      Not collective, one created it - likely ancient India (15,000) years ago, and then it travelled around the world.
      History is lost between 13 000 BC - 2500 BC. But there's record of lyres being used 2500 BC (4500 years ago).
      If we had the (human) history from 13 000 BC to 2500 BC our knowledge of the world would be much more rich.

    I have watched so many Chinese themed movies and shows and I was dying to know what this instrument was. I’m so glad I found it, it’s the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard in my life!

      @Mikey Burns how could I not? It was a childhood classic of mine. I had it on VHS and would watch it a lot as a kid! However, what made me really love this instrument along with Chinese style music in general was of course Kung Fu Panda. It was the best movie in the world to me at the time. Still love 1 & 2; 3 not so much...

    Most erhus I've ever heard, I'm always thinking some Chinese woman is singing. In the past I never knew that what I thought was some Chinese woman singing was a simple instrument all along! XD That makes it all the more beautifully ingenious.

    in Betawi culture (Jakarta) we have 3 musical instruments that are the same as this because of the acculturation of Chinese culture in the past but a little different because at the ends we use coconut shells and we call them Tehyan, Kongahyan and Sukong ❤️

    Such an elegant sound yet a simple looking instrument from a place I did not even think about. Chinese traditional music might just become my favorite after listening to this ERHU. BTW : To those who didn’t know, this song is called jasmine flower.

    Magnificent! I've always loved the sound of the erhu, and while it can go well with other instruments, I've always preferred it solo. One of the things that pisses me off about erhu videos on UA-cam is that most get mixed up with other (usually Western) instruments. A video that presents erhu, and only erhu, is a rare treat.

    I have found a similar type of Musical instrument in almost every tribe or community that belongs to more Asian type of descendence..just like Erhu..Bodos living in Assam,India who migrated from Mongolia and Tibet in past (I belong in that tribe) have an Instrument named Serja.. although its almost similar in shape to a violin it's sound is almost similar to Erhu

    Where could I buy a book with these lovely melodies?
