I recommend using sawdust as a cutting medium as moisture contained is higher. Also all the plants to grow longer about 2 to 300 mm take them individually, remove lower leaves and root them in sand. Then plant one plant every 300mm in a lowish Nitrogen medium. I use a raised bed of soil with white mulch film. This year 500 plants yield was 380kg. I grow outside using a tractor

What does the cement do? Seal the cut?
The cement Prevent the seedling (tuner) from bacterial infection which will rotten it.

@@NoLefTurnUnStoned. toxins are release when the glucose in the plants are destroyed, but in this case the application is to the seedlings not the plant that will germinate and produce a new and fresh plant!
