MAD MAX THE WASTELAND Is Cancelled? (FURIOSA Sequel)

- Mad Max The Wasteland is cancelled? George Miller's Furiosa was a stunning film but sequel plans have been cancelled. The Mad Max The Wasteland movie, the Nux film and the return of Tom Hardy's Mad Max don't seem to be happening. What are your thoughts on the Furiosa box office and the next Mad Max movie being cancelled?
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is an upcoming post-apocalyptic action adventure film directed by George Miller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. It serves as both a spin-off and a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), as well as the fifth overall installment of the Mad Max franchise. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character Imperator Furiosa, with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, and Quaden Bayles in supporting roles.

MAD MAX THE WASTELAND Is Cancelled? (FURIOSA Sequel) - Розваги
Furiosa did not get off to a great start at the box office, making it hard for us to see another film in the Mad Max Saga. I discuss the chances of it ever happening and what a Mad Max The Wasteland film might be.
The character development really isn't there. Fury Road was the story of Max and Furiousa learning to work together. Furiousa lacked this underlying narrative and the only real character development was tied to Chis Hemsworths character.
Furiosa was amazing…. How is it not killing the box office.
People aren’t going to the movies like they used to.
Some movies you have to see in XD or IMAX. This is one of those movies.
people just aren’t going to the movies no more, none of the movies are doing well right now
It's a mixture of things I think like I said in the video. It really is a shame.
Why pay ridiculous prices when it will come to streaming in like a few weeks
I'm honestly sorry that this wonderful movie didn't do well at the box office. I think it's an amazing movie and tomorrow I'm going to see it for the 3rd time on imax.
Sweet!
I've seen it twice. I couldn't really afford to see it again (£18 ticket), but it had to be done. After a second viewing, I think it's a masterpiece.
I was put off when I saw the trailer before Dune: Part 2; I thought it looked like a series. But it's next level. If we don't see the wasteland again, I'd be bittersweet about that, but grateful I witnessed this epic film.
I saw Dune 2 also. Dune and Furiosa are the two best movies of the year so far. I don’t know about Alien Romulu. I’m worried about that one. Seeing Furiosa a second time sounds like a great idea.☺️
If you're a fan and want to see wasteland be made, put your money where your mouth is and see furiosa in theatres. Its an absolute spectacle. Hopefully word of mouth can reinvigorate it at the box office.
I’m going to … shame if wasteland doesn’t get made
@@Streetrocker28 100 percent hope they greenlight wasteland regardless
You can hope . But it ain’t gonna happen lol . Furisoa was the last mad max film . There will not be another one so don’t hold your breath . If there is by some miracle ; it won’t be for many many years and it won’t be directed by miller
I wish those people were smarter. Cause it looks like its too late.
But i can at least enjoy this soft reboot of the franchise and say with certainty that its Amazing.
"Enjoy what you have if you cant have more."
@@vickybruh7412 not necessarily, it was pretty close to breakeven at box. Depends on how it does on vod and streaming
For me this was the best action movie since Terminator 2. I see a lot of people wanting to see this fail thinking it's a Hollywood production girl boss movie, when it's an Australian film with an Australian production company that doesn’t have a girl boss at all. People need to see this, it's too great!
True, it’s not a girl boss movie like Captain Marvel, but an action movie with a very strong female character like Alien. It feels real and natural, not woke.
@@Suedetussy100% it’s a shame all these shitty girl boss movies kinda gave a bad wrap for any movie that now stars a female, it sucked mad mad wasn’t in the movie but it’s honestly so great it doesn’t change the fact that it was an amazing movie for me
@@user-jw3bz5js2z I agree for the most part. i can see why people would shy away from another "girl boss" movie based on all the crap coming out lately. but by no means is this movie "amazing". Fury road had way more depth and symbolism to it, which is why its a cult classic. furiosa is mostly a forgettable film but still a pretty fun watch while riding on the coat tails of fury road.
Without a doubt, hands-down great movie! The movie Studios, unfortunately only focus on the bottom dollar. Nowadays to go see a movie in the theater is really really expensive. A lot of people are gonna wait until it comes out on streaming unfortunately. My hope is that we do get mad Max, the wasteland, maybe even as a good way to close the series? Remember, Hope Springs eternal!!
Just make the next one low budget like the first Aussie Mad Max
Firstly, ALL the Mad Max films are Aussie, so im not sure why you're talking as if only the original was.
Secondly, it's physically not possible to do Mad Max without a lot of money these days. The reason the original Mad Max was so cheap is because it was filmed with gurella techniques, meaning no permits, no safety, and basically just using a bunch of cost cutting tricks that are against industry code and also massively illegal. Quite a few cast and crew got seriously injured for making Mad Max back in the day, many almost dying. It's no joke mate. The original could get away with that because it was rural Australia in the 70s and film laws were less strict, but nowadays if a new Mad Max attempted to do even half that stuff everyone would be arrested immediately.
Thirdly, even if we ignore the legal issues and high risk of death that comes with a low budget, I guarantee you almost nobody would want to see a cheap version of The Wasteland. People want more of that Fury Road insanity, and to swap that out for just normal car chases without all the wild imagery from the expensive films would only disappoint. It'd be a waste of time to not do it properly.
@@HOTD108_ Well the original and best was done on a shoestring matey and with the amount the latest blockbuster lost maybe they should go back to leaner ways
Yeah maybe a smaller budget is the only chance for Mad Max The Wasteland to be made.
@@DrBenjaminLinus I reckon mate
I keep hearing that the Wasteland is already in production. I hope so.
From where?
@@Elefanteazulll film vault podcast for one.
@@titiandSo some guy on the internet just making stuff up? Cool, that means nothing. Unless it's officially confirmed, it's just bs rumours.
@@HOTD108_ idk . . a popular media podcaster. . and filmmaker. so maybe carries some weight. of course it could be hopium but I wouldn't write it off just yet. . sometimes true art finds a way to survive.
Such a pity! Furiosa was such a great movie! I enjoyed it from the first to the last minute.
Furiosa is better than Fury Road…. I am going to watch it again….
No Max > Theatres are expensive > Streaming is a thing > films budgets have gone insane
If had Max people would give the excuse that is not Mel Gibson... always have some excuse, but if they see the movie...flock off if doesn't have Max or Mel, its a great flick
Fact is more and more people are downloading. They prefer to wait for the movie to be available on internet than spend money on a ticket at the cinema. At the end of the day, going to the movies has become a luxury that many can no longer afford. Here, in France, your average ticket sells for around 14 euros. That's not cheap, far from it !
So many just don't go to the movies anymore. Part of that is directiy Hollywoods fault. Films go to streaming so fast now. Why go to the theater when you can wait a couple months or less and watch it in the comfort of your own home. That and save tons of money. Its sad but I think theaters are slowly dying.
Loved Furiosa. I saw it again today.
Eating canned dog food is what I’d like to see
there s no way ,there wont be another mad max /goerge miller!!!no way..Furiosa was awesome..wanna slap all these haters with all their stupid CGI comments etc, instead of being gratefull..Thanks for the amazing Furiosa gift, sir Miller..
Agree fully! George Miller is a true artist. The more we can get, the better!!
You realise someone (a Studio) needs to fund making more movies, and that they won't do that unless they think they will be profitable. So, it is definitely "yes,.way". Another one looks pretty unlikely at this point -- and George Miller is no spring chicken.
Although I love Charlize Theron and definitely Tom Hardy, I note a massive departure from the original series, even the overdubbed Australian accent of Mel Gibson
Agree. And Gibson’s performance had some humor in it. That made a big difference in subsequent Mad Max’s.
I blame the marketing, flat out. Including the title. The trailers were TERRIBLE. Which was nice because we all got to be pleasantly surprised by the actual film. But the trailer itself seemed to be cut by chatGPT or something. It's such a dry, corporate cashgrab advertisement. Almost EXACTLY like the horrible marketing for Blade Runner 2049. And for the same reason, we're not getting anymore Denis Blade Runner films. Luckily, he got the Dune trilogy greenlit.
They should have called this film something like "Wasteland Wars: Furiosa", and left the "A Mad Max Saga" tag line in the trailer. Along with "...40 years in the making" or however long George has been working on it. But FAR more importantly, they should have put the entire "choose one warboy/YOU are awaited!!/WITNESS ME!!" scene in the trailer. That would have IMMEDIATELY sold the film to audiences. "...witness... the most epic war... in the history of the Wasteland... and the rise... of... her." Cut to "Who was that??" History Man: "That... was the darkest of angels. The 5th rider of the apocalypse." Title. Bang bang. Let's f🤬!
Wasteland wars furiosa ? …. No thanks
@@julianmitchell5776 did you actually see the movie? I said something like "Wasteland Wars: Furiosa" because it's it's closer to the actual film. Removing the "A Mad Max Saga" from the official title. Combined with my statement about the scene they should have put in the trailer. Which would have represented the real film. And gotten people hyped. You'll understand if you see the movie. Which is great. And completely undersold.
Denis could absolutely make another Blade Runner film at this point due to his reputation being even better now, but he won’t because everyone wants to work with him lol
@@SaberRexZealot I mean, he could... He can write his own ticket. But to make another BR, he'd probably have to capitulate something to the studios. To reboot Total Recall for the second time or something silly. But I highly doubt Denis has the drive to make another one. He got Dune. That was the top of his wishlist. And between that and all the other projects he's committed to, it wouldn't even happen for another 15 years. But with George Miller, there's nothing else we really want from him. That's his world. That's his baby. He never stopped raising and building it. And this is a deathblow to any kind of substantial future for it. And he's old. And we don't need anyone else getting their hands on it. At least we don't have to worry about that now.
But who knows... maybe a desperate platform will talk him into doing a prestige series instead of a sequel/prequel. The Blade Runner franchise is absolutely shot though. They even messed up the anime. How the hell do you mess up a Blade Runner anime?? It's THE IP that the most successful anime was based upon. And they do a 3D model PS2 graphics with the most zzzzz storyline ever?! 🤦
So basically the film didn’t perform how box office experts expected.
Waiting 10 yrs for a sequel (prequel) was a mistake.. that’s too long for a prequel and especially ditching the new cast, Tom hardy and charlize theron that really grabbed the audience was also a mistake. Furiosa was originally meant to be an anime and they probably should’ve stuck with that idea and also expand into other mediums like animation and video games to make it more mainstream and a constant thing out there and generate more money by cheaper and easier ways.. coz it’s still a cult thing that not a super popular franchise
I keep reading that the idea of the film is still in production, so i'm holding the hope that they'll release the wasteland someday
I think banking on a Furiosa prequel doing well enough to justify a sequel to Fury Road set it up for failure(and i liked Furiosa). Just like not getting a Batman Beyond movie with Keaton only if the Flash made money.
Very much enjoyed Furiosa, disappointed that it might be the final Mad Max.
The movie has major plot and narrative issues that are purely cinematographic ….. so is normal this film ain’t gonna do great , not sure why G Miller lowered the quality but what’s done is done
There are many factors that as to why movies don't do well at the theaters as of late, bad advertising, inflation (high ticket prices) and competitions from streaming services. However, the most important factor is word-of-mouth, and social-media has become the megaphone. Unfortunately, there's huge cult following of brooding social media personalities _(more negativity = more views)._ There were countless accusations of Furiosa being a Merry Sue by those whom never saw the movie. Additionally, the same UA-camr contrarians that saw and loved the movie, can't bring themselves to give it a proper review without resorting to smirks just to maintain *_'Street Creds.'_*
Furiosa was an excellent movie but like all the movies in the franchise it can stand independently to an extent. In Furiosa the director takes the genre into full myth mode. Its psychological issues are well addressed and it also incorporated CGI and came across like a comic book, built in episodic structure, with a touch of Rashomon. A completely new kind of movie for the Director and the franchise. Its a bad year for theatres people would rather stay home and watch. I have a feeling that with second and third screenings a deeper appreciation for Furiosa will develop. Like Thunderdome, Furiosa developed the universe and asked more philosophical questions, but it kept the same themes as all the other movies. I thought it hilarious that Mad Max was already a supporting character in Fury Road and was relegated to brief cameo in Furiosa. Like Athena, born from the forehead of Zeus, Furiosa springs forth into the Road Warrior Mythos. Mad Max’s character was always about exploring the inner darkness of revenge and redemption in the midst of savagery.
Hopefully it does well on digital sales. I regret not going to see it at the movies but bought it as soon as it hit prime. Furiosa was brilliant and I hope we get another Mad Max movie. I love the fact that they are expanding the world of Mad Max.
Even if this is George Miller final Mad Max film. We shall be thankful the he got to make the movies the way he envisioned and that he could share them with the world. Thank you George Miller.
Furious was real good sad that waste land aint happening he should of made wasteland before furiosa
Furiosa was OK, but I'd be really bummed if it's the last Mad Max film we get from George Miller.
Definitely not the last. The movie is just a classic masterpiece.
Huge fan of Mad Max: Fury Road but completely forgot the characters outside of Max after 9 years of waiting for the next entry, so I completely forgot who Furiosa was. Marketing was pretty garbage and felt like it was gonna be Hollywood sludge, bastardizing a beloved series but thankfully I was invited to go and quiet enjoyed it.
I loved to see a Chess player facing off against Thor whilest Venom is also there some time.
Maybe its just me but why does such a franchise need such overused actors.
Tom hardy still did a good job
This part ! Honestly I couldn’t take Anya seriously in this movie although she had some good moments
@@daphnegnd3889 so many fishes in 1 bowl and only the pretty ones get feed.
For a madmax movie i would cast less known actors with beauty defects non straight teeth scars or just a more rough look.
Like the original mad max 2
Furiosa was lit. But even if the furiosa flopped at box office, we need wasteland. Because the furiosa did not satisfy my thirst for action. I need mad max action with less story more chase action.
While I think Fury Road and even The Road Warrior are better films, this is still a welcome addition to the franchise and fleshed out an already awesome character. Did we need this? Maybe not. However, how they were able to tell this story made me love Furiosa as a character more.
The economy is awful. Honestly this is why it did not do well
It's not a shame at all! That's what George gets for making another MM with out Mel Gibson!😅
Anya was great as furiosa i hope it does better
Furiosa is a great movie. . All the Naysayers are going to miss out on a great event. It’s one of those movies you couldn’t miss! Especially on the big screen. Hope they make a trilogy!
If there is another Mad Max Saga, it should be after the first one cast and wanted to see
1 Dacre Montgomery as the lead
2 Alison Oliver as Co Lead of Dacre Montgomery wife
3 Christopher Abbott as Road warriors who help Dacre Montgomery character
4 Henry Cavill as The Villain of the movie
5 Charlize Therson as Furiosa Cameo at the end of the movie
The earnings of this great film are lackluster entirely due to the poor marketing of the first movie. Had it been better, there would have been an increased attention to this for the appreciation of the story or rather the origin story. It's sad that this film will most likely be passed along and ignored for it's great performance. I had a friend who wasn't familiar with the first film who went with me and he said it was "weird and uninteresting, and the story was hard to follow." That's clearly a result to the unpopular but phenominal first movies marketing. Although Chris Hemsworths performance was relatively decent, his previous films completely undercutted the seriousness that the character was supposed to portray.
Regardless if its good or not it killed the momentum of a saga, and it doesn't make sense. It's non-negotiable that this is not a film that made sense to produce. The story was completely wrapped up and set up for a sequel with Tom Hardy. I'm happy to get more Mad Max content, but it's truly baffling that this is what they went with. Because she was the focus of Fury Road, it was a story about Furiosa with Max as a vector for the story to unfold around. The way to go would have been to just rinse and repeat, Max with a new ensemble of characters to help. Idk man, but a prequal with a character that wasn't Max right after you get a generation of people interested in the property again is just bad business and is gonna fuck you from the start.
I think he’ll get to make one more if he wants. He’s an auteur. But it would have to be on much lower budget and nothing near as epic. Which is fine. Old Mad Max films were much lower budget movies. It will just wind up on HBOMAX real quick.
It's a shame, Furiosa is actually a really good movie and it's brilliant as a Mad Max movie, yes Max doesn't play any sort of role in the movie at all.. But it still hits the same beats and does a great job of expanding the world that George Miller has in his mind, I loved seeing a more expansive view of the wasteland in this movie and how you see things play out. Obviously Fury Road was an event type of movie where the narrative is the action and it's essentially one long chase sequence, this movie has a lot more slower moments throughout and I appreciated that, I personally think people can't see past the fact that it's a Furiosa movie and not a movie about Max, I think maybe if there had been another Max appearance from Tom Hardy between this and Fury Road things might have worked out differently.
There's a huge chunk of the MM fanbase who almost feel let down by the fact that Fury Road was almost as much Furiosa's movie as it was Max's. I don't personally see a problem with the two shared leads, but obviously to them it plays out like: Mad Max movie where he isn't the main character, 10 years later: Another MM sequel, however this time it's another Furiosa movie. For those people who either didn't like Fury Road and/or didn't like Furiosa as a character in that they aren't going to be going out to the cinema to see it, this may change over time as it comes out on streaming services and it develops a cult classic, but I don't think they should scrap the franchise over that. I KNOW for a fact that the next movie about Max will be hugely popular, Tom Hardy is a massive draw and people wanna see Max in his V8 Interceptor again.
It's interesting that something like Into the Spiderverse was able to amass a following after being on streaming, but Mad Max/Furiosa wasn't. Maybe the release gap didn't help or maybe it was still too weird for most people or the rating, or a combination. Regardless, still praying for one more Mad Max entry from Miller
If it’s good you can be sure no one will promote or like it. The last time I got this emotional was when they cancelled Raised by Wolves. That shit was epic! Another Australian lead! But alas! It was too good to last.
Im so sad, we need more :(
It was pretty dope so many moving parts I enjoyed it more than I thought I would 👍 hemsworth was really good
Glad you enjoyed it
I unfortunately wouldn’t be surprised because no one went to see and support Furiosa.
If Furiosa Movie cant work regarding box office... What will?
...they have to make it...they'd be fools not to...this could be the next big genre, like zombies and superheroes before it:...the post apocalypse...the pox-eclipse!...lol...or was it poxy-clipse...lol...they need to bring back Waterworld too...and make a game for it as well...we also need something like the Postman, something set in America...we got a lot of those, but I'd consider them more from the zombie genre than the post apocalypse...
Who is the main character in Mad Max? Oh, this is not important anymore? O.k. then it's better you make a cheap B-movie for the streaming market.
Main actress isn't in film for 1 st hour of film it's a young girl as furiosa and people don't want Chris Hemsworth as a villain he's type cast in hero roles
Nooooooo! Film series is genius
This was a prequel that nobody asked for. It had so much fake action, flawed storyline, and characters that nobody cared about.
My wife and I love Furiosa even more than Fury Road 🤎
FURIOSA DESERVES BETTER!
There’s plenty of time for it to gain momentum at the box office and pick up sooner rather than later. Why are everybody slagging it off I have seen furiosa and the film is brilliant askin the question I am which is bring back real max Mel Gibson and this will please all the fans and this film will go straight to top of box office without a doubt Mel is mad max
I will not believe anything unless it comes from George Miller he is the Governor of Mad Max 😮
Because girl boss is tired n worn out
Furiosa was good!
Studio pushed a storyline that no one asked for. People wanted the next installment not a prequel.
I think a prequal would have been okay but in terms of timing Wasteland should have been made first.
Miller has had this planned since wayyyy back. He had it all ready when doing Fury Road. It was going to be an animated movie until he changed his mind and wanted it live action. He even thought about filming it back to back with Fury Road.
Furiosa and a shit ton more has been planned for a long time.
I appreciate the want for a MM movie set after Fury Road, but this isn't a case of some woke tick the boxes whatever agenda it's being accused of IMO.
Oh and The Wasteland is set before FR, too.
I wanted the prequel and have been waiting almost 10 years for it. It was worth the wait and the virgin's complaining are missing out.
@@MegaSting1981Any idea where Mad is supposed to heading next? I know about the wastelands but that’s another FR prequel.

Political Ideology vs Capitalism
Most people just wanted to watch a real Mad Max movie, you know, with Mad Max in it, a story based on his character without the usual bait and switch.
People really can be dick heads everyone i asked they really liked furiosa i loved it i dont get how it floped apparentaly i really wanted wasteland and it would only be made if furiosa did well and it did bad apparentallu how i thought it was awesome
I can't speak for everyone else, but for me the story simply isn't engaging enough for me to want to take the time to see this in theatres. I'll wait until it's released via streaming.
You'll regret not seeing it on a big screen... it's really so good once you watch it
while transfomers has sequel after sequel
Transfomers? Its transformers
Furiosa was straight garbage
Fuvy rowvd
No one asked for this film. The film was not about mad Max. No one wants to see girl Boss. Those are the reasons.
Girl boss? Lol, do you even know the definition or just repeating it because everyone else is🤣🤣
This was a world building prequel, idk why people just can't seem to see it plus Miller had Furiosa in works for 2 decades, before all the girlboss bullshit. People just like to hate, that's all
Did you see furiosa? It was actually really good.
No one asked for most films and they get made anyway. This movie was a gem and a vision come to life. This will be one of those moves, like Blade Runner, that bombed on their initial run but will go down as a cult favorite that will influence cinema for years to come. Together with Fury Road we are lucky to have these.
@@sammalla5238you said everything, ppl are consumed by hate just for the hate and no reasons at all and harshing about a thing that they don't know wat it is.
It’s an incredible film. It’s unfortunate that incels like yourself cant appreciate it.
