I was born and raised on Maui, and was raised listening to Keali'i Reichel and bruddah Iz. I can't wait to go back, and it still breaks my heart to think about the islands.
When I heard this song from Babe with the mice, I started singing it to my chickens. I sing to all my pets now. (That would be 2 cats, 2 kittens, 1 dog, 1000 fish, and 8 chickens.) :)
Heh, I live out in the country, so sometimes you find abandoned strays or wild cats. I found a poor little tortoise shell kitten under my car one day, poor thing. Her mother was no where in sight, and it was pouring, so I took her in. I noticed the poor thing was a little... sad. She lost her ma, shivering, and soaked. After drying her off and warming her up, I did something for the little thing. I pulled out one of my old story books and read her 'The little prince'. Passed right out on my lap. She was... nice. That kitten brought out a nicer side in me I thought I didn't have. I still read that book, just for her.
A lot of people have stories like that. Mine's a little different. One of my cats is Forrester. If you check my channel, I've created a series about him. Most of it is fiction but based off my real cat. We found him at a flower shop up in the mountains, when we were getting our Christmas Tree. The flower shop caretaker told us that she found him out on the streets (a little like your tortoise shell cat) and that he had been abandoned. Since there were so many other cats in the place that she had also rescued, it was hard for her to take care of him. So we brought him home and he has grown ever so strong since then. :)
I so miss Hawaii. I lived there for four years and felt like it was my home. For such a haole girl, my heart belongs to Hawaii. I live in Ohio, and it sucks. For two states with so many vowels, I pick Hawaii. lol
Fabulous song, fabulous job Keali'i. Why not. Hawaiians have always taken the best from other cultures and made it their own - why not a French classic and a movie theme? If anybody can do it, a Hawaiian can. And Keali'i just did! Nani makamae. Mahalo nui loa.
I wish I had the right words for you on Hanalei Sure looks like Hanalei. We would be wrapped in each other's arms and omg it would b heaven on earth. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 you will be ok and safe because we have some living to do yet🍯🐝
@lephong but Keali'i Reichel is one of the greatest Hawaiian musicians, hula dancer and teacher of original Hawaiian language, alivening their beautiful culture - Listen to his other songs :-)
@kuuipo100 Was born and raised on Oahu, but I've never missed it since I left. Maybe I would if I lived in Ohio, though. Never really cared for Keali'i Reichel either, but I was surprised when I found out he did a cover of this and I had to listen to it.
As ones who live in Hawaii, this song goes out to those of Lahaina who have been changed forever by the fires

My parents would sing this to me when i was trying to sleep, when I first watched Babe (recently) I was overcome with goosebumps and nostalgia!!!!
I would like to delicately suggest that they were Godbumps, and the nostalgia was the sad-happy-ecstatic-melancholy provided by the Holy Spirit...
Yes! I found it in an old box of movies along with a VCR and I watched it instantly. God, childhood I miss thee..
This is a wonderfully colorful and spirited version of a beautiful song ... and the pictures of the paradise that is Hawaii transcends to the sublime!

I wish he had stuck to how he began throughout the song
I agree, I don't care for the reggae beat here
@felixrex20021 i don't think that they think the song's of hawaiian origin. they just associate it with the image of hawaii.
I know haha
Watching the classic Disney movies is the best :D
BE THANKS TO OUR GOD LORD JESUS CHRIST, WE BORN THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD, MUST BELONGS TO OUR GOD NOT WORLD...
does anyone know the Hawaiian lyrics? i can only find one line:
"Aloha oe e ku'u ipo"
Dedicated to my Chinese lady.

@kuuipo100 Could be worse- I live in Birmingham
Christ brightens the dead to life as the moon shines as the Son.
You got it, my friend!
This is the most awful cheap keyboard version of a really beautiful song, sorry to say.
Go listen to Beethovan or some classical music 😆 these are Hawaiians and Polynesians 💪🏽 deeply rooted in our island beats, sound, and culture.
