This remains one of the best Gears of War music videos of all time. Top 3, easy. Trust me, I've been following this franchise since the first GameInformer cover article in 2006. This is the one with the special editing sauce to condense the gist into a single montage, and make it make sense to newcomers.
I love Gears 5, but no, it doesn't count as part of "the gist." The choice at the end threw everything off by leaving too much in doubt, when they should've just firmly committed (or at least used JACK in the cutscene to at least make sense).
EDIT: I was reminded about the one that made me mourn my brother Jimmy for days, just from knowing the song and seeing the thumbnail. Gotta give the top spot to that one, especially since James Clay Stockton was JD Fenix in the flesh, lost too young, and the best Player 1 any little brother ever managed to be. Gears was our passion franchise and weekly bonding exercise through childhood. We survived abuse I can't recount here. Jimmy was my mentor despite being 8 years my junior, and he started young. We beat Gears 4 on launch day, and Jimmy beat JD to his best lines (there were no UA-cam vids yet, we checked), so I know for a *fact* that kid was every bit the JD in Gears 5, because he died without revealing the greatest regret he ever told us haunted him... And I know what it was, threefold. He even looked like JD, cold blue eyes and everything, which was odd considering our dark-haired family. Only our dad had those eyes, that poor excuse for a man... Sorry I memory-holed this into a text wall while editing, but I didn't want to insult the creator by leaving him without an explanation. My praise for this video remains high, but I was too rash.
