- Honda Transalp | I had never seen a Tansalp in person before today. I was happy when the owner asked me if I would like to tait for a test ride. Having ridden the Tuareg and Tenere, I was intersted to see how the Honda stacked up. - Frank

What can you say, it’s a Honda always landing on middle ground on design. Letting the owner have an enjoyable dependable ride. The build quality with there bikes out of Japan are top level. You did a great job with the video! Love the channel
Hello Chris, thank you for the kind words. It's a testament to Honda as a company that you know that you are getting a forever bike with a Honda. Not the fastest, not the flashiest, but a good solid bike you can enjoy without much concern. - Frank
You are in good company confirming what the other big time youtubers have stated about this bike. A nice on road touring bike that works decently in the dirt with all of the available accessories.
Hello Rob, its close to being an AMAZING road/gravel touring bike. But those tubes and lack of cruise hurt it so much. - Frank
Never seem those handguards before and I like them.
Hello Human, Chris has done a nice job of decking out the bike for sure. - Frank
I test rode it. A great machine. In white it looks even better. I see that you were pretty surprised how good it is. Shame for the cruise control and the center stand. The later is just an option, but the cruise is not even an option. All other this are great in my opinion. Those interested can check my test ride video. Great video Frank. Enjoyed. Cheers. Take care.
Hello Gregor, Veridian Cruise in Canada has a $300 (USA) or so option for CC for the Transalp. Which is a pretty decent option, and one I would certainly go with. I agree with you, the EU color options are superior. I cannot imagine why we only got flat black... - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding I see. There are some color differences around the world. I don't see any reasons for that. :)
The bike looks just great and I love the high exhaust
The Transalp is very comfortable. The bike has a bunch of good stuff that he put on it.
Hello Andrew, I think that it's a winner from the engine and comfort standpoint. However, Verbal Widget hit the nail on the head for the paint job... "Rattle Can Primer black." - Frank
Hello, Chris has done a great job farkling it for adventuring. All he needs now is a tubeless conversion! 😊 - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding Please disregard the Widget guys comments. I grew up in a time when Japanese manufactures listened to their customers and had factory race teams striving for cutting-edge technology over other factories, in speed, handling and new farkles every year whether we ask for them or not. But these days the engineers are as content as Japanese snow monkeys, basking in the hot springs on a cold winter's day, doing nothing as other manufactures out pace their 30 year old designs, and buyers devouring the rubbish faster than Biden with ice cream.
You are probable right Andrew. I expected a mini Africa twin.
Of course it's a smooth engine, it's Japanese engineering and built not one of those European rattle traps that spontaneously combusts in the woods. 😁
Very true! Though to be fair, there are smooth Europe bikes... Just not smooth KTMs! - Frank
I would like to see more adventure motorcycles that are in the seven fifty class category to start coming standard with cruise control. That's a sharp looking bike.
Hello Zac, I agree man. The engine has enough HP, and the bike enough wind protection to be a great cruising bike for a few day trip. Not having CC is a drawback for sure.
The good news is that Veridian Cruise offers a CC option for a reasonable price. - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding veridian cruise looks like a very solid fix. 👌
@@ADVzac Hello Zac, and its not too pricey. Just over what KTM charges to activate CC. - Frank
Great bikes 👍

I have to admit that I was expecting more from Honda on this bike. It looks to foofoo-ish like it would snap in half. Tube tires are a deal breaker for me. Honda put zero thought in the paint scheme. Paying $12k for rattle can primer looking black with black wheels. Boring! Nice review Frank.
"Rattle Can Primer" Man that's a deep cut! But accurate. 🤔
Honda really failed by not offering colors. - Frank
I’m sure the bike is tougher than it looks. 🤣
@@OneOldManRiding sorry Frank i didn’t mean to be rude. I looked and sat on one at my local dealers and was very disappointed with the entire package. I’m a Honda fanboy but didn’t care for anything about the bike. The Japanese manufacturers haven’t a clue or just don’t care what adventure riders want and need. Once again we are being fed lame street bikes with adventure bike decals.
@@vtrack1963 I think it’s AS tough as it looks. Honda’s “woke” marketing division must be proud.
@@verbalwidget7267You have hit it on point, I think. The market they seem to be after is the 95/05 street to dirt crowd. There are a lot of us out there. Not many ride them hard like you and OBI-WAN and DOC.
Bought a new Transalp last November have right 3000 miles on it. Aftermarket has not caught up with it yet and I gave up on the engine guards and skid plate I ordered thru my Honda dealer. Bought a set of lower and upper guards with the skid plate from SRC USA in Oregon and had them in a week for a lot less money than the OEM Honda parts. The electronic ride modes I'm not impressed with. Mine stays in the user mode all the time and it is a pain to turn off the traction control and the rear antilock brakes. I know how fast the Translap on a long straight 2 lane asphalt and it's a lot faster than you would think. But after riding a KLR 650 for years it was a huge step up!!!!!!
Ive had mine for a week, 600 km. No offroad yet since im also waiting for protection pieces to arrive. On the streets its a very sweet bike it puts a smile on my face and i feel very safe on it
@@jnano2071 Hello, I did not get to ride it on the road, but from the acceleration on dirt, and the balance, I bet its a dream in the corners! - Frank
Hello Gary, good to hear there are aftermarket options available. Chris did take a minute plus to turn off the ride features! I thought those days were behind us! - Frank
I'm really surprised you are considering the cfmoto 450 over the Transalp
They're nearly the same weight, but the Honda has dual front brakes, and the cfmoto cut corners to save weight, and it only has a single disc front brake.
Idk if I'd trust that.
If single front brakes were sufficient for a loaded down for camping adv bike (500+pound- conservative estimation) then all manufacturers would use single disc front brakes. But, they don't, they use dual brakes for a reason.

This or the 2024 ktm 790 adv?
I bought the 2024 KTM 790 Adventure. Better suspension, more power, better and easier to use electronics, cruise control, tubeless tires, & larger fuel tank for a better deal AND less money ($10990 MSRP, no freight or prep). I eliminated the Transalp quickly. It looked like too many corners were cut to lower the price. I thought the VStrom 800 DE was far superior to the Transalp.
@@vtrack1963 just test road it 1hr ago. I’m in Japan so the Honda is only 8k. But I think it has to be ktm for me
