My grandfather was killed when using 4 bumper jacks to lift a car while he replaced the exhaust system for $5.00 labor.
Jacking a car is serious business.
Any kind of jack that has cylinders, threads and so on should never used to work under the car, it has to by solid objects.
I have had to use bumper jacks quite a few times. Even on the expressway very sketchy .
8:28 is so nice in my opinion lots of option on that i think you can even use it on the frame as well
I miss the wooden ramps my father built. They were to stay in the garage when not in use but I had to put them outside for the house/garage to be worked on and never got to put them back in and they rotted away. Time flies when you become busy with life but I am still upset about not putting those nice ramps he built by hand and I'll never forgive myself.
if or when you do you will ask yourself why you didnt do it sooner
Yeah man, those are ridiculously easy to build. Stack wood. Use good screws. Done.
forgive yourself its ok
Do you have photos of his wooden ramp?
My dad made some the were great, you could parked a tank on them. The only problem was they weighed a ton.
I worked in many gas stations where jacking up a car onto floor jacks by hand was standard operating procedure, in one place we had 12 bays and only 2 floor lifts that were kept open for quick oil changes. The rest were all on floor jacks. Many of the older center post lifts don’t allow access to the central area under the car, which is where the mechanical parts of the car are located.
What do you mean ? The only thing in the middle of a car is the exhaust system
@@iamasmurf1122 Oh really? Where is a transmission usually, or a drive shaft?
Cheap jack stands and jacks always worked for me. Have done plenty of engine and transmission swaps with them. Recently converted my 99 Audi A4 Quattro from an auto to manual transmission using jack stands.
jack stands work well for me too, but i always add a security pile of rims under the frame bruh.
Tryna drop the tranny on my E92 all I got are jack stands any suggestions?
Also did a manual swap on my 2003 volvo with jackstands
We were just sitting at the shop having lunch when the Jack stands just dropped the car they been there about a couple of days and they just fell for no reason luckily no one was under the car wtf don't just trust anything when it comes to your life use safety overkill!
@@ihopmta772 yup, just do it.
6:20 The type of ingenuity that makes sense. Got in position in 5 secs and not many parts to build.
I would never rely on the strength of a bottle jack. I made 4 / 4x4 hardwood blocks. Each block had 8 blocks. Safe as hell
The Pyramids were built using wood blocking. Still used today to lift massive machinery and move houses. Just takes time, but very safe if you know what you're doing!
4:28 ? Wtf is that ? Take ramps off .. Put back on.. Dumb as hell
You should never trust any jack to hold a car. Seals can fail suddenly. Even slow leaks can lower the car on top of you, and you dont even notice until its too late.
Next up. Best homemade tombstones.
boo
@@vdubskiee5356 I make them on the side if you want one.
Conveniently, they come with hood ornaments.
Felicidades.Ideas magníficas.muy útiles y económicas de hacer.Saludos desde México.
I buy and sell a lot of cars, so I bit the bullet and spent a grand on a used two poster for my backyard. With proper maintenance, it has lasted ten years so far.
The one at the 2:23 Mark that is made out of wood if you use the right lumber and do this correctly this is actually a realistic affordable easy way to get your car lifted on your own property
Take the ones at 8:30 put a small ramp on each one to drive up onto with a small airbag in each, hook a common air line to each and lift whole car at the same time by opening a valve.
I made drive up ramps using wood blocking front and rear wheels. Having the wheels sitting on solid wood stacks (no daylight between the layers) is about the safest you can be.
Loved the pit in the first sequence. Old school
I built wood ramps with 2x12s. The only ramps I trust my life with. I'm sure they could hold up a house. Otherwise, it's jack stands with locking pins.
I use ramps, + stands + wheels + jack(x2) + bricks. Lol..
My backups have backups.. I figured if all of them fail.. then it was my time to go.
@@dnegel9546 it would take more time to put in take out all that crap than a simple oil change. Lol
@@cobre7717 The oil change is just an excuse to do all the other stuff. The fun and ingenuity come with getting ready to do that simple task!
Every time I see a home built car lift, I am soo happy that I invested in a Challenger CL9.
The atrocious welding on some of these so call car lifts are death traps, some good ideas, but scary, they're dealing with a lot of dead weight and not enough safety.
The second one looked like some kind of a magic trick.
Some crazy ass hillbilly builds
Always have 2 things holding the car up. A couple of old rims, a couple more jack stands, some tire cribs under the frame, whatever will stop a car from crushing you. If one thing fails, it is better to crap your pants from being scared than from being crushed.
Nice cake decorating!!!
Yes! I like this video.
Soooo many ways to die🤣 I admire ingenuity and creativity, and yes some products you can buy are also sketchy. But I would rather trust my life to tried and tested products just personal opinion 😉
facts
Fact
how do you think it got to that point
How do you think these products came to be? It was a person with an idea. They made it, they tried it, and tested it over, and over. You have to know how to weld descent and know a little about metal but it's not hard to learn these things.
@@anonymous4507 there's a lot more to it than just being able to weld what about known tensile strengths of hardware? Stress testing the metal being used knowing your welds have penetrated sufficiently? As I said I admire the ingenuity not once have a do e any of these creations down, some are very clever. But when your holding a car up you need to 100% know that it's either going to hold up or not tip over. And yes there's many off the shelf products that are not up to the job they're intended for.
Спасибо за видео! Подметил для себя интересные решения.
All these require for vehicle to move under its own power...the teeter needs a cable pulley system...floor jack and jack stands take up less room..would be a great addition to a shop with extra room..
There's a few good ideas here, but the most important thing that everyone forgot was a way to remove the wheels. You have to lift by the frame and not the wheels.
I think the idea with these are to work under the car. Sometimes you need to lift by the wheels only because frame is so rusted it can't even hold jack stands.
That's only if you want to remove the wheels. Changing ATF, oil, coolant parts etc all require the car to be level while you are working under it, and none require the wheels to be removed
wrong. there are no good ideas here.
@@XX-xv6xe good ideas if you want to file a life insurance claim for your spouse
@@XX-xv6xe backwoods engineering with 2 tons of iron on a frame made with a $100 fluxcore welder spitting out bubble gum beads.
When I saw the thumbnail and read the caption, I thought, "Get my Z. down off that contraption!"
jackstands for safety and a tire for insurance
Thanks for your video
10 people died in the making of this video.
Some pretty crzy ideas. Wouldn't catch me using any of them.
That first jack, hell no.
Just slap some paint on it and it will restore your confidence!
Здравствуйте я 1000 -ый подписчик!
2:22 damn that's the coolest and most ridiculous feat of DIY I've seen for car stuff so far xD and did we really just put 20 percent of this entire videos time up for basic metal grate ramps (3:20)?
I like the one at 8:55. Can you buy something like these premade?
those 'SeeSaw' lifts.... jeez. Then again, I removed a transmission out of a 76 Ford GranTorino... on cinderblocks, the car was 2 feet off the ground-- I was young, I wouldn't even think of doing that now. Somehow I lived to post this comment.
I'm sure they cut the video on the second jack contraption before we all watched that car fall into the hole on it's side. That looked crazy to me. No way I'd put anything of value up on that lift.
Most of these look like I had welded them together. If I want to be crushed to death I’ll just buy a round of drinks for the next Krispy Creme Girls Night Out.
Love the music the best part of this video...who are they?
This guy is a genius
problem! to repair, you need to remove the wheels usually
Guys please don't do any of this. Be safe above all. As a teenager I had a close call doing this. Learned my lesson. Be safe. Be smart. There will be another day.
Here, hold my beer. Hey ya'll, watch this.
Good work
Am I the only person to use my left foot on the brake (Automatics).. Hold the throttle steady and control the movement with the brake... It's a learned skill........ but that's the problem... I guess next useless electronic addition will be a "creep mode"..
Я бы не полез под автомобиль, надо дополнительно страховать, ставить кирпичи или еще что-то
Just scrapped my steel ramps. They just skate along the drive when I try driving up em.
8:35 this one should have a ramp like this one 4:14
One should put the jack under the vehicle for best results!
the one @ 9min is the best idea
Solidly built, but I'd like to see the locking pins go all the way through the posts. Doesn't appear to do that.
That trailer kinda good idea .... But you rely on balance.
I'm considering looking how to build the first hydraulic lift. Very cool idea
Just buy one. They're $120.
Don't build one.. that thing is literally a death waiting to happen.
Just buy one.
I can't find a name of the lift that has the ability to lift like the first Homemade project is.
@@timothytucker76 but why do you even need to lift a car that way?
What is wrong with a standard jack?
@@dnegel9546 because when you live in the rustbelt. The salt destroy your unibody to the point where you need a 4 foot piece of cedar plank to ever so gingerly lift your decrepit shitbox up in the air
Beats the 45 gallon drum.
"Thats gonna be a no from be dawg"
If we used four of those under the car body above frame then connect to half air half hydraulic reservoirs then run onwheel hydraulic motor then the car drive forever or generate electricity too
What ?
0:23 I think your left rear tire needs some air.
Some of these were dodgy
the 8:10 looks really interesting!!
the music has to go
Definitely, the music must go!!
WOOD is even crazier than concrete blocks
Wood is very strong and reliable. I drive a 74000kg mobile crane and we use wood under the out riggers all the time to bring down ground bearing pressures.
Such great ideas, But pleeeeaase get rid of the back ground music
State of the welding on that first one, no fkin chance
Theres a Lada 110 in the background, that explains everything.
Those welds are 60% perfect
It will hold 💎✋
Jack, hoist ok . Best goes on when not running .
To y
theses homemade lifts will get you kill
most of these people are dead today. Definitely the first and last guy.
Lol
6:43 this one! 👌
AKA: The Best Of The Widowmakers
The only one i would consider getting under a car would be at the 7:40 mark
All the systems that works elevating from the wheels don't work to make a job, because today's car with front transmission is necessary to remove the wheel for do the job. a second sistem for elevate is necesary.
Just as easy to jack up one end and put jack stands under then do the other end. Same clearance.
I want to lift my car to the moon!
Second Guy Already has a pit. Dig it Deeper
I don't think I'd chance getting under the one made out of upside-down roof trusses.
That's the safest one in the whole lot. Place 4 steel point jack stands at the frame and this is by far the best, cheapest and safest way to lift ur car. The downfall is storage.
I liked that one, make it out of angle iron, would be great.
And how do you even change anything without pulling out the wheels
06:00 is a boldtrick !
I would not get under ANY of these vehicles unless I had at least TWO jack stands underneath. Garage For Dummies.
- 8:31 is the only one that looks even remotely safe. I wouldn't get anywhere near any of the others.
i wouldn't go under that as well, under nothing non professionally tested with proper machinery and certified except maybe a concrete ramp
Maybe rename this video in "Newest Russian inventions"?
nice
6:43 Quién logró esto, es un buenazo. Felicidades.
9:00 mark OK... Rest crazy...
Homemade car lift jacks. - Do not try it at home ! U can try it but don`t touch ;)
Do not try it at home ? Yeaaa. Try it in garage!
Ever hear of jack stands.
Never, ever, ever depend on a hydraulic device to be your fail safe safety barrier. C'mon now.
10:45 It looks like a black Labrador Retriever driving
Minute 6:15 ! Worth the time.
I didn't understand why don't they just make it work on jacking points instead on the wheels only
Raising a car like this with DIY jacks can be destructive and dangerous. Be really careful! Better not to do it and stick to proven ways of things

At about 10 minutes yet more uses for old palates
Spelling Doctor at your service…! You want to say “pallets,” as the other “palate” is the roof of your mouth, which is pretty funny to think of reusing old ones LOL
Nowadays they misspell “to,” so you’re a cut above most people :). Peace
Where do I buy the things at @8:30
does anyone know what those things are called under the tire at 8:43
Very dangerous occupation unless a fully quilified steel structural engineer.
Most of the designs are really not necessary, just use a normal hydraulic jack and stands and you're done.
8:30 I need this.
