This is my first time watching one of your videos, and I must say your presentation is one of the best I've seen. Your deep voice pitch and the clear, precise speech is a blessing to my hearing disability. Also, the articulate and passionate way you review was refreshing and mesmerizing. Thank you. I grabbed this one from the library.
Wow Karen, you have no idea how much your comment just warmed my heart. It really means a lot. Hope you enjoy Spear when you get an opportunity to read it.
Thanks for the shout out my man. So happy you loved this piece of "ART" as much as I did.(love that choice of word) This review was excellent my friend and you know I love that hat!!G⚡D 💪. Cheers.
I’m so glad I found this channel. You talk about books with so much passion. I love Spear Cuts as well. Took some time for me to get used to the second person but there is a purpose to the pov. I was surprised by how super dark it was at times because the book cover says otherwise.
Thank you so much Sarah! I really appreciate that. I was shocked how dark it got as well. Definitely brings to meaning to "don't judge a book by its cover." Glad you loved it too!
Wow your passion has me so hyped to try this out. “So they left these stories because this is what’s left of their legacy”- beautifully put! Sounds so narratively unique and special 💪
I can’t stop recommending this book. I read it earlier this year and I was just in awe of how creative of a writer Simon Jimenez is. I don’t read as much as i would like, but I just can’t remember the last time I was speechless at somebody’s ability to interweave and guide you through a very complex and layered story so well. I’m still in awe.
Thank you for your beautiful thoughts on this book. I am now more excited than nervous about reading it. Ever since I read "Piranesi" for the first time I have been searching for books with a similar atmosphere, or books that are vastly unique.
I love how you were able to connect part of the book with part of your childhood. It really helps the connection to the book and makes for a great review! I've heard others speak glowingly of the book so I'll add it to my list. I love the idea of 'acid fantasy'.
Loved hearing how your story connected with this story. Can't lie a little worried about the cannibalism. But I ordered the Inkstone special edition! 💜
Wow, I have seen quite a few gush reviews of this book now, but yours beats them all. This was such a passionate and soulful review, I loved hearing you praise this story. After falling in love with The Vanished Birds, I have been dying to get to Spear. Just saving it for the right time, I don't want to ruin a potential new favourite by reading it in the wrong mood. Also, I had no idea this had queer representation, we love to see it! Fantastic review, I can't wait to read it myself this year 🤩
Thank you Esmay! I can't wait to read The Vanished Birds. It'll definitely be on my TBR for this year. If I like it as much as Spear, Jimenez will surely become one of my favorite authors.
So this is why you haven't been answering my badgering questions about your thoughts and whether you finished! It makes me so happy that you loved it! "The flower was cut from the stem. Its red petals strewn." Now that you mention it, the comparison to Susanna Clarke is spot on! Jimenez and Clarke both, while still being distinct and identifiably theirs, shift their writing styles to compliment and enhance the story being told in each work they write. Spoiler discussion now? 😜
The Power of your reviews is in the Emotional and Personal truth that you bring to them. This shit was, in the words of Tuco Salamanca, "Tight Tight Tight!" That out of the way, I wonder how you'll like The Vanished Birds. Johanna from @johannareads liked Birds more than Spear but thought that Spear was likely the better book. In any case, Jimenez is such an original author, that I'll probably read anything he puts out. This means I have to get my hands on The Spear Cuts Through WaterASAPp!
Wow, thank you Bart! That means a lot. I hope you enjoy Spear as much as Vanished Birds. He's also going to be an auto-read author for me. His prose is too good.

Appreciate that Dan! I see why it was your book of the year.

Thank you Ben! I hope you enjoy it when you read it.
I just bought this book on your recommendation, Darko. Brilliant review, my friend.
Thank you so much Pat! I’d be really interested in your thoughts when you get around to reading it.
Well said! It's a wild book that definitely deserves multiple reads, and you made me want to read it all over again.
Thank you Robin! Yes, this is definitely one I look forward to revisiting.
The spear cuts through water was my first five star of the year
Glad you enjoyed it Alicia! Definitely a five star read for me as well.

Thank you for your kind words. Piranesi is one of my favorite most recent reads. This definitely checks the box for uniqueness. Worth a try.

Beautifully done Dark-O great explanation I’m nearly done myself. I’m so glad you enjoyed this book, I’ve been enthralled by it. 😊

I keep hearing so many good things about this book. Thanks for another really thoughtful review Dark-O!
Thank you Chas!
Loved hearing how your story connected with this story. Can't lie a little worried about the cannibalism. But I ordered the Inkstone special edition! 💜
Thank you! Jimenez can get pretty gruesome, but the way he writes makes it not as visceral as other authors.
Hi Darko, just subscribed after watching u on for Whom the Bell Tolls, loved your one for the road 😎
Hi Dubh! Thank you so much! I really appreciate that.
Nice review. Jimenez is definitely making it to my TBR pile at some point.
Thank you so much!
Wholeheartedly agree, it was so good I had to read it twice!
It is that good! Can’t wait to read it again.

😆 You got me! Glad you agree on the Clarke comparison. You are absolutely spot on. Haha always down for a spoiler discussion.
It is on my stack you make me want to grab it much sooner than later Thanks!
Appreciate it John! Hope you enjoy it.
