What was the original trailer for "The Exorcist" like? I'm asking since I think part of what made this movie such a cultural event back in the 70s was that people literally had no idea what they were going in to.
You should write a whole account of it. How old you were, who you were with, what you remember. How others were reacting etc. The news footage of it is such a valuable piece of preserved pop culture history. It traumatised me like 25 years later, a whole new generation, who knew all of the scene contents and could watch it at home. Still had to sleep in the same bed as my Mum for months!
This was really fantastic, the editing made it definitely feel like a modern trailer, and for as many times as i've seen this movie, this edit gave me actual chills. great job.
it’s amazing it really is!! It’s an edit sure, but it would make a good amazing trailer, including with the music. But that’s just my opinion, personal opinion. cheers from mexico!!
You're right. The film is so full of symbolism that we didn't understand then, though now, if this film came out, we'd all be so anxious to understand who the demon in Iraq, is..etc, etc, etc.....that people would be Googling throughout the film piecing the symbology together. Smartphones would have to be asked to be turned off, or put on airplane mode, before the film begins, as they do in the "legitimate" theatre. 3 minutes of a trailer does not even begin in understanding this film and its preface in Iraq, the relationship with Damien and his mother, Assyrian mythology..and again, the list can go on. I saw the film when I was 9, originally, as my mom was taking my older sister and her friends. By the time Linda Blair was masturbating with the crucifix, I was begging my mom to take me home. Didn't happen. To this day, 40 years later, this film, along with the "Omen" which I saw 2 years later, maybe, have had the most influence on how I see films. I remember every detail of both. "The Omen", even, I remember the Biblical verses, have been, per coincidence, to the monastery in Southern Italy, where they filmed the part where they find the priest burned in the fire in Rome, I believe it is in Subiaco, I remember the poem made up.."When the Jews return to Zion, and a comet fills the sky...."! Don't know why these films have made such impressions on me but they did and will continue to. I compare every scary film, based on Biblical verses or similar, to those 2...and NONE compare. This trailer was nothing and gives away nothing. Sorry for the length of my post. I am sorry but when I get going.....I have trouble stopping. Pax et Bonum!
Must agree, its the best trailer I've seen for this film in present day from this astonishing piece of film making. Such a different world of cinema we have today from 1973, when it shocked audiences. Its a "perfect" piece of cinema, in that there is no excess in dramatic pace, dialogue or editing. It just moves perfectly from one intriguing scene to the next. Until its too much to take. And the missing Tubular Bells bit is not really an issue for me. But, yes, it could just have made the trailer more ominous. IMHO
Thanks and let's just call it an extended trailer. ;) And I used The Ring soundtrack at the beginning and Engel by Scala and Kolacny Brothers at the end.
This trailer is bad ass. My favorite movie of all time. I see this house and the steps everyday since I live a few houses down from the exorcist steps and house. Great job on the trailer .
Eric Butler And your younger but growing up in the 70's this scared the shit out of me and I still watch horror movies and love horror movies but the 70's wins in horror and today's horror movies don't match the 70's in horror!!!
I’d say the only thing keeping this edit from looking completely modern is the original film’s old school audio (not the editor’s fault of course) but everything else, especially the added sfx and even the cuts, the music, slaps pretty hard. Excellent work!
This is the best trailer I've seen in my whole life. This looks like one of the scariest movies ever! My birthday is coming up in 3 months, and my cousins, friends, and I are going to watch it. I can't wait! I will tell you guys how it is after I watch it
It is a wonderful classic and as you will see isn't just a "scary movie" like they have today, it also has a message about faith and love, besides being really well acted. Even the bit players are excellent, one of the keys to a film of lasting greatness.
So what were your thoughts after watching it? It's been a long time. Hope you still feel scared... because great horror never fades away, no matter what form it comes in! 😱
It's like this: If ever I show up to attend a demonic "cleansing", and the demon says: "What an excellent day for an exorcism", I'm turning tail, and getting the hell out of there!
A good trailer. I am a massive fan of "The Exorcist" the film went beyond being just a movie, it became a narrative about society, and many of the things we fear. "The Exorcist" is a tour de force of literature and cinema, and unnerves us in a way no novel or film has done since. I like the new soundtrack you have applied, it gives it a wholly different aura. Tubular bells will always be attached and synonymous with "The Exorcist" but you have done a wonderful job.
As a huge fan as well, frightism made an incredible video giving that specific vibe you said about modernism. It really captivates the novel but however, I’m glad somethings from the novel wasn’t out on the film. You can definitely notice the messed up parts that you would be glad it wasn’t in the movies. The Exorcist is amazing and one of a kind.
And this part of what's wrong with most modern horror movies. That trailer was not scary at all and pretty much summarized the entire movie, giving away many key scares. The original trailers held way more suspense, leaving the most important scenes for the actual movie.
lady dulayne the exorcists is not about jumps scares or being scary its about psychological horror 2 different things watch the movie if you havent already and see that this revealed nothing besides that the girl is possessed by a devil
Scquagilychicken umm..you're absolutely right in saying it isn't about jump scares. However, I have to disagree with your statement about this movie not being scary. but, this trailer does give a lot away
A fitting tribute to perhaps the most iconic, shocking horror film of the twentieth century! Very clever editing and visual impact! It gives the 'feel' of a new release from the Warner Studio!
That was cool, my favorite movie edited brilliantly!.... Most of the stuff on UA-cam is crap but that was really good... I've watched that movie 100 times but that trailer have me goosebumps
Ignore all these idiots talking about you ruining it. It’s your channel and you can make what you want, how you want. I am a HUGE classic horror and Exorcist fan and it was absolutely incredible! It flowed beautifully, the soundtrack was perfect. An amazing job at modernizing a trailer for a true modern classic. I personally felt that this is the kind of trailer you would see for a re-release or an anniversary of the film, or for the fans like myself! I mean shit people, it’s been coming up on 50 years at this point since it’s release. If you haven’t seen it yet and this spoils it for you, that’s on you. BEST MODERNIZED TRAILER ON UA-cam!!!!
This was awesome!! Maybe the background song could've been more eerie but this was amazing, it had me scared to see what would pop up- just like watching it for the first time.
Great job w/ this new trailer. The soundtrack comes alive and it really creeps at you. Congrats, they should use this when the movie gets re-release in IMAX cinemas.
This is fantastic!!! The music choices were great but still could've had the tubular bells theme somewhere in it, that aside this was very awesome and well paced. I can't wait to see it.
Wonderful job! I want to see this again right away, but I'm gonna wait to see it at an outdoor festival I'm going to soon. Outdoors...at night... Oy. :)
I like the way you inserted a clip of the Pazuzu statue right before the scene where Chris is speaking to Fr. Karras and Regan's goony bird that looks like him is on the table.
frightism Thank you for posting this. This has to be the BEST modernized trailer for this movie I've ever seen. The Exorcist is possibly one the best horror movies ever made. Nothing can surpass it. Just like nothing can surpass this trailer. Kudos to you. Have a nice day!
I LOVE the choice in music, just picture if this was the trailer for the movie, it gives the immpression that its gonna be a great movie but then the ppl go see it and the u expecting audience are scared to death!!!

The movie was gold!! Best ever by far, however,I was born in 74 and watched it fully in like 1989 as a teen I rented it, it scared me crazy!! I saw it again in 2000 with the new scenes and it didn't terrify like it did people in 73. People were laughing and my friend who was 14 years older than me (had seen the movie as a Teen when it came out) who was with me was so pissed she had to leave!! She was disgusted at the lack of respect from people in this era) Different generations with different visual stimuli reacting differently!

Read the book first then watch the movie. That's what I did! Cheers!
I saw this movie when l was 7 years old. My Mom had warned me about it. After we left the theatre. I had to sleep with her, and with the light on. She also had to read the Bible to me every night. It really had me scared for years. It's my favorite movie. Because no other has touched me like. THE EXORCIST. LINDA BLAIR DESERVED AN OSCAR AND MANY OTHER ACCOLADES. I feel that at 14 years old. SHE WAS BRILLIANT! THE SCARIEST MOTION PICTURE OF ALL TIME. BRAVO!! The book is even 👿🤮more haunting.
no shade at your mom but she took you to see the Exorcist when you were 7 ?? I know people who saw it as adults and still don't even wanna talk about the film. hope you're doing ok.

After all these years, still the scariest movie I’ve ever seen. When I saw it in its 1973 release, I had to sleep with the light on for two weeks.

"What an excellent day for an exorcism".
"You'd like that ?"
"Intensely".
Whoever created this, GREAT JOB!!!! I really enjoyed it.
Ignore the experts on here. This was well done
Oh yes it's great edit, but you have to admit they spoiled everything, the original trailer didn't show regan demonized at all

Thanks and let's just call it an extended trailer. ;) And I used The Ring soundtrack at the beginning and Engel by Scala and Kolacny Brothers at the end.
More than a trailer this is a sum-up of the whole movie in just over three minutes. Kudos.
Finally a trailer that shows the movie properly unlike the original trailers.
I'm nine years late, but really enjoyed this trailer. Cheers.
This is amazing. It goes on for longer than a trailer usually does but with a movie like this, it works and needs a bit more time than most. Loved it.
Amazing trailer, they should use it if they ever re-release the movie in theaters.
Omg, Top Notch job. Seen this movie probably 30 or so times and this trailer makes it look like a new release. 2 thumbs way up!!
Definitely one of the best modern trailers I've seen in quite some time
what happened to Tubular Bells? It's not the Exorcist without Tubular Bells :(

Good point.
The music does help set the tone.
A 🎥 like this doesn't work
with a punk-rock/rap soundtrack.
Lady Gaga wouldn't work here.
It's certainly not "Shirley Temple in Fantasyland" either!
Great trailer, love this, excellent modern version for the greatest film of all time The Exorcist!
