I have 7 month of decent weather here in Georgia, from April thru October. Temperature will range from about 44 - 90 degree Fahrenheit, can I grow the Nigerian yam ?
Milking is method of harvesting twice from a yam during it's lifespan. You firstly harvest the tubers after like 5 to 6 months, without damaging the root system of the yam, then you leave out the vines and root and cover with soil, after which, you allow to develop another set for about 3 months, this time, what you would get would be the seed yam.
You don't have to. But without water, it may not sprout as expected. The soil should just be a bit moist and not too moist when you want to apply water eventually.
Thanks for impacting this knowledge, may God bless you and your business, when does yam planting commence in Nigeria?. Is chicken poo good as fertilizer for the yam?.
Hi Chidav...So I planted yam in sacks but the yield wasn't encouraging, the same seeds did well on another site, so I think the soil is suspect. Is there a crude way to do a soil test?
There are a lot of factors that would have been responsible for the poor yield And I can't point to one. Of course soil nutrition level would play a huge role in it. You can try getting enough manure for your field. And also use a very big sack when planting next, and ensure you have a good yam seed
At what time do farmer apply fertilizer?

Pls what type of fertilizer supports root development in yam
