True, I listen to Boo a lot at work and its almost that the guitars and vocals can get drowned a little in the wave of sound sometimes. But I have to say that I am developed a taste for more musical sounding technicality in guitar players. The band The Faceless is more musical sounding to my ear but I just play guitar and am not a trained musician. I like Boo because it the kind of music I like to try playing.
Well said dude, it's more like the guitars are part of the percussions, but there is really a lot more. I loved how tense the previous song was and the oriental feel to this one is pretty cool too. Btw you should fill for their second guitarist ;D
i loved the discovery and will probably still be checking this new album out when it drops, but so far i have been really underwhelmed by the songs i've heard :( there's only so much open chugging i can hear before i start losing interest so i hope the other songs on teh album are a bit more varied!
I'm going to ask a really dumb question. How do you count this in your head. I cone from an era where it was just wide open huitars easy 4/4. Im wants g to go to next level but just don't understand how to count this kind of stuff
This is also in a 4/4 time signature. Just that there are triplets and quadruplets incorporated in the picking which might throw people off. Now, to answer the question of how you count it in your mind. It's just listening to a lot of music and counting them as they go. Starting with simple to follow stuff and once you get the hang of it you will understand how odd parameters work and how to count them as well. As a starting point it is always good to look out for the drums. Especially the hi hats and snare. While the guitar melodies might throw you off, the drums will always carry the time signature which can be deciphered by some key hits. Eg- snare hits on 2 and 4 generally indicates a 4/4 time signature (Doesn't always have to be so just giving an example). Good luck mate :)
I think they are AMAZING at what they do. It's just that a lot of people don't like it. Their guitars are more of a percussion instrument, with occasional melodies. It's acceptable to listen to, but really only because of the synth. Without synth, it would be boring for sure.
First of all, it's a 6 string guitar, and the song is played on a 6 string in drop C. Second, just because the song isn't full out shred/technical, doesn't make it boring. Enjoy the rhythm, the melodies, the heaviness. If you don't like it, go back to The Discovery and wait another year or more for the next album and hope that it satisfies your musical tastes. I personally like this song and I like the fact that it's easier to play because now I can at least play a song by BOO on guitar!
you are correct sir i just figured since most of the rest of that album utilized 8 strings i did not think they still used a higher tuning like that or a 6 string like the first few albums
***** Yeah I found that out shortly after I posted this and realized how stupid it made me look :P Most, if not all, of "The Discovery" was Drop G on 7's so I assumed this was as well.
I get the message that you're trying to convey here but think of it this way, the synths has always been amazing and has definitely been the main attraction in the album no doubt but isn't the guitar a step back from what they used to compose? I may be wrong but that's how I really feel the more and more I listen to the album.
How is this song boring? Honestly, like LiamENGL said, you have to look past the guitars. Fuck, im in music school and i saw the Profs perform today (it was a jazz tune) and the bass looked pretty boring in its self, but the piano was FUCKING KILLER! You cant just look at one instrument and go "oh thats boring, this song is boring", each instrument has its reason and purpose. Some people who live, i cannot say the same for them.
Agreed but the guitar riffs on a new reign and the discovery slay this, their keyboardist and vocalist have outdone themselves in these newer songs but the guitarists are definitely behind now with the loss of jason. Amazing synth parts dont have to be played exclusively when the guitars are 0000000'ing
He definately shouldn't if the stories about the last touring guitarist are true! Apparantly BoO owe him thousands of dollars for the multiple times he helped them out so they could tour, but they refuse to pay him back. It's not the first time ex-BoO members have criticised the dealings of the band so I think we should all be content with listening to the songs rather than wanting to be in the band :P
It's great that they stepped up the synth and I'm super stoked about that but they really simplified the other aspects of their music. I'm all for chugging but this album had just way too much with too little variety. The guitars and drums were really repetitive and got stale really fast. This album could have been shorted down to half it's length and been a solid EP rather than a sub-par album
im not talking about the shredding, im talking about the significant lack of interesting rhythm guitar on this album. They are either 000ing or shredding, literally. The discovery had plenty of notes behind the chugs. listen to devestate for example. not a single song on the new album has rhythmic guitar that interesting.
Meh, this song had so much more potential. They couldve add in a few hooks, or at least more riffs because the first riff started out well matching with the song but it gets repetitive making the whole song kind of dull
Jason is extremely over-rated and BoO made an incredible album without him, maybe even their best album thus far. I'm not a fan of his sound, shit all sounds the same to me just like the 000000'ing all sounds the same to you. Every song doesn't need to sound like a song from a Japanese video game. If I wanted that, I'd listen to power metal or dream theater.
The synth and grooves are the best part of this song!
All your guitars are beautiful man.
One of my all time favorite metal songs!! Good job!
Absolutely phenomenal guitar cover! Keep 'em coming!!
That tone is spot on dude! Nice work!
0 and 12 always works...
So good it doesn't need one!
Whoever their keyboardist is has a lot of ground to cover. The orchestration is incredible.
AWESOME COVER! Your guitar sounds very nice ;-)
This is pretty epic!

I KNEW IT!!! ROCK ON MAN!!!!!! :D
Can you cover Absolution or Illusionist next? I learn these songs by watching you play, excellent work!
Thanks mate! These guitars are so difficult to find, I still can't find them anywhere!
subscribed after seeing 2 vids \m/
good work dude rock on \m/
Liam has 2 new guitars now. It's time for a dawn of new covers.
awesome cover. are going to cover the whole album?
i loved the discovery and will probably still be checking this new album out when it drops, but so far i have been really underwhelmed by the songs i've heard :( there's only so much open chugging i can hear before i start losing interest so i hope the other songs on teh album are a bit more varied!
Where this guitar has pickup switch?

everything's great, but i like your tshirt the most
I know this had been asked, but does anyone know what model guitar this is? I need a 7-string haha
Could you play Illusionist and/or Source Field next?
It's either a Nailbomb or a Coldsweat BKP.
He's playing a Caparison Horus HGS. :)
Not available to view on iPhone 4S :(
What's your signal chain in this? Line6 Pod Pro etc.?
Uhm, fuck yes! I need lessons please.
idk how u keep ur posture in all ur videos good job lol
JOIN THIS BAND
Aeon III would be awesome too..
Give The Origin a good listen. I think it has the most interesting rhythm on the album.
Nice cover! Whats the tuning on this?
I think i recall him saying it was a warpig at some point
Is that your bridge pickup is an EMG 57 ??
Awesome Cover btw , as usual :D
I think they are AMAZING at what they do. It's just that a lot of people don't like it. Their guitars are more of a percussion instrument, with occasional melodies. It's acceptable to listen to, but really only because of the synth. Without synth, it would be boring for sure.
Hey man, good job, this song is great.
IMO Absolution is the best song on the album, you planning on giving that song a go?
Liam can you cover Nevermore's the Godless Endeavor please?
First of all, it's a 6 string guitar, and the song is played on a 6 string in drop C.
Second, just because the song isn't full out shred/technical, doesn't make it boring. Enjoy the rhythm, the melodies, the heaviness. what tuning?. I am guessing Drop D or C#
Drop C
drop a or drop g bro
Dude, it's Drop C
you are correct sir i just figured since most of the rest of that album utilized 8 strings i did not think they still used a higher tuning like that or a 6 string like the first few albums
They don't use 8 strings either. Only 7 and 6 string guitars
Given that it's not high on treble I'd assume it's a Nailbomb for sure.
How did you play this song on a 6-string?
***** Yeah I found that out shortly after I posted this and realized how stupid it made me look :P Most, if not all, of "The Discovery" was Drop G on 7's so I assumed this was as well.
Please cover Source Field :D
He already did
I get the message that you're trying to convey here but think of it this way, the synths has always been amazing and has definitely been the main attraction in the album no doubt but isn't the guitar a step back from what they used to compose? Have you ever seen Space Jam where the little alien things steal the basketball player's skill? Can I like do that with you guitar playing skill? o;
axe fx liam?
How is this song boring?

I honestly reckon you should be there second guitarist now.
mayaswell
Didnt Born of Osiris use 7 strings on this album?
No, they used 9 strings.
Blake Anderson Ok smartass That doesnt answer my question
they used 7.
Blake Anderson Thank you kindly
***** i'd say they used a combination of 6 and 7, seeing as how this song has no need for the low G string on their 7 strings.
Push/Push potentiometer on the volume.
Some of the best riffs are the simple ones you can loose yourself in.
Source Field, if you got time and will.
So many close minded people...... Great Job Liam!
Do machine.
They sound too bright and tight for a Warpig. I doubt that.
It's great that they stepped up the synth and I'm super stoked about that but they really simplified the other aspects of their music. nice hair
Their older songs are much more interesting..
To kick Jason was a big mistake...and not replacing him with you was the next.
市
Awesome cover Liam, not hating on BOO but if their keyboard player leaves, they are FUCKED.
dj0nt
i thought the whole album was on 8 strings
Bro these are good covers but you gotta show some more emotion in your videos! If this were me playing I'd be going nuts and headbanging
im not talking about the shredding, im talking about the significant lack of interesting rhythm guitar on this album. They are either 000ing or shredding, literally. Wow looks like BOO really sucks without Jason Richardson. 90% of this song is chugs. Embarrassing for a band of BOO's caliber
I love B.O.O. but this new songs are so simple and boring...
great cover, but such a boring song
Very well played !! But this song sucks...
市
