Bubba would be proud: there's boiled shrimp, lemon shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp sandwich, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp that will break your bones… That's that's about it!
Guys, come on. 1:30 into it and your editing is kinda lackluster -there's not enough time to focus on the shrimp because every time a punch goes off you immediately pan back to the reaction cams. It's disorientating, and a little bit annoying. If you really want the reaction cam, try showing it minimized in a corner whilst keeping the shrimp cam up and maximized, so it's possible to actually focus on it without being like *punch "Wow!" *punch "Amazing :0" I'm not trying to insult you. Whether you take my criticism as valid or not is your choice - my experience may be different to someone else's.
I'd like to point something out. Since comments get flooded that a pistol shrimp would kill a mantis your completely wrong. I've owned several species of Alpheus, Neogonodactylus, Gonodactylaceus, Odontodactylus, and Puesdosquilia. All my Alpheus freely roam in my 125 gallon reef. Numerous times my yellow tang, clownfish, and even the very same scarlet cleaner shrimp shown in the BBC video have been directly shot in the face when they got too close and no ill effects to this day. Pistol shrimp are SCAVENGERS, and they're HARMLESS there has been no evidence of a pistol shrimp killing anything. This snap is used to scared off predators and find mates, not for hunting and killing. The shrimp usually never leaves it's burrow ever and survives of the "Algae" and "Detrius" that grows and appears around their home. BBC is the ONLY source of info that shows a pistol shrimp killing something. BBC has a huge reputation for over dramatizing their work making things seem even more deadly than they really are. If you need video proof there is a video of a mantis shrimp of equal size get shot in the face numerous times and nothing happens.. the mantis eventually kills the pistol shrimp and steals the burrow. Here's my pistol shrimp peacefully living with another fish.. harmless.. infact they're blind and will pair up with certain shrimp gobies and work together.. they're too blind to even aim and hurt anything without the fish. I've been shot by him in the past... nothing. I was laughing at how pathetic the shot was after all the *rumors* out there. I stick my hand in his burrow alot and get shot at and just ignore it. Tiger Pistol Shrimp with Yellow watchman goby. Do they still make the "cavitation bubbles" that reach hotter than the sun? Yes but it has absolutly no effect except to make the loud snapping sound to "scare" away predators and call mates. In summary, my point is a pistol shrimp will NOT kill anything.. a mantis would kill the pistol shrimp hands down.. infact I've seen emerald crabs kill pistol shrimp before.
Omaer Khan Actually very false. We can actively find and collect these animals as pets in shallow water. Not saying that they're aren't any that are found deeper but in summary to the race itself depth doesn't make that big of a difference. They're also very common and you can even see any store that sales saltwater fish selling a real live pistol shrimp. The water pressure theory between damage in an aquarium and damage in the ocean is very logical and makes sense but overall the animal is not ment to kill only to call and defend making it rather useless as a "weapon" If you saw this channel's video on pistol shrimp, even in a home aquarium (or in this case lab) you'll notice the cavitation bubble exploding.. if water pressure was an issue that wouldn't have happened. That species shown in the BBC video is none other than the curly cue pistol shrimp. These species host live curly cue anemones (which bbc failed to record the shrimp being with indicating how set up it was) and these species are yet another common one in the aquarium trade. I'm not exactly sure what the species name is but they often are just called curly cue pistol shrimp, carribean pistol, or red pistol (not to be confused for japanese pistol). They also go by the name "Snapping shrimp" rather than "pistol shrimp" to try to educate public away from the lack of proper knowledge the term "Pistol shrimp" now provides thanx to bbc.. Most people will walk into stores, see a pistol, and freak out like it's the end of the world when they won't harm anything in your tank. Now a mantis shrimp or more properly known as a stomatopod on the other hand is 100% true. Everything you hear about their punch, make light and heat, eyesight, etc is all entirely true. Their aggression varies between individguals but in general they can be killing machines. The only thing that gets confused is how much a stomatopod can see. Even I'm confused with the exact number of colors but often when refering to the punch you'll hear "Hits with the FORCE of a .22" it's not the force it's the ACCELERATION of a .22 which is a common mistake made by everybody.
MirorBeeGaming Like there isn't recorded footage of male pistol shrimps shooting out to the death in a burrow, say they rarely use it to kill, it's a lot more accurate.
MirorBeeGaming not hotter than the sun you ass hotter than the surface which is the coolest part of the sun. Lightning is hotter than the surface of the sun too but not hotter THAN the sun
Thank you for this video. You guys seem to have gotten some really awesome footage of this amazing creature, but much of the video was dedicated to three humans talking instead. Also, at around 1:09 and 1:17, there are reactions to something which seems to be exciting, but I'm not sure what it is. Some picture-in-picture could show reactions along with the animal's actions. I'd love to see that so I wouldn't have to guess. That way, we could react along with you! Looking forward to more!
Woah so much people here because of Google. Dont you guys think this animal is like pokemon? And it has really cool attack too according to this video!
cavitation is not caused by "ripping water molecules apart", but by lowering the atmospheric pressure in the wake of the movement which causes water to reach the boiling point and the result is steam. It occurs in the vortex created by boat propellers too..
I caught one of these fishing once. Had no clue what it was until after. Even held it in my hand. Im lucky I didnt wind up with a broken hand or a large open wound.
Yea I saw a vid about a guy catching one fishing on a kayak, as soon as he pulled it into his kayak he got hit on the ankle and almost immediately blood started to come out on the bullet shaped wound lol
@@bayabooz4855I just saw that and that's why I'm here lol. So yeah, it probably wouldn't do *too* much damage to a human. It could break a small bone i suppose. But I wouldn't expect a large gaping wound.
I just adore stomatopods. Used to have little G. Smithii that sadly passed away last year during a molt. But even those smaller mantises are really awesome animals.
Wikipedia isn't THAT bad of a source. Should you use it as a major reference for a big school paper? No. But you CAN use it for looking up facts. And MCGame is right, Crustaceans are NOT insects, but they're extremely closely related.
These little guys also have 16 color receptors in their eyes and can see several different types of light, including ultraviolet, where as humans only have 3 color receptors.
And the other amazing thing is they punch so fast and hard the the water around the strike hits temps close to the surface of the sun so it not only hit with 100's of G's worth of force in a millisecond but it also cooks what ever it is hitting..
True inspiration for Bruce Lee !Beginning inspirations always come from nature! So if you want to learn to punch hard here is your Ipman in an Dojo Aquarium!!
mantis shrimp because pistol shrimp can't kill any thing because the snap they make just scares stuff never has there been evidence that they could kill any thing. and also there is a video to answer that question. spoiler the mantis shrimp wins
You forgot that they also have the most amazing eyes of any creature in the world. They can even see colors we can't imagine.
+TerkoizMcwizard Polarized light too.
wrong wrong wrong, that is the MANTIS SHRIMP not the pistol shrimp. Pistol Shrimp are nearly blind, actually.
A Very Nice Guy this is about the mantis shrimp lol

1:40 you're looking for this one?
"We would've seen something really amazing if we had zoomed in and tried to show something amazing..... But instead we got this......."
Imagine how much force these could generate if they were like ..the size of a walrus
“woooooowwww that looks great” = hmm not really as cool as I thought it’d be. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
These shrimps have been practicing the mantis style for a very long time!

Sky Lord Panglot Same
Sky Lord Panglot Yup XD
Sky Lord Panglot hey me too!
Woah so much people here because of Google. Dont you guys think this animal is like pokemon? And it has really cool attack too according to this video!
That, is how a Mantis Shrimp do.
How the hell did this shrimp get insane punching ability as well as arguably the best eyesight, able to see around 16 colors?
I think its 16,000 or 160,000. We can even see more than 16 colours
what happens if he decides to hit the aquarium glass
Then you have a broken aquarium and a dead shrimp.
only smaller aquariums will break not bigger ones but its very intelligent..
it won't crack the aquarium once acquainted with it.
just make sure you don't keep it hungry.
Fun fact mantis shrips can see the most colors
I love the Peacock Mantis Shrimp!!! It's so epic!!
"To the mantis shrimp kung fu looks like tai chi"
This is a rare video produced by BBC that is not full of lies... I even liked :)
Apollo Creed approves this crustacean.

In this episode of Slo Mo, Sam and Si try to capture the lightning-fast punch of the peacock mantis shrimp...
I thought that it was not advised to hold them in a glass tank (other than probably bullet proof glass) because their punch is too strong.
That link to the TED talk about mantis shrimp is dynamite!
Wow....Imagine this thumb splitter shrimp punching on your skull. A crack there can be difficult!
Sparshita Nag it wouldn’t crack a skull
I just adore stomatopods.
Used to have little G. Smithii that sadly passed away last year during a molt.

I'm guessing that you're a virgin!
That mantis shrimp can smash the glass of the aquarium you have
Wikipedia isn't THAT bad of a source. Should you use it as a major reference for a big school paper? No. But you CAN use it for looking up facts.
And MCGame is right, Crustaceans are NOT insects, but they're extremely closely related.
Basically, use Wikipedia as a source of sources.
but any one can go in and edit Wikipedia so I tend not to trust it
Terra formar bring me here Keiji Maeda
Now an incredibly graceful creature...
Error 404: Chance of survival from a Mantis Shrimp punch not found
Image chillaxin on the ocean floor just taking pictures of the ocean life and having this thing punch your nuts.
Should try another mantis shrimp with the spears instead of the hammers. Would be really cool
These shrimp are beautiful!
Proof you can do plenty of damage with a small unit
They literally have boxing gloves 🥊🥊
You should made a slow motion video of the Mantis Shrimp punching a Prince Rupert's Drop. That would be certainly astonishing.
That's as quick as a bullet shot!
Yeah, actually it can split someone's skin with its snap.
What would happen if you put 2 mantis shrimps together? Would they fight each other?
They fight, there's a few cool videos about it
The Mantis Shrimp should be a boss for the next Punch-Out game!
I've come up here by watching Terra Formars

Some forms of life deserve a whole lot of leave alone so to speak. These shrimp can have their space.

When your punch sets water on fire, you are undisputed world champion.
What an amazing creature :)
That is how a mantis shrimp do.
terra formars brought me here
Pretty much lol
I learned hell a shit about biology (especially, animals) from terra formars.
This is like the seventh video I watch of a mantis shrimp because of a guy getting hit in the foot by one
And the other amazing thing is they punch so fast and hard the the water around the strike hits temps close to the surface of the sun so it not only hit with 100's of G's worth of force in a millisecond but it also cooks what ever it is hitting..
The video titile should be "humans reacting at mantis punch in slow motion" instead. 🤣
I bet that thing couldn't knock me out

Seeing as the punch is the dangerous part, I highly doubt we'd have to worry about its kicking.
