- This is from the "Live in Dar Es Salaam" Audio cassette, many people have it uploaded on youtube, but here is my best shot at digitally cleaning it up .

Not a question of who sang it better, the Maestro chose to sing Ustaad Mahdi Hassan's composition speaks of his appreciation of the latter. A legend is never shy of appreciating merit or class no matter even if it comes from someone else. I believe no other sher could be more apt for this as Ghalib once said " Rekhta ke tumhi Ustaad nahin Ghalib, kehtein hain ki agle zamane mein koi Mir bhi tha."

Jagjeet will alway be close to my heart and I miss him dearly but he should never have tried singing Mehdi Hasan ever! Jagjeet should also not have attempted to decipher the couplet for he ruined the meanings altogether 😕
मेहदी हसन की आवाज़ सड़ी gadhaiya जैसी नकसूर, जीभ लपेटती हुए है। मेहदी हसन जितनी बुरी आवाज़ ढूंढना मुश्किल ही नहीं बल्कि नामुमकिन है। वह आवाज़ को ऊपर नहीं ले जा पाता उसकी आवाज़ कांपने लगती है आरोही स्वर में। ऐसा उसने यूट्यूब पर मौजूद एक वीडियो इंटरव्यू में ख़ुद बताया है।
