A really nice job there you made it look so easy and what can be achieved with the proper materials I have watched people in the US doing this and they seem to have a hard time doing it possibly the chemicals they use but again well done

I've done some forced patinas but they leave a cool pattern, why strip a good factory finish only to add another? Does it improve blade performance? Just curious and it looked very nice, thank you!!
Thanks Michael for your feedback and question 😁👍🏻 It’s because I don’t like the plastic coating that is on it and prefer to be able to see the steel 😉🏕🔥🌲Tom
Is the gun black product a version of what we in the USA would call Gun Blue, or Cold Blue? Thank you for the video by the way. I really like the way your finish came out.
Thanks Carl 👍🏻😁 appreciate your feedback and question very much my friend. Yes I believe it’s the same product and you can use that instead Thanks for your kind feedback and for watching some of my older videos too 🏕🔥🦌🌲 Tom
That looks very good Sir. Can you use the knife to prepare food or cut meat off a spit without worrying about contaminating the food? I want to this with my ESEE 4.
Yeah no problem there 😉 When it’s dry the “paint” doesn’t come of. I think you should give it a try and see how cool your Esee 4 will be Atb to you my friend 🏕🔥🦌
No doubt it was much better !! Thanks for inspiring me, I'll do the same on my explorer: www.portaldaaventura.net/product-page/faca-cavallini-e-x-p-l-o-r-e-r
Go to Brownells and look for “gun blue.” Products worked well on my 1095 knives. Evapo-Rust will force an even deeper finish but will leave the metal unprotected (and potentially splotchy if painted on) so I wouldn’t recommend it used alone.
I seem to like the bare blade after the finish came off, I'm going to go that route with my RAT-5, as it looks like the stripper already put a chemical patina on the knife, I could be wrong, but thats what it looks like to me.
Yes it does … but I don’t like the “plastic coating “ it’s a little bit glossy … I don’t like that. Gunblack have a nicer finish But it’s all a matter of taste 🤔 Atb to you my friend
Cimbrer Bushcraft You sho 'nuff did. I'd bumped the slider with my thumb, then didn't go all the way back when I re-watched. I felt rather foolish when the page reloaded because I immediately saw the answer, lol. Thank you for taking the time to respond, and for posting a tutorial on that beautiful blade.
Hi 👋🏻 thanks for your question 🤔 I actually don’t know if the plastic will be coloured by the gun black But if it was me … I’ll just put some electrical tape over it and then apply it on the carbon steel 👍🏻😁 When I apply the gun black on a axe and don’t want the edge to be black … I just put tape over it. Hope you’ll succeed in the process 👌🏻 Atb to you my friend 🌤
thanks! so i have to buy this one here: www.ballistol-shop.de/Schnellbruenierung-50-ml-Klever-Streichbruenierung_B-S_281.html you bought an german product, are you from germany? If my blade is not black ore something, i can just start with the "brünieren" or do i have something to prepare on the steel?
No I’m from Denmark 🇩🇰 😊 The product was the only one I could find … and it’s very good Just remember to clean the blade for everything: old paint, oil and other stuff that can prevent the brunerung to inter the metal. You can apply it several times if you want to Let me know how it turns out Atb to my friend 🌤😊🔥😎
Ça fait vraiment bizarre de voir un Esee tout nu 🙂 Après, je ne sais pas si le traitement pour noircir la lame peut tenir longtemps, surtout en faisant du batonnage 🤔 Sinon excellent travail !

Follow up question, does the gun paint need to be stripped before you reapply? Say, I follow your method and O want to reapply in about a year, do I need to strip existing gun paint?
No no not at all 👍🏻😊 … it’s actually not paint 🎨 but a chemical reaction to the steel Just clean the blade from oil before applying gun black again 👌🏻😎 very easy to do
No can’t strike a ferro rod 🤔 but it’s just a matter of making it 90” angle 👍🏻. The black coating holds very nicely 👌🏻 I’m very happy for my black finish and can only recommend it 🙏🏻😊 Atb 🏕

I liked the stripped color on the blade. Could it be left like that or does the blade require some type of protective coating?

I really like the results of this. So is the difference that it is black instead of blue?
Yes you can say that + it’s completely matt ( not glossy)
I love this new look 👍🏻🤗
I really do as well. Almost looks like a DLC coating on a PM2. I'll probably have to try this on mine.
Glad you made the video, thanks!

@@matthewoveracre795 to my knowledge bluing the blade will cause food to taste horrible but that’s only what I’ve heard.

Hi Jimmy … waw that’s a awesome knife 👍🏻 I’ve never seen that before. Good luck with the project
Where did you get the Gun Black? So far I'm coming up with different products. I like what you did so I"m after the same result with same products.
It’s called “ brunerung” and I think it’s a German product
I bought it at a hunting shop
It’s for rifles and guns 😎👌🏻
I cant seem to find it anywhere... Except in Europe. .. Anyway my man, your knife turned out really good. Thanks.
Hope you’ll find it someday 👍🏻

Nice job. Only thing I would change is instead of a metal scraper, use a hard plastic scraper which won't dig grooves into the knife.
Yeah that’s a great idea 😉👍🏻 and would probably do the work as well 🏕🔥Tom
I have a protech mordax. I want to strip the black painted scales. Will that stuff work?
I’m so sorry John but I don’t know if that’s possible 🤔 but I would try it if it was me
Hope you’ll succeed 🏕🔥

No you’re right 👍🏻😁 the knife also looks great without the gun-black on. You could certainly do that … 😊👌🏻
Very nicely done.
Now you have a more "slicey" blade.
Yeah it’s a great way to customise your knife 😁👍🏻
Thanks for your feedback 🏕
Tom
Does the gun black protect from rust?
Yeah it does 😉👍🏻but you still have to treat it with oil to keep it black
Tom
Why remove the "black" epoxy which protect from rust for a look like "black" finish ? does it protect from rust too ?
Yes it does … but I don’t like the “plastic coating “ it’s a little bit glossy … I don’t like that.
Gunblack have a nicer finish
But it’s all a matter of taste 🤔

The original coating from esee is tough but it will wear off after use & it’s not food safe, nor is the gun blue/black 👍🏼
This is easily the most even, deep forced patina I've seen to date. That blade is simply beautiful. What brand of gun "black" did you use?
Hi Steve I glad you like my video 👍🏻😁 In the video I show which brand it is 😉
