I looking for Australian made swags any recommendations beside crashpad? When it comes to seasoning a swag is it a one and done thing or is it something you have to do yearly?
Gday Spencer, There’s a couple of all Australian made swags. Top quality. Southern Cross Canvas Murchison Swags That’s a couple mate. I’ve only done mine once. Just see how yours go where you find it needs doing again down the track. Thanks heaps mate for you feedback Cheers Tim
I've got a Dune swag (about a month old) that leaks despite seasoning the recommended way. A coworker's brother soaked theirs in a pool for 24hrs to get it seasoned,I don't have a pool so mine is currently in the empty recycling bin filled with water soaking. Fingers crossed this works 🤞👍
Thanks for the video, Tim. Just bought a 23Zero swag which has seam tape inside. Any idea if soaking a swag with seam tape may soften and cause the seam tape to come off? Was just gonna do the hose method til I saw this vid but I reckon yours works better if it won’t ruin that tape.
Gday mate. Mmm, not sure about the seem tape. Might need to season with the backyard hose. Not sure how a drenching could effect the seem tape. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim
Do you season it once a year? And only once in the bath. Or a few times in a row ie like over a week maybe three times? Also, should you dry inside the swag before zipping up for drying like at the end of your video? Thanks so much.
Gday mate I’ve only ever done my swag once other than the demonstration I did for the video. Once the canvas shrinks around the stitching holes, it really shouldn’t need doing again. You want the swag full dry, both inside and out before rolling it up. I hope that helps mate. Thanks for your feedback Cheers Tim.

An open question to Tim Bates and viewers: how well might this work for adventure kings swags? double deluxe specifically. I have one and the stitchingg around the four corners of the base and the canvas seems to still have visible holes after a few soakings with a hose/watering can. I wonder if the bath will fix these corners or whether I might need a silicon sealant or something for them
You really should only need to do the initial drenching. But over time if you find your sag is leaking in spots around the stitching, then give it another go. Cheers Tim
Great vid. Just curious if it actually has to be in the sun in particular, as its rather hard during winter. Im assuming setting it up inside with a heater on would have the same affect?
Gday Charles, Yeah it’s a little harder at this time of year to get some decent drying sunshine. The direct sun dries it fairly quickly, in turn doing the job it needs to do on the canvas. Couldn’t see why it wouldn’t do the same job inside with the heater on mate. Hope that helps mate. Thanks for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Hey Tim, Just a quick question. I'm pretty new to camping and I am about to buy my first ever swag. After the seasoning process does the inside just dry by itself or do I need to give it a wipe down?
Hey mate do you need to fry the swag outside in the sun or do you recon you could fry it inside the house with the heater on as the weather is not the best here at the moment with no sun . Should I just wait till summer time and do it then
Gday Jason. I’ve never tried drying my swag from inside under the heater. I like using the direct sun to dry the swag during seasoning. It drys quicker and the canvas shrinks better around the stitching. See how you go mate. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
I wouldn’t mate. Very heavy for a washing line to take a swag canvas swag. I’ve just always done it as shown in the video. Hope that helps mate and thanks for your reply. Cheers Tim
I just tried to season a kings swag with a garden hose. Gave it about 5 seasons 10 minutes a piece and it still leaks like a sieve. I’m going to try this method and see how it goes before I give up and send it back.

@@timbates4wdadventures cool thanks for the tips, in the past I've used a hose and dry method over four attempts but found leaking through the stitches and binding. I think your method is best
Hey Tim, do you repeat the process at all? As in soak it overnight, dry it out, then soak it again? Or just the once? Seems like people who use the garden hose method do it 2-3 times. Cheers!
Gday Murphy, No, I only soak and dry it the once. I just find the garden hose doesn’t do a good enough job at really getting into the stitching. So you might need to repeat the process if using the garden hose. The bath soaking works a treat. Hope that helps mate. Cheers Tim.
Question time ….. I’m 42,,, I purchased my king single when I was 21…. The mattress is not what it used to be…. Do I replace the mattress for around $150-200 or buy new swag for $250-3000 ( don’t build ‘‘em like they used to)
Gday mate. If your swag is still in good condition for its age, I’d buy a new mattress every day of the week. My swag is over 15 years old. No way I’d replace it for a new swag over a worn out mattress. They sure don’t make ‘em like they use to. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
Gday mate, I have 3 B&W swags. They are over 15 yrs old and have been top notch. You can’t compare my age swags to today’s. Great video, I also hang it upside down while it's set up to let it dry faster. If you get mold on it, brush it off and spray a solution of 250ml hot water and 10b drops of oil of clove. It won't remove the stain but mold won't come back and your swag ends up smelling delish

Threw my latest swag in the pool when the chlorine level was low to nill. Once dry I sprayed the underside pressure points where the poles push down (Each corner) with clear plastidip to give a sacrificial wear barrier. Great Vid as swags really do need to be soaked all the way through.

Hey Tim. Great vid mate.
Is it beneficial to re season an old swag to help keep it in top condition?
I have only ever done my the once. But it cant hurt mate, if you want to give it another soaking.
Thanks for your reply mate.
Cheers Tim.
Do you season it once a year? And only once in the bath. Or a few times in a row ie like over a week maybe three times?
Also, should you dry inside the swag before zipping up for drying like at the end of your video? Thanks so much.
Gday mate
I’ve only ever done my swag once other than the demonstration I did for the video.
Once the canvas shrinks around the stitching holes, it really shouldn’t need doing again.
You want the swag full dry, both inside and out before rolling it up.
I hope that helps mate.

Mate I’ve got some 4x4 questions for you. Do you have an email address I can write to you on?

Yeah mate.

An open question to Tim Bates and viewers:
how well might this work for adventure kings swags? double deluxe specifically.
I have one and the stitchingg around the four corners of the base and the canvas seems to still have visible holes after a few soakings with a hose/watering can.
I wonder if the bath will fix these corners or whether I might need a silicon sealant or something for them
How often do you need to repeat this process? About to get my new swag shortly.
Gday Charles,
Yeah it’s a little harder at this time of year to get some decent drying sunshine.
The direct sun dries it fairly quickly, in turn doing the job it needs to do on the canvas.
Couldn’t see why it wouldn’t do the same job inside with the heater on mate.
Hope that helps mate.

Hey Tim, Just a quick question. I'm pretty new to camping and I am about to buy my first ever swag. After the seasoning process does the inside just dry by itself or do I need to give it a wipe down?

If you leave your swag open for while drying, the inside should dry as well.

Cheers Tim.
Thanks for the reply mate I might just wait till the summer months and give it ago then 👍🏻
Do you reckon its alright to just hang it up on the clothes line to dry it?
