It's good to see some structures taking shape now, making the line of the formation more visible. Looking forward to the bridge construction under the dual carriageway. Thanks for the excellent clear and steady filming.
Thanks once again for a superb video. I really enjoy your updates on HS2 progress. I have lived in the US for 23 years, but born and bred in England. I have always been fascinated by British railway history. To see these new chapters unfold, from the comfort of my desk, is just extraordinary. The detail and precision of your flights is excellent. I just hope I can get back one day to ride the route! Keep up this great work.
Thank you once again for the effort involved and for releasing what has become a very interesting series of videos, documenting the progress of HS2. Incidentally, good to see they have installed a double-track bridge for services on the original line where it will cross over HS2.
I haven't seen or read about this stretch before. Once again excellent coverage. Keep up the good work, not everyone thinks it's a waste of time, effort and money.
I cycle through the part (at the start and end of your video) between Warwick Uni Campus and Kenilworth/Red Lane often. Makes me sad passing through, seeing it all tore up. Not a fan of HS2 but it will be better once it's green again, and I hope they have provided and relocated wildlife habitats along the way.
I filmed this stretch of HS2 in July 2018, from first light of dawn to such a lovely day with scattered cloud, a train crossing on the embankment, a woman walking her dog beside a huge tree embossed with a metal tag, all gone, the woman, the dog, the tree, the metal tag, none of it important, nor the stretch beyond, Crackley Lane, Broadwells Wood, Burton Green, Berkswell, meaningless I assume in the pursuit of progress. How strange I think, that such things may be considered at the deepest level, at a nationalistic level, so important
HS2 is an environmental disaster of epic proportions & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century. Thankfully, the Eastern leg & the Golborne link have been scrapped & anyone with half a brain knows that the "pausing" of the Birmingham to Crewe line & Euston station for 2 years really means "cancelling" & fingers crossed, the rest of this monstrous vanity project will never see the light of day. Just last week, the first 2 phases, (London to Birmingham & Birmingham to Crewe), were given a red rating & deemed "unachievable" by the government's own Infrastructure & Projects Authority (IPA) .. what a complete & utter waste of money this nightmare of a white elephant has turned out to be.
While I broadly agree with your comments I feel Covid-19 is the major reason for HS2 becoming the white elephant it now is. Sadly the contracts for the first phase were largly all signed hence it made no economic or financial sense to back out as the contracts were so water-tight it would not have saved a penny to do so. However, only the first phase was 'singed and sealed' hence the subsequent 'pause' of the rest. Will it expand any further in the future? Who knows, but one thing is certain, it would be at a greatly increased cost. Nonetheless, as it is being built at least those of us who do travel to London by train can hopefully look forward to less crowded trains from Coventry to Euston as they are currently just as busy, and often busier, than they were pre-Covid, not that the government want to admit this.
I agree. The should stop building railways and build more motorways. We should also ban electric vehicles, as they are bad for the environment. Diesel and petrol cars support Great British jobs in the North Sea that we need to wean ourselves off Russian oil and French electricity. Also, nuts to windmills and solar panels.
It might have been worth building if it went to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. having to change trains in London seems to negate the whole point of it. before lockdown I used to use the Eurostar quite a bit and the trains were very often near fully booked.
Ah, our usual anti HS2 friend appears on yet another video. This is the problem in this country. Nobody seems to have any forward vision. Build today to protect tomorrow. Let's face it, passenger numbers aren't going to be dropping and the existing lines are already creaking under the strain. Let's hope someone with some common sense completes HS2 in it's entirety. It's then that the full benefits will be realised. Yeah I get it, doesn't look good in the initial construction phase, what does? But once complete, long distance travel will be transformed. I mean, what viable alternatives are there? Roads and air? Nope. Zoom calls? Yeah, we all love going on holiday by zoom call or seeing our relatives that way.
The railway infrastructure in Britain is based totally on the vision of Victorian engineers from nearly 200 years ago. They went through cost overruns, political interference, etc. etc. If the infrastructure development had been halted due to this we would have NOTHING. HS2 sets the backbone of a system which will serve for the next 200 years. Claiming a victory because the vital links to the north have been canceled, and in the same breadth saying it is a waste of time, is nonsense. The whole point is that it is a start. We won't be around to see the full evolution of the system, in the same way none of the early engineers could even begin to grasp what their legacy would be. This thing is for the future of Britain, not just this or the next generation...

The speed (or lack of) that we operate at over here I suspect most of us will be long gone before a train runs over it with passengers on...

awesome shots 👍
I was in kenilworth this morning - didn’t realise the route went so close by!
