what he could. But it would explain why the film comes across as schizophrenic, and not always intentionally so. I don't think he was necessarily intending to make a parody film, like this film finally comes off as being. I also don't think it fair to say that the film "bombed". I mean yes, I guess it did in the objective sense, but it came out during peak COVID and was dumped on HBO MAX during that whole day and date release strategy that Warner Bros was doing at the time. It wasn't a conventional release and the final BO was hurt as a result.
I only saw this movie 1 time and i liked it, i think its time for a re-watch! Damn John by looking at your tshirt, i didn't know you liked that kinda of stuff... a MAN's gotta RELAX!! Is Lance gonna dress up has Nosferatu on halloween, cause does nails are getting LONG!! I watch Bodies Bodies Bodies last night, it was ok but i gotta admit the "twist" ending was pretty good and unique, à la April Fools Day..... and yes they did go in space in that moronic FF movie and it was in a 1st gen Fiero!!!???.... the car caught fire on the street, so they decided to turn it into a spaceship.... yeah thats logical!?
What James Wan did in fast 7 with Paul Walker dieing half way through production is amazing though and deserves a watch just for that... I hate that fast franchise btw
@santos8468 yea I forgot to say it was also Wans first big action film movie, it is probably the only one I would watch again. And I would like to see the guys cover it, or even just Tyler or Lance do a small break down
I hated this movie on my only watch, mainly because the main actress was awful, the csi woman (Wan’s wife, which I didn’t know at the time) was very forced and was a pointless character, and the cops partner was just annoying. I’m going to watch it again, knowing what I know, and see if I enjoy it this time. 🤞
James Wann created a cinematic horror universe and a billion dollar dceu film. He deserves a gory treat. The jailhouse blood bath was hilariously fun.

Loved this when I first saw it last year. Time for a rewatch!
I hope your film does well, John. I'll be checking it out this week for sure.
Thanks buddy!
Yes! The Cronenberg/Argento/Blade mashup we didn't now we needed.

I hope you enjoy Malicious! - John
I love this film. I'm glad to finally hear from other fans of this film. It's always reminded me of a Grindhouse film.
Is Malicious going to get a DVD release in the UK please as I don't do streaming 😊🐾💜👍
I want a DVD/BR copy of your movie Mr. Fallon
The distributor only put out a DVD, which you can get here! www.amazon.com/Malicious-DVD-John-Fallon/dp/B0CFYPF8PC/
Based on this episode of the AITH show I'll be giving Malignant a spin tonight! :)
Not seen it.
Great review as always guys 😊🐾👋💜

very good movie, one of the best in recent years ❤❤ 9/10
James just wanted to make his own Frank Henenlotter film
EXACTLY!
I thought it was fun. Totally bonkers though. I actually really love Dead Silence. I don’t think that gets enough respect.

Awesome 😎 thanks brother!!🙏
Awesome movie. I'm a huge fan of cheese and this was a premium slice.

Johns t-shirt is on brand 💪
Almost like dark man , shocker, the woods movie by craven
Love this fucking movie! It’s actually my favourite Wan film. It’s not scary but it didn’t need to be. It was a perfectly campy film time!

Another great video! A people, go watch Malicious! You'll be pleasantly surprised! :D
Haven't seen it.

Furious Seven is one of the better entries in the franchise thanks largely to Wan.

I despise this movie
It's a 7 for me... loved the episode and hope to see you guys back. Cheers🧋
