- “When the opportunity arose for Hemmings to help fulfill three-time Grammy award-winning rap artist Michael Render’s, aka “Killer Mike” wish of owning his dream car, we had to seize the chance. You see Mike has been a devoted fan of the iconic Buick Grand National since his childhood in the 1980s. However, amidst a life brimming with family, music, and community, his aspiration to make this dream a reality had to be put on hold.
Then, in early December of 2023, the stars aligned in the automotive realm, and a plan was set in motion to create Mike's dream car with the specific goal of having it ready for him to drive to the 2024 Grammy Awards. With the collaboration of industry insiders and an exceptional team of designers and fabricators, we successfully turned Mike's vision into reality.

Love the Grand Natty but hate that you’re removing the 3.8 Turbo! It’s what makes the Grand National a Grand National!

For the first time of my life, three things that I’m extremely passionate (Cars, Hoonigans, and hip-hop ) about have created a trifecta, and it’s awesome. Keep up the good work. @@GuyFawkesWitChu Honestly, we're not sure, but that engine was TIRED and when you factor in the cost of the teardown, parts. labor and then the cost of the rebuild, it was more cost effective to just go with a new engine, plus, you're more than doubling the power. It just made sense in this case.

Love me a GNX, love me an LS/LT, BUT IMO I'd rather see a cool modern V6 and turbo set up rather than a V8 in one.
Not to say the end result won't be awesome.
I think you'll dig this. The original 6 had a wicked knock, so unfortunately it's days were up.

@@drivebigmuscle8080I have a GN & there are enough parts out here to build a new 6. I have one being built right now. The hp output will be = to the LT in mike's car with more torque.
@hemmings They didn't mention that this engine is hand built by 1 person at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, KY. Over 300 individually hand torques.

@@drivebigmuscle8080when you bastardize a classic with just another Ls/LT swap yes. At this point it'll be the same if it had a coyote engine in it. Could've done an atsv v6 keeping with both the v6 and turbos while still making north of 500hp but yawn, another v8 swap into another g body. His car, his money, its whatever

I’m happy with both of my 3.8’s, built and stock. Putting a V-8 in a GN is wack imo. Just cop a Regal… wait it’s not my car. Build what the checkbook/owner wants.

Love the build. But why would you do that to a national. Should have just got a regal and made a clone.
The issue was that the original 3.8 had a bad rod knock, and while it can be rebuilt, there are time constraints and obviously cost, so for this build, it was more effective to go with a new power plant. And honestly, a GN is actually easier to source than a stock regal if you can believe that!
So, spend a ton more money and time trying to make a Regal look like a GN when they already had a GN?
I know LS swap is the easy button but a grand national without the turbo V6 is just a regal.

They should just LS swap a Monte SS instead, 152,000 SS were made only 40,000 GN, Limited, T type etc

Ruined a Grand National...... Why not stuff a (common) ls into a normal regal and paint it black?
Not ruined, saved and improved. We understand that some people are upset at the loss of the turbo 6, but the fact is that engine was mechanically done. Plus, Mike wanted more power and something that was completely unique which is why this decision was made.
To each and their own..... A tuned up Grand National is very unique and rare everywhere. Ls swaps are common and everywhere. I'm by no means bashing you guys that built the car.
