During my ten plus years of owning a Kwik Lift car ramp, I can assure it is one of my most prized tools. When not in use, I merely park my car on it. Garage space is limited. I highly recommend this.
Dude, I have to agree, I can't see how i lived without it all my life, I ended up buying Powerbuilt 640912 for the cross member, and planning to buy a good aircompressor 21gal+ at harbor freight, and a 2-3 airbag jack to quikly raise the side of the car if need brake or wheel job done. Did you get any useful stuff for it?
Thank you for the video, I have very same lift and will NEVER get rid of it, that is how good it is. People that post dumb comments like "waste of time, make no sense, you can do the same on $20 car ramps" - well, they have NO clue.
When my father built an attached garage to the house, he dug a pit down the middle. He could just drive the car into the garage & then go down a ladder to get underneath the car. He also had a door to the basement to get into the pit. Don't tell anyone, because it is not within city code or covered by insurance.
Thanks for sharing about the install. I didn’t even know this thing existed until recently and am now considering one for work on my Mustangs. Seems a lot better than using a jack and jack stands over and over.
This is an informative, excellent video Eugene, thanks for making it. It is one of the reasons I jumped at the chance to purchase an excellent condition Kwik-Lift today for $700 including a full set of casters, center bridge, a 2 1/4 ton floor jack and some large, heavy metal drive-up wedges that are the full width of the ramps. After using ramps and jack stands for over 35 years, I now have just what I need to perform basic to moderate difficulty under-vehicle service a lot easier than before.
with those cross pieces you can get a magnetic strip or 2, attach it to the bottoms and if you are under the car you can stick your tools above you so you can see them and grab what you need, as you need them. If you are changing oil stick the drain plug to it very easy to find when you need to. You could also stick parts trays to them and have a place for nuts and bolts. oil wipes can go on top or other rags.
You could have spent a few hundred dollars more and bought a Quickjack. Costco puts them on sale quite often which makes it a much better option than having those two crazy long car ramps occupying garage space 24/7.
that's really smart. Now you can sell the two floor jacks you used to build the giant ramps. And you can drive up the ramp every day when getting home from work, that'll be a hoot
yeah I drive up on these every day i come from work, no big deal, but oil changes take 5 minutes now, no need to raise anything just reach down under unscrew a bolt, and you are done.
nice video much appreciated..a few questions..where did you purchase the ramp for $800.00 ?..where did you purchase the mat for $200.00...are those delivered prices to your home ?..thank you
Very nice car lift. There is one drawback to letting people use it. If they get hurt you are liable for their injuries. It's a nice gesture to rent it or let people use but please be aware of the liability.
Yeah you right, I decided not to go forward with that, but if anybody needs to see a lift in action or before they would buy one they could stop by and take a look
Actually, you might be surprised with how much those rods can support in that sort of use even if they were not just for keeping things from moving around. Back in my day, it was common to weld up your first set of jack stands for a car out of two pieces of pipe in which one would slide snugly inside the other and to drill holes though it so that a 3/8" pin could be used for adjustments. A 3/8" piece of round bar stock is going to have an ultimate strength of around 5875 lbs, but that can be doubled since the weight is being distributed on both sides of the piece of pipe. Safe working load would be less though, depending upon what safety factor you felt comfortable with. Of course, it's going to also depend upon the side pieces on the front pieces of your lift. If they are thin, it would allow them to cut into the cross rod more than if they were thick.
If you can’t afford $800 for these ramps, you could build some from 2x12’s or 2x14’s or 2x16’s with supports every 3-4 feet depending on how heavy of a vehicle you will drive onto it. Wood ramps will be heavier but probably could be built for under $200. Just be careful.
It looks good for repairs that dont require you to move the wheels or take them off. A lot of repairs like brakes, wheel bearings, tie rods, ball joints, etc would be pretty hard with this sort of lift.
yes I have to agree with that, done brakes, and this lift is definitely not for brake jobs, I did overhall the suspension on bmw using this lift, it was very useful put the cross bar in between and a jack stand with jack in the middle, but for brake jobs forget it, this is not made for this.
@@surfbeetle1967 yes I had this lift and it was fine for oil changes but tire rotations and brake work. You need the traction strips in order to drive up the ramps. Kwik Jack seems to be the better solution now.
@@waynebeck7801 for tire rotations, I just use my floor jacks, lift up one side, then lift up the other. For Brake work, I have the cross pieces and I have bottle jacks to lift the car up, works fine and I'm not laying on the ground. My cars are very low to the ground and this makes it easier to work on. For my trucks, I just use jack stands in the driveway for brake work.
Great video! Really like these. Right after viewing your video I went to Kwik Lift, and I did not see the model you have for sale. Not just that yours are blue, but they have that curve to them. But most important is - the cheapest (of three that they seem to be selling) "kwik lift", was $1,399 Can you share where you got yours (for $800)?
Excellent idea!! But this would work better if it was built into the floor of the garage for the DIY home mech. Still this is an excellent idea, pricey but still great!
Not really, theyre out of the way for alot of stuff. Theyre high enough to drop a transmission for a clutch or to replace and if you wanna do brakes, use a bottle jack to jack each side up or the center bars.
Rudpavv Rudpavv I saw another video where this lady put one together and had a 2014 convertable SS camaro. So between that and the BMW in this video it safely can hold 4500lbs cars.
It is pretty thick, and heavy duty, my lexus gx470 is parked on it every night, it is rated at 5000lb, but I am sure you can go much higher because when the car is at an angle most of the weight goes towards the rear 2 ramps that seat on the ground
This makes no sense, why pay upwards of $2000 to still roll around under your car on your back, when a 4 post can be purchased for $2200, and double the parking as well?
Dude! For that price of renting your lift or garage I would have been a frequent flier. Too bad I'm 800 miles away from you. :D Sharp looking car, BTW. What are you replacing it with?
I have a mercedes clk550 AMG, 5.5L is a great car, I got it with 2k miles, now it has 22k miles. And I am replacing the gx470 with a 2015 toyota 4runner. The bmw got sold in a heart beat.
yes, and no: got the 2 in one jack/stand from pep boys, a perfect fit for cross member, and it lifts up the whole front or just one side if needed in no time. But you are correct, I am looking into a double or triple AIR jack to be showed onto the ramp and to raise the front or the rear or the side in no time, but for that I need a much bigger compressor which I will get sooner or later. And that expedite any suspension work 100x times. So the perfect combination is 1) kwik lift 2) 179$ jack (daytona) in the back to raise the rear if needed (could be fine without it) but I needed the car to be level it to fill up the transmission on my mercedes there is no dip stick. 3) a double or triple bag air jack for $180-250$ and 4) a $160+ at least 21gal compressor from harbor freight. So all and all I would be happy if I would have all 4, but for now just 1 and 2. and managing with what I got
Hats to you sir, i comme hear to look a a quick lift, and you are trying to sell me a car. That's business at its finest. couldn't have done it better myself. lol
Problem why you spend your weekends working on your cars is because you drive BMW . When you drive a Lexus your weekends are free for family time and enjoyment. Seem like you're a car flipper too
Anson L thanks for your response. I agree about the cost for a lift but it will not fit in this garage. For maintaining 5 cars in the cold weather, the plastic will deteriorate. If you opt for ramps, get steel ones that are like the plastic ones. Thanks again.

Sure you can. Thats what the center supports are for. Jack up the front just like you normally would. The only difference is you 20 inches higher. You can sit on a seat to do the brake job.
I totally agree with you, but I prefer something safer to be under, plus with the rear wheel drive cars I can't get onto these ramps easily, plus you can get them from me for $20 as they are useless to me at this time

Looks like a good idea fella for a lift. Since the low ceiling is fixed making anything for a lift is a challenge.

I put a piece of 2X4 - 6 inches long, works perfect.
I move my lift outside sometimes in the summer by putting a wood furniture dolly from harbor Freight under each end and rolling it out of the shop.
I see ur in IL....me too. They raise the taxes any more I'm leaving!!

Yeah, now that I use it more often i see that they do a big part of stabilization.
center supports are probably for some kind of jack to lift the car above the ramps so you can do brakes and suspension work.
yes center supports I put a jack and a stand in one Powerbuilt 640912
That’s a great deal on the rental. I don’t live near there though but I would use it if I did.
I have one since 2000 , Great Item. (RED)

OH wow you rent out! Outstanding!
Thumbs up for family members. I think I would have bought QuickJacks instead because of the ability to work on brakes, steering, rotors, etc.

Where are you located? I am in Mt. Prospect, and would like to rent some time on that lift when the weather is bad.

yeah but, here in U.S. it is not possible to get a permit to get a hole in the ground of your garage
Not enough elevation to warrant the bother; plus the ramps are in the way and interfere for some chores.

Thanks for the good expose on the product.
Where do you find this for $800 with shipping?
Are you still renting the lift on the weekends?
Where did you get it for $800. Their website wants $1400 or $1100 depending on options.
Also curious...
Oh thanks for pointing that out.
yeah, I had to put even more tape, on small ramps and the entire surface, because when I stand on it I don't want to fall if it is a rainy day.
Yeah I see bunch of used ones on craigslist all the time.
I decided against this because it becomes a permanent fixture and I only have room to pull in one car at a time.
Hi
Where can I buy it?
How much will this lift hold?
Ou peut on le commander ??
Do u have a link to this ?
the crossmembers are for jack stands when you remove the wheels...
@@eddherring4972 you can go to their factory website and that's how they use them

Great info - thanks Bro
Great vid I will admit .but the prices your charging for old bmws and Lexus is way off the mark.

As of April 2023, this lift is no longer for sale due to the cost of steel.
Do you have any F-350 super duty’s

Very nice!
so the whole weight of the car down on the sides of those flimsy fronts ? .. comon :D ..
I put it together Myself.
How you will change your tiers ?
Yeah this one is not for brakes or tires, I would need a good air compressor and a 2 or 3 bag air jack.
