  • In this video, I talk about the myth of staying inside the baseball. These conventional instructors think that as long as you are working on your swing, nothing can go wrong. Let me tell you, they are making hitters worse with this instruction. Just look at the MLB hitters who work on this. Long term they get worse.

He's simply saying don't extend your back elbow prematurely and cast the hands and get around the ball The videos you show of hitters with extended front arms still have their rear elbow tucked against their side and are attacking from the inside out. You say, "this doesnt happen and hes selling a lie". Well, yeah... at the highest level of hitters it doesn't, becaue they wouldn't be at the highest level if they were casting their hands badly and swinging around the ball. I can show you a whole gaggle of 12 year old park and rec kids that will show you that this stuff absolutely can happen in a swing.

Nice quality. Camera looks really good. All its going to take is exposure for your theory to take off.

The move he is demonstrating not to do looks like it would square the barrel up much easier than a super "stay inside the ball" swing

The reason this "around the baseball" is discussed is because of the view or theory that's being taught (plus using light bats). A byproduct of start with the hands, push the top hand, and keep the shoulders closed. So it's actually a thing for younger kids because they start pushing their hands away from their body. It's only a problem because of the disconnection that's taught.

I agree. These new school coaches are trying to reinvent the wheel. It’s so annoying.

Id love to see you try to hit a baseball and demonstrate this swing. I'm always skeptical when someone talks about what to do but never shows they can actually duplicate it.

@thestretchbasedathlete He wouldn't even need to swing full power to demonstrate what he's talking about. Instead, he just talks in the camera, shows swings from the pros, and rambles on about Griffey Jr ..... very little context.

Joe Murray is angry :). Is division one 1st team all conference not a high level? Is coaching World Series MVPs not coaching at a high level? Dude, please, I've done it all when it comes to the swing. And honestly I don't care about those accomplishments. I care about promulgating the understanding of the swing that I now have.

The reason people say stay inside the baseball is to teach young hitters to keep their hands close to their bodies. This allows for a faster swing.

It’s basic science. You ever seen the video of a teacher holding two hammers and spinning in a chair? If he extends his arms out fully, he slows down, if he holds them close to his body, he speeds up. Same is true when hitting

@@theswingmechanicthe fact that your replies are just emojis make me think that you don’t know what you are talking about. Have you even played at a pro level? If not, then I’m not taking hitting advice from you.
Any hitter who played at least college baseball knows that you keep your elbow close to your body as you swing. Look at side views of ANY mlb hitter. At contact, their back elbows all are right next to their bodies.
You are arguing with one of the basic laws of momentum. You are incredibly ignorant of you think you know more about this than pro players

@@theswingmechanic You're facepalming because you and him both have a misunderstanding of each other. You're talking past each other instead of trying to listen. You personally want to see a long front arm extension, so you think hands need to be away from the body. That is true during the load/stretch phase. Your favorite guy, Ken Griffey Jr., extended the sh*t out of his front arm because he basically steps away from his hands for his stretch. The guy you're facepalming here is thinking hands close to the body in terms of close to the axis of hip/shoulder rotation when turning. During the turn into the zone, Ken Griffey Jr's front arm comes across his chest and his hands come back close to his body (can see at 1:55) because his rear arm is still tucked and the barrel comes through more inside than out. His rear arm isn't straight until the follow through. The guy in the video you are criticizing is simply saying don't let your rear arm extend early in your swing causing you to cast your hands around the ball.
