Still not clear to me.. I'm about to buy a new tv. I think first without soundbar. But when I would like to get ATMOS-sounf in the future.. Would I have to buy a tv with "eARC",... or can a tv with only ARC be a good choice.. ??
I ask this because a phlips 855 oled (2020 year) is also on my list.. and this tv has NO eARC !!
The Sony A8H oled has eARC... and the panasonic HZ1000 also has eARC.. And the lcd on my list, the sony XH9505 and the Samsung Q90T also have eARC.
But,.. do I have to put the Philips Oled of my list... ?? I had it somewhere on the top of the list !!
Is it possible with most soundbars to connect the tv-signal first on the soundbar and then pass it throught the hdmi earc to the tv.. So, is there a way around with the philips oled without eARC !?

Hello Kussie76, so sorry for replying this late. Did not see you question until today.
I believe your TV has support for Dolby Digital, but not for Digital Plus, So it will do surround, but no Atmos. The problem with the Sonos Arc is that is lacking a second HDMI Input, else you could bypass this issue with an external source. If your TV is still working fine, but you really want Atmos, then I suggest looking into other Soundbars with more connection possibilities.

hi i have a question, If your TV is ARC and soundbar is eARC can you still get Dolby True HD or atmos? While I do still get atmos through Dolby Digital Plus but wanted to know if there's still a way to get full atmos, or Dolby True HD considering TV is not eARC. Been checking on some ways to somehow convert ARC port of TV to eARC but no luck yet. My TV is Sony X-80H and soundbar is Sony HT-X500. Was completely surprised to learn that TV is not eARC, otherwise i would have gotten a different model. Being a 2020 model I assumed the X80H already is eARC, turns out its not.

Hey Bruce, thank you for your interesting question. I am pretty sure that a lot of people are struggling with the same issue.
The bad news is, that there is no way to convert an ARC port into eARC. The good news is, that if you mainly use streaming services (Netflix, Disney…) to watch movies, then you will get the same quality as on a TV with HDMI eARC. Because these streaming services encode Atmos using Dolby Digital Plus.

Unfortunately I do not have any hands on experience with this particular soundbar, since it its not available in my region, but it clearly says ‘ARC’ on the HDMI port so it should work. I don’t think the cable is the problem, especially if it is an HDMI 2.0 cable. Also seems to me that you made all the right settings in your TV, except for maybe adjusting the audio output setting of your TV to ‘audio device’, but I guess you did that too?
Are you from Malaysia? Have you tried looking for answers in any of the local forums, to see if anyone else questions the ARC function of this soundbar. It is possible of course, that it is a hardware or compatibility issue. In that case you are better off using the optical connection. Anyway, I do not think this soundbar supports Dolby Digital Plus, so by not using HDMI, you will not miss out on sound quality. It is only a convenience issue, in that you will have to separately turn the soundbar on and off and adjust the volume with its own remote. According to the few reviews I read, it is a very good sounding soundbar and that is what matters most.
Good luck and let me know if you find a solution. Have a great weekend and best regards, Yuri

Funnily enough, the only dropouts I have had so far, due to HDMI cabling, actually occured with premium priced cables. With moderate priced cables, I never had any issues. If you have access to Amazon, just pick anything with current specs and a good number of positive consumer ratings. Don't worry too much if the price seems too low as this does not seem to matter much with HDMI cables. In case changing out the cable did not help, you could check for corrosion at the input/outputs of your gear, although that is quit rare.

      @@Cheezwizzz Hey John
I like the Sony STR-DH790, it's one of the best sounding AV-Receivers within it's price range.
According to the Sharp TV Manual there is not much out of the ordinary and I guess you did everything right: > Connect the cable that’s attached to the sound bar to the HDMI / ARC port on the TV. > Turn on the sound bar by pressing the Power button. > Press the [MENU] button on your remote and go to System > CEC Function. > Turn on the CEC Control setting. > Turn on the ARC setting. 6. Press the [MENU] button on you remote and go to Audio > Advanced Audio Settings > TV Speaker& ARC. Set it to ARC first.
What I couldn't find in the manual is, if there is an option to set Digital Audio Out to AUTO, instead of just RAW or PCM. That could do the trick as well in case swapping out the HDMI cable did not.
Anyway, after scrolling through some forums I realized that numerous people have issues with ARC/eARC audio dropouts, I think there are still a lot of compatibility issues, probably caused by the copy protective software.
If you are using the internal Apps on your TV to play content, you could also use the optical out connection, although this would mean sacrificing on sound quality. But if you play content from a Blu-ray player or a streaming device, like for example an Apple TV, the best workaround is to connect your source device to the AV-Receiver and the HDMI out of the Receiver to your TV. This will also give you the best sound quality, since the signal doesn't have to go through the TV first.
Good luck and best regards, Yuri

If you only watch Dolby Atmos content from streaming services, such as Netflix or Disney+, then it usually doesn’t matter, as longs as your TV is compatible with Atmos/Dolby Digital Plus over its ARC port. If you are planning to connect an external player, capable of Dolby True HD and DTS:X, to the TV and pass the audio through the TV, then you will need eARC. @@marcellomarcucci3348 No problem, your English is fine. Love Italy, it's just a couple of hours away from where I live. If you are currently using an eARC compatible TV , then I would definitely suggest upgrading your HDMI cable to something with High Speed specs, it doesn't have to an expensive one, just pick something with decent customer ratings on amazon. If you have a hard time deciding which one to pick, just write me back and let me know your budget and desired length, so I could give you some recommendations.

@@YuriBrus I have an economic 4k tv with 2 hdmis: hdmi 2 (E arc) and hdmi1. I have a ps4 pro and I am using the hdmi cable of my ps4. Can i continue using this cable. Which one hdmi should i use? Hdmi 2 earc or hdmi 1? I care only about input lag.

@@marcellomarcucci3348 The cable that was supplied with the PS4 should be good enough. If your only concern is the response speed of the controller, then it should not matter if you use HDMI port 1 or 2. Have you noticed any difference?

Dear Sir, I want to connect a Soundbar which has a hdmi input signal from a Fire stick/tv box/game console and pass through 4k HDR video via hdmi e-arc/arc output(thru soundbar) to a 4k Monitor which has hdmi 2.0 input, is this connection possible and will the 4k Monitor works and function similar to a TV hdmi e-arc/arc input? I am asking this question to everyone and see if this setup is possible, apparently nobody talks about it, please kindly help.

Hello and thank you for your question. In my opinion that should work fine. The only thing that will probably not work is audio return from the monitor. However, if you connect your source devices directly to the soundbar, then this is no problem.
