    That's actually pretty impressive that he managed to track down Steve Bartman. That dude practically disappeared after that game 6. There were a ton of journalists and angry fans looking for this guy and no one could ever get him to come forward.

      Well I think it was more like Dan merely got over the prank call between he and Captain Janks fairly well, and forgave him for by the time 2013 rolled around. That considering it was a whole decade after that incident happened, while it was then something he was able to take it in stride and laugh about as time went on. But I don't think Dan was exactly in a good, joking mood when it first occurred, considering how he was the one who thought he actually got that exclusive, coveted interview with Bartman, only for it to explode in his face. That of which must have given him some serious egg on when he got totally punked by Janks too! (L.O.L.!)

    Public humility is a big part of why Dan is still relevant...being fun doesn't hurt either.

      "Accident?" 😉 (L.O.L.!) But all kidding aside, the fact that the prank caller (Janks) seemed just way to calm, and casual during the bogus interview for what Bartman was going through after the incident should have been the most obvious hint that things weren't as they seemed, and that there was no way it was possibly him at the time for that matter also. Even I would have known something wasn't quite right had if I watched it live (which I didn't), while also having absolutely not even the slightest idea who Captain Janks was at the time as well.

    I PUNKED CAPT JANKS.
    Yep. That email exchange was between ME POSING AS BARTMAN BY EMAIL and that little poser Capt Janks! Once he told me he wanted to perpetrate a prank phone call on air to a sports show, I fed him enough info to lend credibility and hooked him in.
    The clincher is that I'm an ND alum, and I knew Bartman tangentially. So the ND info I gave Janks hooked him, just like The Sting.
    When I heard the prank call on SportsCenter, I couldn't stop laughing>>AT CAPT JANKS!
    Then I kept it under wraps for years waiting for the right moment. When I became aware of that ESPN was working on a 30 for 30 called Catching Hell on the Bartman incident, I contacted ESPN and told them all about the Janks phone call "prep", and told them I SET UP CAPT JANKS BY PRETENDING TO BE BARTMAN.
    Much to my surprise, they showed the prank phone call, but failed to include my info about setting Capt Jenks up posing as Bartman! I think they were embarrassed they in essence got double punked, so they left that part out of the 30 for 30. I also called the DP show after this anniversary show with Janks peacocking about his call, and told Paulie that I was the one who pranked Janks by posing as Bartman, and his mind was so turned into a pretzel and didn't want DP to fall for another prank, that he didn't want to put me on air even though he was intrigued!
    So CAPTAIN JANKS>>I KNOW STEVE BARTMAN, AND YOU ARE NO STEVE BARTMAN!
    YOU'VE BEEN PUNKED BUTTCHEESE!!

    I don't buy for a second that this Stern flunkie talked or corresponded with Bartman who encouraged him to prank Sportscenter. Bartman was trying to stay away from all attention and I don't see that as part of his personality.

    • @Kris-ox5pm
      @Kris-ox5pm 4 роки тому +11

      What are you, his boyfriend? How the fuck would you know his personality?

    • @freakyfornash
      @freakyfornash 2 роки тому +1

      Maybe so, even if Steve Bartman also could have perhaps seen working with Captain Janks as a much needed opportunity to get people off his back, after what he was going through at the time. That while giving him a bit of humor to lighten his mood in a desperate moment when his life was very well on the line after the numerous death threats he received. But it maybe even could have been a close friend, and/or a family member of Bartman's who gave Janks that personal info of his for all we know back then too.

    • @cdf360
      @cdf360 2 роки тому +2

      This isn't a "Stern flunkie," this is Captain Janks. He's the greatest prank caller ever. If he can fake his way on to TV, why wouldn't he be able to reach Bartman? Regardless of that point, this whole thing seems unnecessary to lie about tho. What's Janks motive for making that up? It doesn't seem unbelievable or anything. I take it as fact, and I think freakyfornash makes a sound point that holds weight

      The giveaway is he said he didn't talk to him on the phone, he exchanged EMAILS with him supposedly. Bullcheese. No way could he confirm it really was Bartman he was emailing. Surprised Patrick didn't try pinning him down more on that. So we are supposed to believe that the most sought after guy in the sports world in 2003/04 couldn't be tracked down by anyone for an interview, yet ONE person did track him down by email, told him he wanted to prank ESPN, and Bartman went along with it.
      Done by email, not a PHONE CALL from the PRANK PHONE CALL EXPERT!
      Not buying it. IF this email exchange actually even happened, its much more likely Capt Janks himself was getting punked.
      You know how I know all this?
      Because I was the one who punked that poser Capt Janks. I exchanged emails with him posing as Bartman, setting Capt Janks up.
      I PUNKED CAPT JANKS!!
      BOOYAAAHH!
