    For me, the Lolly's (I have the black ones) are uncomfortable as they have no padding and no insole save a hard carpet thing, and since I have absolutely no muscle strength anywhere on my body the fact that they have no ankle support is a big problem for me. They're beautiful skates, but had I bought my Periwinkle Beach Bunny's first I probably would not have purchased the Lolly's. Right now I have the orange wheels and laces that came with my Bunny's on my Lolly's for Halloween last year and they look amazing. But I never wear them. I have customised my Bunny's with blue laces, white glow luminous wheels and the purple Moxi Brake Petal Toe stops, and I AM IN LOVE WITH THEM. Someday I do hope to wear my Lolly's again once I become a stronger skater.

      @MystiqueRisingSun 3 роки тому +7

      You will gain muscle strength as you learn, but ankle support is - sadly - a myth that still persists in roller skating.
      When it comes to roller skates, it's truck tightness, and your wheels, that control movement (unlike inline skating which relies SOLELY on the wheels for turning)...muscle really doesn't have anything to do with it. Certain skating styles, if you want to go pro, do demand a specific style of boot (high tops for artistic, low for derby), but if you're just learning to skate, anything is fine as long as you have the proper wheels for what you're doing.
      Smaller ("shorter"), narrower wheels, are best for agility. Larger ("taller"), wider, wheels are best for speed and stability.

    If you need ankle support but don’t need them to be as stiff as beach bunnies , sure grip fames are a good middle ground !!! The sure grip boardwalks are suede like the Lolly but it too has zero padding . It will depend how much smile support you need

      I have the Panthers and I had no break in period. I have wide feet and my skates fit perfect from day one. I changed the wheels right away to ones made in USA. My only complain is that they're heavy, I haven't tried on a lolly but they would be lighter on the feet. That comes to preference though

    • @allisonhay8760

      The Beach Bunny's have a wider wheel-base than the Lolly. I got Lollys first, and I love them, but I notice that I feel that I can fall backwards easier in them. When I got the Beach Bunny's, that feeling went away, and it's due to the wider wheel-base, I think.
      I want to get the Panthers because it's a suede upper with the wider wheel-base. That would be perfect, in my opinion!
      Yes- replacing the wheels on the Beach Bunny's with a larger wheel would increase the height of the toestop.

    • @HelenaMawie
      @HelenaMawie 3 роки тому +1

      If I'm not mistaken the Panthers is the same boot as the bunny. Just different coating (vinyl). Technical specs are the same. I have the panther as a park skate and I'm very happy with it. (With Fundae wheels...)

    Really helpful video, thanks for sharing. I've already ordered a pair of Beach Bunny's but i'll definitely think about changing things out like the wheels, cushions and laces if I find them too uncomfortable. I think the Lolly's would be a natural progression for me if I - as you say - decide roller skating is something I really want to invest in. Thank you for all your insights!=)

    I wish I watched this review before buying the beach bunnies..
    I’ve been inline skating for a few months now. I’m still a novice but I have built up some muscle in the ankles and legs. I wanted to try quad skates so I did a little research and purchased the beach bunnies. I found that they were far too stiff for me and the restriction of movement from the vinyl boot made it quite difficult for me to skate. Cut to last week and I tried out my friends lollys - they were like wearing slippers. They were so comfortable and I felt like I could have skated for hours in them! With that being said, I have ordered a pair of lollys in the colour taffy!
    Moral of the story is - you can never do enough research! 😄

  • @bigknitenergy
    @bigknitenergy 3 роки тому +12

    I’m guessing because the wheels are smaller it puts your toestop closer to the ground. Have you looked into short stem toe stops? Also thanks for the review. I have impala skates that are rigid vinyl uppers. And I really was trying to talk myself out of the Lollys. But I think if I order at the next restock it will be a worthy investment.

    • @Mallenaudrix
      @Mallenaudrix 3 роки тому

      good points on thinner versus thicker wheels and I would also like to mention that just loosening the nut around the toe stop for the beach bunnies you can get them a little further off the ground, then just tighten the nut back up when its position where you want it.

      @15mxr07k 3 роки тому

      @@Amberwardell yes you can change them to the same softness as the Lollys which have medium cushions or soft whatever you prefer! The stock cushions that they come with don’t absorb any shock at all but that’s why they are “cheap”.

      @@15mxr07k How do you change out the cushions? Where would you buy new ones? I am in the challenging category where I almost always have to buy stuff one size up to accommodate my wide feet, but then there's a little too much room in the toe box. Any recommendations on inserts or something that can make the toe box shorter without making the shoe width tighter?

      The stock wheels are hybrids I believe (don’t quote me on that)so they should be okay for both indoor and outdoor. But if you do intend on outdoor skating then yeah you could just have wheels specifically for that.

    Where did you get your toe guard for lollys? Thank you

  • @MystiqueRisingSun
    @MystiqueRisingSun 3 роки тому +4

    You do need to put your toe guards on correctly or you're going to lose your stop. The washer and nut should be on the "inside" so that the toe guard sits just above the stop, then the nut, then washer, then plate.
    P.S. NO skate is meant to be skated "out of the box". They're all "factory tightened" - some trucks and wheels can be more loose, some are much tighter...but always play with them a little bit until they feel good to you. With new skates the toe stops should also be double checked to make sure they are tight (some aren't and will fall off, especially with the extra vibrations of outdoor skating). Skate smart, stay safe.

    • @MystiqueRisingSun
      @MystiqueRisingSun 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, losing a stop (or a wheel) at a rink is scary enough...outdoors, even worse! At least you didn't hurt yourself. When outdoor skating, I always have a fanny pack or backpack with a couple extra parts and tools just in case something like that happens. Bolts and nuts can roll away never to be seen again. :(

  • @nuca9087

    ah thanks for explaining this so well! im a beginner skater and i own impala skates. ive noticed that theyre REALLY stiff on my ankles, which makes it heavier and less flexible but at the same time it gives me more support on my legs which makes me feel much safer and stable. so i wanted to figure out with which moxi skate to upgrade my impalas to. i guess impala and beach bunny are similar, besides bb having smaller wheels. so its probably best to wait for my skating skills to improve and buy lolly, rather than beach bunny, since it wont noticeably improve the skating experience (in my case)

    Love your video.
    I ordered Holographic Impala skates first. They are so beautiful, but dangerous outside. They claimed to be quad wheels, but they are extremely dangerous outside. Any crack in the sidewalk, twig, or pebble is extremely prone for stumbling and falling.
    So I ordered juicy / trixy outdoor wheels from Moxi to switch out. I believe these are the same wheels on the Lolli skates.
    OMG, the wheels are so comfortable. It's night and day in these.
    But the toe stop is way too high now, and the Impala toe stop is not adjustable. :(
    So now I am really looking at the Lolli skates. The Impala skates did take a bit to break in. For me it was about three days of skating. I am going to put the original wheels back on for indoor skating, which look similar to the beach bunny wheels. My Impala wheels also had glitter in them.

      Honestly it’s hard to say which I prefer more. This is just *my* opinion, but if you’re looking for super comfy “striding” skates I’d go with the Boardwalk, but if you want skates that you might be harder on, like at the park, you might prefer the Beach Bunnies

    The stock wheels on the beach bunny are much lower quality than the classic gummy wheels that come with the Lolly, which are made with a much higher quality urethane. So even though they are the ‘same’ hardness rating, they’re really not a like for like comparison. Many people switch the beach bunny wheels because they’re just not very good.
    ETA: apologies, forgot to add that I loved the review you gave, and completely agree with you RE the Lolly skates (or spending more on a really good pair whichever brand) being an investment!
