Little bit of history : during second world war India was fighting as a part of British empire was fighting allied forces Germany under Hitler and Italy under Mussolini. We fell short of rice as much of it was transferred to war bases for British army (consisting of its commonwealth) fighting in Europe. So MtR - mavalli tiffin rooms came with the idea of replacing rice with sooni and came up with rava idli for people who were general public in India. This way they were able to reroute rice to war bases and still kept public of south India content with idli
bath means rice. vangi bath is brinjal rice, tomato bath is tomato rice, bisi bele bath is lentil rice. literal translation of rice bath is rice rice:)
By the way, Sambar is another Bangalore invention. It is when Sambhaji Raje this area. The konkani Puneri Brahmin in Sambhaji missed his tangy maharashtrian food, where the souring agent was kokum. His cooks innovated this dhal and vegetable dish by using locally sourced tamarind and local spice mixes which was named Sambhaji Rassa which over time became Sambar
Good afternoon dear Tanmay - Didn’t want to miss the vlog . So caught up with it now . I am sure that this would be yet another fabulous vlog 👍👍 Kitchen tour - I agree we all have wonderful memories of having the iconic MTR’s Rava Idli 💯💯💯 . As a matter of fact it still brings a smile & happiness to watch the delectable MTR IDLI - ICONIC is an understated adjective for India’s most loved RI 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Wow look at the final output- Impeccable 😋😋 I have been to this eatery so many times over the years with my family & cousins ❤️❤️❤️ Cool - They actually shared the recipe with you and in turn we got privy to it . I love RI more than plain Idli . Unable to control my temptation to have a plate of the delectable MTR RI with a liberal dose of thuppa 😋😋😋 Thanks for clarification on the the humming sound . For a moment I thought my ears were ringing in excitement 😂😂 Finally time to savour the legendary RI - the texture is so succulent along with their delectable Masala Potato Sagu & coconut chutney 👌👌😋 Good ploy to have one bite of plain RI & second with a good dose of Thuppa 👍👍 Glad that you & Gayan relished the ICONIC MTR - RI followed by a decadent glass of Fruit custard / Fruit Salad 👌👌 Next pitstop at Shree Raghavendra Stores . Like I mentioned in one of my previous comment - Ba’ath itself means Cooked Rice ; When you say Rice Baath it’s like the Westerns say Chai Tea for Tea 😅 Time to savour some Idli - Vada with their special Chutney , Mixed Baath & Mirchi Bhaji . Pongal on the other hand derives its name from the Tamil word “Pongal” which means to Rise up . The act of cooking the dish ( simple lentil based dish ) in an earthern pot and let it overflow is called Pongal . Baath is not an act of scooping a rice based dish and serving it on a plate .Glad that you relished all the dishes and I am truly hungry now 🤤🤤 Kudos to Manish for taking you around all the good eateries in Bengaluru . Yet again , another Fantastic vlog. Thoroughly enjoyed it . Especially having nostalgic memories about dining at MTR ❤️❤️❤️ Bengaluru series has been simply outstanding. Every vlog of the series is filled with amazing content 💯💯💯 Great job dear Tanmay 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Stay Blessed 😇. Loads of Love & Hugs 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
Bhath is a collection of breakfast dishes based on rice or sooji in South interior karnataka. A spiced up Upma becomes khara bhath, a baingan pulao becomes Vangi Bhath, a saffron infused sooji halwa becomes kesari bhath, a basic vegetable pulao is rice bhath, some variations are tomato rice bhath, puliyogare also referred to as tamarind rice bhath, spiced dal khichdi becomes bisi bele bhath. A variation of this is the hyacinth dhal khichdi also called avarebele bhath. Then you have methi pulao called menthya rice bhath. Most outlets are frequented by loyal patrons on a daily breakfast basis. To keep their palates excited, most outlets have a different type of rice bhath for every day of the week.
I read most of the comments and saw that actually most of the kannada people only talking about the right pronounciation that north indian people don't do and wanna to glorify there own kannada...but i wanna to say something..... I'm a north indian Rajasthani and basically our mother language is marwadi not hindi (both are totally different) but we still learn hindi in our school b/c we want to create a unity b/w the people of india on the basis of language so that they never feel that they are from alian state...if any of the south Indian come to our north side we never force her/him to talk in marwadi, gujrati, punjabi, Haryanvi...if he/she is good with hindi that ok if not either we say soory brother or use English language (that much we know) we as a north indian people never fight on the stupid things"ohhh this is wrong pronounced" " first go and learn"....we just ok forget it b/c not every one is 100% right. The only thing is why kannada people has problem with hindi to learn if we all north indian accept it without thinking about our mother language and put the nation unity first... why they(kannada) don't want to make a language as a nation symbol...if u say replace hindi with English than you have to know it is British language not an indian language. Or if u not want to unite the people of india on basis on language then better is accept the wrong prononciation of north people as a big heart person. I know many kannada now use abusive language b/c they have no answer on nation unity on basis of language. Be kind to other people every one is human from a one nation 🙏
Bath literally is any dish made of rice. If you can define it like bisibele bath, vangi bath etc. Sometimes they met not be able to define properly they just call it as rice bath. Now don't ask me why pulav is not called bath, it is practiced to call as pulav or you can call it as Vegetable rice bath nothing wrong.
Bhai. Also plz visit "Veena stores" Malleshwaram. Wada taste will amaze you. N there is another spot after this. Near malleshwaram ground u have "central tiffin room" famous for Dosa.

Idli, Uddin wada (medu wada), dosa were invented in Karnataka. It's a proper south dish. You should actually try it here! I also appreciate if they make good idli in the place you mentioned. 👍🏽
Baat is commonly used in Bengal for Rice. There is nothing new or baath room bath about it. Your narration/ Presentation is appealing, though, at times sarcastic...

When rice is cooked /boiled inside spice bath. Bath is preparation style. In bath you do not cook rice and spice separately like Biryani.
