Just finished my ‘13 QX56 165k miles - in my garage Replaced all 4 cats and sensors Rear Cats are only $100/ pair. Why not while you are under there??? New ones don’t come with heat shields!!! Why ride bareback? Reuse the old ones! Front cat shields are tack welded in place but easy to cut and reuse. Rear cats have clamps - Just cut off the old bolts and replace with M6x24 bolts/nuts/washers Tip 1 - Soak bolts overnight if possible Tip 2 - Don’t panic if you strip or snap off a frozen manifold heat shield bolt. I had 3. Just chisel the shield around the bolt to free it. Add a washer for the reinstall Tip 3- borrow your neighbors 1 ton electric winch to ease out the manifold heat shields- Yeah- Just do it - or if your neighbor doesn’t have one - drag him over to help with the tug of war Tip 4- Manifold nuts The angles to get at these are a little tuff so make sure your socket is squared up. Don’t want to add 5 hrs to the project fishing for a rounded off nut that you really can’t get to!!! Tip 5- Remove all studs with an E-10 socket It will make your life a lot easier on the reinstall Especially if your part isn’t exactly to spec. My bank 1 setup was hitting the frame below and I couldn’t get studs back in as easily as I should have been able to and couldn’t get the heat shield back on without trimming around that area Tip 6-Try to buy all cats from 1 supplier to avoid flange alignment issues like I had Had to cut and reweld both rear flanges to get them to bolt up Summary I’m a 62 yr old Jack of a lot of trades but master of only a few. NOT a professional mechanic I survived this long running on common sense and logic. You can do this! It took me a full 2 days by myself - Hit a lot of snags and several “work arounds” were required If you are good with a wrench you may be able to Knock it out in a day if the removal goes ok Good luck!

Update So after 3 days I started getting P420/P430 codes again Exhaust smelled worse than before but not right away. Fuel Trims were good No leaks O2 Sensors are operating fine Reset the computer Since I was a kid dad used to say: When you buy cheap- sometimes you have to buy twice! A painful lesson having to do this job over again. IF YOU BUY CHEAP MAKE SURE YOUR CATS ARE CERTIFIED TO FED STANDARDS Anyway it was a little easier the second time around Finishing up today IMPORTANT TIP Loosen the top two engine mount bolts on both sides with a 19 mm and lots of extensions and cheater bar unless you have a powerful impact ratchet. They are on tight! raise the engine 3/4”-1” Not too high- watch out for the fan hitting the shroud Put a block of wood on the Jack and lift carefully from the oil pan This makes getting the heat shields out and back on a lot easier and there’s plenty of room to install the top studs before mounting manifolds Also cut off the ends of the protruding screws on the lower heat shields attached to the car. Makes sliding the manifold shields up into place easier because they like to catch on these screw ends which are 1/2” too long They were installed topside before vehicle assembly Good luck You can do this

How many sensors are there to buy and did you go with OEM or just made sure they were certified? I think the 93 gas I use on the military base is the problem. It may be 93 but I think it is as cheap as it comes.
@@CH-iz9fv The manifold/cats were about $600 for the pair - Which is only a few $$ more than the first set of cats that didn’t work - while I thought the second set was made in Canada, both sets were made in China. The second set had a brand name of Evan… Something and were certified/approved in most states except Cali and NY etc No issues - No Smell - No Codes Runs like new Remember to disconnect the drive shaft, remove that suspension hydraulic line support framing, pull the steering link and dipstick tube as in the video. I would add another must - loosen the top engine mount bolts and Jack up the engine 3/4” +/- It will make life a lot easier getting the heat shields out and back in again in reasonable shape There is 1 upstream sensor located a few inches behind the rear exhaust port on Cat#1/manifold assembly and 1 downstream at the mid pipe Cat#2 I didn’t use OEM and have no issues with the imports but some people do have trouble with the cheapies
Over on the Titan side a lot of guys replace the flawed exhaust manifolds with long tube headers, catted B-pipes and a tune. I have a 2010 Titan. I have all the parts just need to get it all installed and tuned. Looks like the headers fit your model year. Probably possible on the QX56’s. The headers are around the same price as those aftermarket manifolds. Once the headers are in you don’t have to worry about cracked manifolds again.
I'm not sure if 2010 Titan exhaust parts will work on a 2011 QX56. 2011 was when they went to the new chassis (Nissan Patrol). The Armada didn't change until 2016. The Patrol chassis is a little smaller than the 2010 QX56/Titan chassis. Maybe it would still work. I don't know for sure. Also, although both engines are 5.6L DOHC, their outputs are very different. 305 - 317 hp vs 400 hp. And the 2011+ engine had timing chain and guide issues. The previous gen did not, so is the engine the same? I'm not 100% sure. We've had two first gen Armadas and a Titan. We currently have a 2011 QX56. The engine of our 2011 QX seems a lot smoother than the others. Anyway...

200 on your QX56? I have a 2013 and if I fill up on Base it will get over 350 for full tank. If I fill up at Shell it turns to over 400. That is with me popping 420 and 430 codes.
Hello, I have this code PO430 low efficiency b2 on my 2013 Infiniti Fx37 with check engine light still. Diagnosed by my local mechanic. What do you think about Davico catalytic converters, or should I get those Cateran you bought? Are you having issues with them?
Don't use the dealer because it's not high level mechanic work and they are so expensive. It all depends on the mechanic you use but whoever you talk to make sure you mention that no need to move any of the mounts or drpo the frame. Also mention that there is video to show how to replace them. I would say less than half what the dealer asks is fair.

But if you can and willing a full list would be helpful too. We have the same year make and model truck (and same color). I have been chasing this problem where my vvt solenoids are active at idle, but the service manual tells me they should not be. I have done the timinig chain at least twice now, so I know it is good and tested my solenoids and they are good. So I am just trying to get a good base line for more diagnostic. Also thank you for this video, you guys make that look easy.

2 exhaust manifold catalytic converters, 2 exhaust manifold gaskets, 2 after catalytic round gaskets and the bolts associated with the replacement, not sure how many but its mentioned in the video. I think the pair of cats that i bought came with everything except the exhaust manifold bolts. I was gonna buy them from the dealer. you can buy a couple of them just in case you strip one or 2. You can even call the stealer and put an order ahead of time just to make sure they have them on the shelf if needed when you replace yours.

Cats 2.Buy the PB Blast 3. What was the final length of the O2 Sensor adapter?? 4 . Spare studs and bolts (what stud remover- are they universal?) Lastly let me know if I left anything off!

If you have a set of sockets im sure one of them is gonna fit. I thought i mentioned the aize of the socket we used in the video.

900 for labor and that's cheap for this one. Manual says you have to remove the AC compressor, steering pump and alternator along with the bracket.
My dealer wanted to charge me $7000 to replace my converters on my Infiniti. SMDH!!

How did you get the passenger exhaust cover off??
Passenger was easier than the driver side. You have to pull and bang and bend it.
Did you get it from the bottom though after doing all the bending and banging?
