Yeah, it's actually a good story. But the ending wasn't that fulfilling. Actually the anime had arguably one of the most abrupt ending screens, mitchey is like "oh man something feels off..." and then, end, goodbye. That's it. The wedding is good alternative ending...the last arc coulf no be the same without kisaki...but he was still leader of the black dragons. Thr could reclute hina and naoto. So people are salty that a good series turned out to be mid? The revengers hate is overplayef, people wanted the MC to become a combat badass, they wanted his personality to do a 180. Revengers was an enjoyable, dumb fun ride. People are far too spoiled, I was constantly telling the sub that if they hated it; then drop it.
I have also never read Tokyo Revengers and didn't even know Astro Royale was getting this level of hate, I just heard about it from Mother's Basement and gave it a shot. I always saw it as good but mostly standard stuff with a deliquent/yakuza edge to it, I did drop it after the Hibaru vs Kou fight only because there were other manga I wanted to catch up on and always planned to revisit it. I wouldn't call this manga a hidden gem it's also nowhere near bad enough to deserve this hate, it just seems like a 6 or 7 out of 10 manga that has potential to be greater down the line, nothing worth all this controversy.

The bloom effect added to some texts and images made me think I had my glasses dirty, I took them off and confirmed it was the editing, it hurted my eyes. I have astigmatism and I think it got worse by .1 every time the bloom effect showed up.

I think the only genuine problem I can say about Astro Royale is the characters. Soooo many characters introduced rapid fire makes it hard to sympathize with them. Major credit to Wakui and how he improved in Tokyo Revengers, is to take serious time to flesh out a character's backstory. The fights in the series dragged on for so long because of this but it was ultimately worth it in my opinion. Unfortunately I think shonen jump really wanted a more light hearted and battle focused manga however so you can see how he was kind of limited

Genuinely, Astro Royale is one of my favorites running in the magazine currently. It deserves so much more support and credit than people are giving it, and personally it really reminds me of that early 2000s shonen we rarely see anymore and that's really special for me.
Unfortunately, people like to feel like crusaders, fighting on the "right side of history", and at the same time they like to hold massive grudges if they think they have been slighted, to apply a distorted eye-for-an-eye logic and bask in schadenfreude. People having bad taste in manga is not a big issue at all, of course, but these mindsets are at the root of factionalism and extremism, and they are on the rise in many different aspects of our lives, polluting a lot of aspects of them.
Astro Royale is a manga that connects with its Japanese audience. Ppl ask what it would take for a foreigner to make it in Jump but one key thing is knowing your audience and creating a story that resonates with them. Your audience isnt the global manga community even if we now have simulpubs. We dont decide your fate, Japan does and the Japanese ppl do

Had no idea Astro Royale was getting so much hate cuz I'm honestly really enjoying it! Tokyo Revengers is one of my favorite anime/manga even though the ending wasn't amazing and was a bit rushed. But I really loved the story and characters! Definitely my favorite delinquent manga/anime. I'm glad Ken Wakui stuck with the same artstyle from TR for Astro Royale cuz I like it and it makes it stand out from other mangas. Its obviously not the most visually stunning cool lookin, but I care more about the characters and story in my opinion.

As an artist myself its also not that hard to draw concentrated eyes, all you need to do is draw a circle facing the point of concentration and draw the pupil correctly, which takes like 3 seconds. Lines on portrait panels I’ve noticed, can be wobbly, particularly the sides of faces meaning they’ve moving their pen slowly, if you have shaky hands moving your pen the teensiest bit faster would get rid shaky lines. While i’m aware its just the style, the rectangular mouths just feel clunky at times making it a less pleasant read. I understand that there are deadlines, but these are simple things that really just take seconds to fix, so it won’t really put the author under pressure. Or maybe they’re spending too much time on larger panels, so it should really be obvious to them that they have to spread their time out more to make the entire manga enjoyable. It can just feel a bit unprofessional at times when comparing it to something like astro royale, especially when they both have the same deadline. Its not cutting corners, its having no time management I’m actually just annoyed that people are saying astro royales art is bad, then proceed to obsess over kagurabachi when its art very clearly falls short to the latter.

The art is pretty great but the author doesn't really play around with perspective or paneling much, makes it kinda boring imo.

Not sure if this is an integral part of your editing style, but just know that you may be missing out on the sweet misophonic portion of your available audience.

never heard of this manga but your arguments for why the manga is a hidden gem arent that convincing, i guess its because of how relatively short this video is, but with the characters, all the examples used just seem like basic writing stuff, not really debunking any arguments. For what im seeing its just an okay manga, not bad but also not terrible, a pretty standard shonen, and in the current state of the manga industry most people dont want to read something that is just.... ok
