I got my first swag the other day and thought I'd season it today (it's a beaut day here in WA). I pegged her up in the back yard, gave it a good hose and let it dry. If you hose it again.
Pay close attention to the stitching.
You want the canvas to shrink around the stitching hose.
I found the soak in the bath works great to really get into the stitching holes.
Just loosely peg it when you dry it.

Yep, best way of seasoning a swag.
Bathtub, empty drum or wheelie bin. Its alot more water wise to do it this way too. The cocky would of bloody shot me, if i sat there watering my swag, off the house water tank! Hahaha.Youll have to stand there for awhile, with the hose, to soak it properly too. Ill re-season it again after a big trip especially if ive been in hot dry climates like the Pilbrara or Kimberley regions. Youll find ya swag will shrink a bit when its been in a hot dry climate for awhile. So great way of washing all the red dust and fart particles out of ya fart sack. And just make sure it seals nicely, before ya head out, whatever time of year...great vid Tim!👍👌

    Question time ….. I’m 42,,, I purchased my king single when I was 21….
The mattress is not what it used to be…. Do I replace the mattress for around $150-200 or buy new swag for $250-3000 ( don’t build ‘‘em like they used to)

      Gday mate.
If your swag is still in good condition for its age, I’d buy a new mattress every day of the week.
My swag is over 15 years old. No way I’d replace it for a new swag over a worn out mattress.
They sure don’t make ‘em like they use to.
      Thanks mate for your feedback.
      Cheers Tim.

    • @timbates4wdadventures
      @timbates4wdadventures  3 роки тому +1

      Gday mate,
      I have 3 B&W swags.
They are over 15 yrs old and have been top notch.
You can’t compare my age swags to today’s.
But, from what I see on social media about the B&W swags, reviews aren’t great now they are made OS.
      Mine were Australian made.
Do your research before you buy.
      Hope that helps mate.
      Cheers Tim

Hey mate just did the bath method and it’s currently drying up outside. With this way of seasoning do I need to bath soak multiple times or would the once overnight do the job.
    Cheers

I’ve only ever done it once with my swags.
Today is a top day for it.
Warm day with plenty of warm sun.
      Thanks for your reply mate.

What do you recommend for re-proofing the canvas?

    • @timbates4wdadventures
      @timbates4wdadventures  4 роки тому +1

      Gday mate,
If the canvas itself is leaking and not through the stitching.
Maybe one of the sprays that you can spray on the canvas. That might help mate.
      Cheers Tim.

Hey Mate, if seasoning this way, how many times does it get done in the tub? Just the once?

Don’t go and buy all the latest and greatest camp gear.

Simple but it’s all I need.
