Thanks for sharing this vibrant video of old Shanghai streets. Streets in China are filled with such quiet, peaceful, and comfortable life vibes, without drugs, homelessness, rats, zero-cost shopping scams, and the proliferation of firearms. There's no littering or public defecation, and these democratic values are truly admirable.
Recently I learnt China allows travellers 144 hours transit stay in some cities include Shanghai. I believe also Shenzhen and other big cities. Shanghai definitely is easily ‘adaptable’ to international travellers thus good choice for transit .
I was at Shanghai in 2020 for my last destination tour (Yunnan Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-la -> Hunan Zhangjiajie -> Xian -> Shanghai). I stayed at apartment hotel about 300 hundred meters away from Xintiandi. Hope to visit Xintiandi again in near future.
It's a very good introduction to Shanghai. It has been more than 10 years since my last visit. I missed the city so much. Plan to visit again next month since no visa is required now for Malaysian.
In addition to Shanghai, there are also 1, 2, 3 and even 4 and 5 tier cities such as Hangzhou, Suzhou, Ningbo, Nanjing, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Guangzhou, etc. The urban development in mainland China is very good, even in the fifth tier cities.
Wow, the staff at that bakery took off his gloves to put your buns into your bag. Amazing. I live in North America and staff at stores usually handle food and money with the same pair of gloves on. That guy in Shanghai should be given a raise!
I like Xin Tian Di too but it was quite expensive even years ago. I prefer Beijing to be honest, a mix of modern and ancient buildings in the same area makes the place very interesting and attractive 😊. Thanks for showing us round Shanghai anway!
Foreign visitors to China easily fall into two groups: some prefer Shanghai because it is easier to adopt, and the other prefer Beijing because it offers "more authentic Chinese vibes". Your verdict puts you in the second group.
Meanwhile in Some Western high streets, it’s boarded up, emptied & damages windows from looters & in USA supermarkets are closings in some cities, due to Blatant GRAB & Carry (no payment required) shopping.... 😂
If you don't mind, I sincerely hope you can change the term '法国租界' (French Concession) to '前法国租界' (Former French Concession) because even local Shanghai residents do not commonly refer to that area as the 'French Concession' in their daily lives. Of course, how you choose to refer to it is your prerogative.
@@fenxian I'm a local too. I grew up by the Huangpu River. As a native of Huangpu District, we don't refer to it that way. In the environment I grew up in, no one has ever called that area the French Concession. We only say 'This used to be the French Concession.' It's okay if you don't mind, it's your choice.
What a lovely aesthetically pleasing place. Looks cosmopolitan - something for everyone. Can see why shanghai is a very popular place. Great, amazing quality video Lee, love how dynamic and versatile your video's are. 😊
I always wanted to return to Shanghai. This video has whetted my appetite to go again. I'm disappointed that China has not included visa waver program to the UK passport holders, but only to the Germans,French, Spanish, Italians and to the Malaysians.
@@BarrettYT Not that many years ago the UK media was quite friendly towards China. I still remember the BBC series "The Story of China" with Michael Wood.
Colonies: where people were treated like second class citizens in their own countries. Europeans have a completely different perspective since they were the colonial masters.
For those followers who live in one of those western countries, one of the most common questions would be: where is the homeless people? Short answer is there is none. This might be a bit hard to understand for you fellas, but China is a what you call "communist country" or "socialist country" as it calls itself, it means China is not as "free" as you are in your country, including you don't have the freedom to be a homeless. If you camp or sleep on the street like you do in Los Angeles, social workers and police will come to rescue and put you into one of those temp centers and call your families. They even manage to give you a job.
I watched a street cleaner in Folkestone, Kent and as he went along tidying the street, people were walking past where he'd just been, randomly dropping rubbish.
That ice cream cone looked delicious! And the cascading water on the wall behind the ice cream server looked awesome whether that was actually water or just a visual effect ~
That depends on where you reside and come from if you visit Shanghai, if you are from Canada or Russian, Shanghai is balmy even in December, normally the coldest of the year. If you are from tropic places such as Malaysia, well, Shanghai winter can be a bit chilly this time of the year.
Good morning, Lee. in this video, one can see the French architecture, aromatic baguettes, mouth-watering ice cream, rich wines and even an oversized Santa. But alas, where are the authentic Emmanuel and Brigittes'. Are there any French population still living in this area ? Thank you, Lee, for just the light and fun video for Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
@0:58, many people ignorant of the history of the Foreign Quarters in China, especially in Shanghai call these neighborhoods with Western European architect quaint, beautiful, and exquisite. Those who have read the history of the Foreign Quarters know of an uglier dimension hidden within these buildings. Foreign Quarters such as as the Bund were sectors inhabited by the Western White Europeans, the Chinese were banned except as laborers. Within these sectors the Western White Europeans established a sovereign governance with its own police, army, laws, court, business, and politicians. Essentially, Apartheid in China. While the America passed the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1898, the Western White Europeans enacted and enforced Apartheid laws against the Chinese in China.

Let me tell you a story you never heard of. Once upon a time my Shanghai girlfriend boost what French mansion her great grandfather used to own but it was confiscated by the Communists. Little did she know my Beijing girlfriend knew nothing about that because she never needed to pay attention to some girls from Shanghai. What’s more, I tried to talk to their sons in California and London to return to their moms while my next girlfriends send their kids to Australia and Belgium.
@@songbai2322perhaps, these Hollywood writers are hired by Genocide Joe. Many of them were on strike months ago so they are probably in dire need of work.
I actually really appreciate the street cleaners. Rather than using loud machinery they used the old school broom that’s quiet and no disturbance.
You talking about the annoying leaf blowers? That blows trash on you as you drive by 🙄
