Probably the only thing I miss is the sound of the Barra, but the luxuries of the Stinger more than make up for it. The Falcon didn't even have basics like keyless entry or paddle shifters, let alone android auto, 360 cam, HUD, and all the other luxuries the Stinger has.
Awesome review Ross, agreed with everything you said. They’re great cars and just the perfect all rounder (especially the AWD models). Shame they are under appreciated due to the number of badge snobs out there who can’t see past the Kia badge which as well and truely established itself as a legitimate great car brand for nearly a decade now
I always felt like the Stinger was the spiritual successor to the OG F6 Typhoon. Kia really nailed the perfect car and this final Stinger GT is the best bang for buck sedan out there.
Great review. Kia claim 4.7 seconds from 0-100. There are videos where people have done it in 4 seconds using a stock Kia GT. I have pushed mine and low 4's are very attainable. I have constantly said it since I got mine in 2020. This is the best value car on the road when all things such as performance, standard equipment, warranty, driving experience, and price is considered. Nothing comes close. The worst thing about driving this gem is having to get out of it. I have done several Sydney to Melbourne trips in mine, and it is so comfortable and such a great drive. Not to mention it is a rocket in luxury clothing.
Enjoyed the review of the Stinger GT, Ross. I agree, it is a shame that they aren’t going to be made anymore. It’s a great rear wheel drive car. We see a few of them in our area and they’re a good looking car. I’d agree they should have dialled the interior down a bit to appeal to more people that were after a alternative to the simpler Falcon and Commodore. They could have done more to price match the Falcon the Commodore of the day too. Thanks for the review.
Criminally underrated car - too many people see the Kia badge and write it off. I'd have to say though, price wise it's quite comparable to the G6E-T, actually a bit cheaper - and if I recall correctly, the XR6-T would also have been a similar price given inflation. Perhaps they could have made a more "base model" with the 3.3 turbo, but I think the bigger problem is the market for sub $100,000, sporty new saloons is just very, very small nowdays when everyone in that $50-$100K is buying chubby SUV's.
Traded in my '05 Mustang for a '23 AWD GT2 last weekend. Not only is it a complete step up in terms of technology in the car, but it also feels 1000 times better to drive imo. Looking forward to keeping it for as long as possible. Sucks that these sold so badly, people have been missing out on the Stinger.

I used to own a 2010 Forte EX that did very well for me surprisingly and in some of their worst years too! Upgraded to a 2022 Stinger Scorpion AWD all black and I try to find excuses everyday to go out and drive it. The launch control really pushes it to 4.6s with the AWD version and if you want to drive it like a grandpa, you can. That twin turbo makes it so the power is always there no matter the RPMs, one kicks in at around 1k rpm, the second kicks in at around 4.5k rpm. So the car just always wants to go no matter how fast you are going. It will downshift itself pretty hard as if it knows your intentions. The torque vectoring on the transmission is a bit rough when trying to be a slow and low RPM driver. It will hit that 2nd gear pretty early when trying to stop at a stop sign in a 50km-30km road. It is as if you need to drive it somewhat hard and push the brakes pretty hard before the 2nd kicks in lol. Great daily, great road trip car. Handles realllllllly well for its weight class. Something tells me that long wheelbase has to do a lot with the 50/50 weight distribution. The engine is far behind the front wheels too, kind of like BMW does it. It is hard to get out of for certain people but it is worth it. All the luxuries and safety features you can ask for, especially in the GT2 trim. If it was a couple 2 door it would have been a seller. But a sedan these days no matter if it’s 1000 kw it’s seen as a sedan, look at all the Euro big heavy sedans 2nd hand they don’t have a resale value. Cheers mate 🇦🇺
No. It's too late in England. My car lease ended in April and I asked the leasing company to get me a Stinger but Kia had pulled them by then. I'm gutted.
They killed off this kia stinger so that you are left with the genesis g80 as an option. Why would people buy a g80 which cost 2x more with basically the same power output? Performance? The g80 is based off the stinger or vice versa. So it makes sense to kill off the stinger n get buyers to buy the g80. Why would u buy a camry that has same power output and performance as a lexus priced 2x more right? Same power, same performance ?
I have a 2018 model Stinger GT Such an amazing, beautiful and sleek car. Kia really upped there game with this car, they went from the old budget type car manufacturer that no one gave a second thought about to one of the best premium brands today. Kia/Hyundai have upped there game big time producing some of the best cars in the modern day especially with there performance line-up with there Kia GT model of cars, and Hyundai’s N brand. You get amazing quality, fantastic interior and looking exterior, and performance equivalent to that of the big 3 German brands on a “budget” price tag compared to that of the European cars. When Kia/Hyundai hired Albert Biermann, a well-known German engineer who has had experience producing cars such as the Audi TT and BMW M division line of cars you knew that this once budgety brand was going to change for the better. I know if the Stinger had an AMG badge slapped on it, it would’ve been double the price it is worth. For 60-70k this car is an absolute bargain, and the performance is mind-blowing for its price tag. Who thought that one day your V8 Commodore or Ford Falcon XR8 or any hot hatch, sport sedan (Golf R/GTI, S3, WRX etc…) would get gapped at the lights by a Kia. This car was a game changer for the brand and deserved to continue for a 2nd generation but unfortunately nowadays all Aussies know to buy is just Utes and SUV’s which seems to be the trend these days, and these awesome looking sedans/fastbacks die so quickly which is a damn shame. One thing that annoyed me was that alot of people overlooked this car simply on name alone, badge snobbery runs deep with alot of people and only look at certain manufacturers on past reputation rather than what they are in the modern day. Every time I step into this car, it always puts a smile on my face because it is a special car and an absolute rocket. Only slight downside I would give is although the 8 Speed traditional torque converter auto does an exceptional job, I hoped Kia would’ve rather used a quick-shifting DCT just like they do in there Hyundai N performance cars, and that the car doesn’t automatically upshift for you in “manual mode” when you want to go for a spirited drive, I found that rather annoying, also if it had a better soundtrack for the engine note, a more throaty raucious vibe that would’ve been better, I don’t think pops & bangs would suit this car, it’s too mature and sleek and not boy toy hoon hatch racer, but other than that, fantastic car. At 9:30, the car does have a launch control mode, you put it in Sport mode, then hold the traction button for a couple of seconds to turn off the traction control and the ESC completely off. Then left foot brake and right foot on the accelerator as usual and “Launch control ready” should appear on the dash. Kia officialy claims this car to do 0-100 km/h in 4.9 secs although I’ve seen vids where people have clocked 4.7 on a good day, but regardless low 5’s/high 4’s for a car that weighs over 1800kg is nuts.
Australia doesn’t get the 2.5L turbo 4cyl Stinger, nor the AWD version. The only Stinger models available in Australia is the 3.3L TT V6 as per standard as well as a 2.0L turbo 4cyl variant carried over from the 3rd and 4th generation Kia Optima GT respectively, slightly tweaked by 2kW & 3Nm to make 182kW and 353Nm. Mind you the 2.0L versions of the Stinger were discontinued far earlier due to poor sales of that powertrain as many of the sales were obviously for the top of the line GT model with the 3.3L TT V6. The 2.5L turbo 4cyl was reserved for the Hyundai Sonata N Line, Kia’s sister company, and the Kia K5 (previously known as the Optima) which also didn’t make its way to Australian shores unfortunately because that car looks absolutely awesome, like Russell said lack of sedan sales have killed the market for these cars because the Australian clown market just loves there big utes and SUV’s, why, honestly I’d love to know why this ute trend has taken over. Clowns trying to speed past you and tailgate you in a 2 ton 4cyl turbo diesel as if they’re driving some sport car.
@@RossReviewsau dunno mate I wouldn't say it handles better than a i30n sedan... Maybe better than the i30n hatch which is on a older platform. The i30n sedan would slaughter this on track especially the DCT, it keeps up with the latest Honda type r / GR Corolla and the likes.. The stinger is just more a GT car .. It's definitely nicer inside but heavier. It shares the same platform as the genesis g70 which I've always loved.
Ford and Holden fan here. Not liking it because its a tiny v6. Also its all plastic. Not because its to advance. Also if anyone wants a family car they'll be looking into suv and dual cab. I daily a 2022 rogue and 2018 vx landcruiser. I kept my big rear wheel drive fgx xr8 and ve hsv maloo for the weekend.
I guess you haven't driven a stinger then. Im a holden fan, while it don't have the noise, it absolutely has the passion. Also, if anyone wants to buy an SUV or a Dual cab ute, they are just a fag who wants to fit in with the rest of the sheep. Let them do that. Real motor enthusiasts buy what makes them excited to drive.
I wont be in the market for a new car until 2024, so just peachy Kia is ending the Stinger this year. The GT1 was at the top of my list. Damn you SUV’s & EV’s. 😢
1: there is dealer exhaust upgrade but really no matter how hard its been tuned its still a V6 which never sound good to begin with. 2: KIA for the AU market should of developed the Hyundai 5.0 "Tau" V8 engine for the Stinger, but someone in KIA HQ thought a V8 Stinger would not sell, well we know that a Twin Turbo V6 did not sell in big enough numbers either. 3: the transmission even with paddle shifters still does not allow drivers to hold gears even with the calibration update the transmission will still shift up gears when what you really want to keep the downshifted gear. 4: QLD Police hated driving them, many Highway police have reported that the Stingers were not up to the task. 5: Genesis still sells there "sedan" based version so at least you can still get that combo for the time being. and finally KIA name/branding, big mistake slapping on the KIA badge for our market, even the home market its has ZERO KIA badges on it. BONUS: The north American market got AWD, the lame reason why we did not was simply due to the RDH based steering rack not being designed for AWD because again someone in KIA forgot to allocated a budget for it. LAME DUCK.
People are very salty, that the Kia and Hyundai are killing the game. Your getting a lot of car for the money. Great carpet quality, great paint, great engine. This car is German designed.
Another bad decision by Kia. They never marketed the car well enough in Australia, if they had , sales would have been better. I can only hope a sleek looking electric version is on the cards.
@@nigelsmith3247 - don't insult people because they disagree with you, I am 6 foot 2 and I hated sitting in the back seat of the Stinger, door opening too narrow and that coupe esq curve looks good but again you have to do gymnastics to be able to get in and get out of that rear passenger doors. Just a poor design, not well thought out at all.
The kia name just lets them down . Just like hyundai . They dumped their first junk on the country and the brands never came back . They arnt bmws or mercs thats for sure .

If it was a couple 2 door it would have been a seller. But a sedan these days no matter if it’s 1000 kw it’s seen as a sedan, look at all the Euro big heavy sedans 2nd hand they don’t have a resale value. Cheers mate 🇦🇺
Got mine
good stuff
Have to stick with the baby Stinger the Cerato GT.
I’m keen to try one eh
How about the 2.5 stinger?
Never tried one before
Does it do a fat skid?
It will..
Good video, you’d get mid-high 4s if you used the launch control feature properly but good video nonetheless.
It’s very quick! Definitely a high 4 is achievable
I guess it's sad but probably the stinger will become something collectable in the future?? But nice fast car that has the best of both worlds.
Does anyone know why they are not going to make them anymore? Serious question. I was was thinking about getting one.
Not enough sales I think 🥲
I clicked your drive link and am buying a used Stinger for my son lol it's a farkin good car!

@@RossReviewsau i would if i could afford to😥
No. It's too late in England. My car lease ended in April and I asked the leasing company to get me a Stinger but Kia had pulled them by then. I'm gutted.
🥲 all the good cars are dead or dieing
Have they not been saying they're gonna kill the stinger for the last three years???
They killed off this kia stinger so that you are left with the genesis g80 as an option.
Why would people buy a g80 which cost 2x more with basically the same power output? Performance?
The g80 is based off the stinger or vice versa.
So it makes sense to kill off the stinger n get buyers to buy the g80.
Why would u buy a camry that has same power output and performance as a lexus priced 2x more right?
Same power, same performance ?
thats true but G80 is much more money :(
There isn't many new performance cars in that price range, which is a shame.
Completely true and all that were around before are quickly going away 😢
All good until something goes wrong mechanics hate these things
That’s true.. I don’t know the what they are like to work on
Stinger or RCF ? Ross have you ever driven a Lexus RCF ? From a reliability and availability point of view they are looking attractive
I would love to try an RCF unfortunately haven’t been able to yet…
@@RossReviewsau Plenty on market not moving , prices are coming down , value prop they are looking really good.
I really like the sporty interior 👍
It’s beautiful inside
Will be classic in 20 years
I don’t doubt it
I have a 2018 model Stinger GT
Such an amazing, beautiful and sleek car.
How about the 2.5 stinger?
@@GoogleAccount-pt4zu so you’re from Australia then?
Great car. Chose the i30n sedan instead. Bigger inside and more fun on the Twisties
I30N is a good competitor (manual) but I feel like this is a little nicer inside and handled better but i will absolutely agree the i30n is more fun
Is this faster than an Evo X ?
Stock??? Straight line maybe.. anything else doubtful
Stinger is one best drivers car by far. M3 c63 should be worried you pay twice as much yet stinger is if not better. Aresome aresome car.
Was a great car shame discontinued
Real motor enthusiasts buy what makes them excited to drive.
great car....shame will be the last
very sad
I wont be in the market for a new car until 2024, so just peachy Kia is ending the Stinger this year. The GT1 was at the top of my list. Damn you SUV’s & EV’s. 😢
I've seen the tribute addition on UA-cam
much extra?
@@RossReviewsauonly 1000 made globaly I think
5: Genesis still sells there "sedan" based version so at least you can still get that combo for the time being.
and finally
KIA name/branding, big mistake slapping on the KIA badge for our market, even the home market its has ZERO KIA badges on it.
BONUS:
The north American market got AWD, the lame reason why we did not was simply due to the RDH based steering rack not being designed for AWD because again someone in KIA forgot to allocated a budget for it.
LAME DUCK.
How come they don't made anymore?
didnt sell enough i guess
People are very salty, that the Kia and Hyundai are killing the game. Your getting a lot of car for the money. Great carpet quality, great paint, great engine. This car is German designed.
i wont lie.. this car was VERY GOOD
Fake bonnet vents says it all..
Another bad decision by Kia. They never marketed the car well enough in Australia, if they had , sales would have been better. I can only hope a sleek looking electric version is on the cards.
It’s sad to see it go.. definitely was not marketed correctly
Unfortunately the stinger is not designed for anyone over 6'2" tall , no head room which puts it out for me ever.
that is a fair point i guess.. im just under 6ft
I’m 6’4 and have no problem fitting in mine.

Just a poor design, not well thought out at all.

@@RossReviewsau I have loved the idea of this car since it was a focal piece of 2017. I had the chance to decorate one GTSpec for my best friends wedding...sway bars holding on to wedding streamers...my heart broke as I stared knowing I'd never own one but the imperious nature of a South Korean car manufacturer to take on the Mercedes (which I love) and BMW (which I also love) dominant market of powerful family sedans gave me hope for the future of cars..and now that it is gone, my hear aches for the future of motoring...that we despite new GT GRMN 86 and 300KW Z models...we may never see the best lesser manufacturers have to offer...such as the full spec GT Stinger in all it's fuck you glory.

U must’ve hopped in the cheapest model
i cant comment on reliability but this was honestly a really tight feeling car.. was premium to me
WTF, theres no way you think the Kia has poor build quality. It literally feels like a bmw 3/4 series inside with hints of mercedes and audi.

@@streetheat3366 I own an F80 m3 and my partner owns the refreshed stinger gt. I assure you that the quality of the cabin (maybe with the exception of the radio controls) is up to par. @@kaoru1244 you’re actually delusional then and literally proved your own point. This is a budget sports luxury car which offers solid performance and a good platform for modifying. To get the same performance from an Audi you’d have to get an S5 and they retail close to twice the price bro lmao
@@kaoru1244 this performs better than the S5 is most scenarios and is a far better choice for the money 🤣 if anything it shows how stupidly overpriced all the euro sedans which this competes with are
@@kaoru1244 bruh literally look up Audi S5 vs Stinger GT a lot of people who review the car says the stinger feels more like a 420hp car vs the 370hp it has. Besides from a stage 1 tune like we did on my uncles stinger we got it close to 450hp which meant low 4s to 100. That’s fast for a RWD touring sedan. So yes it’s easy to modify on and get more power
Here in America, The 2023 Kia Stinger GT2 is well known to have 450h.p. As Kia down rates these cars when they imported them to America so that "they" didn't have to pay the: "Gas Guzzler Tax". So, in short a 2023 GT2 Stinger, makes 450 H.P. At the Crank.
The GT2 has the same engine as the Tribute. No off the lot Stinger has 450HP. That's Aston Martin territory.
