Klay is obviously not the same defensive player but the Mavs are essentially upgrading their SF position from Derrick Jones Jr. To Klay Thompson....Derrick Jones Jr. Was constantly getting wide open looks from the corner 3 cause of all the attention Luka and Kyrie demand...Klay will get plenty of open looks and probably average right around the 17-18 PPG he averaged this past season with Golden State...they definitely will take a step back defensively, but Derrick Lively was a great draft pick cause the Mavs desperately needed a rim protector..Lively reminds me so much of a young Tyson Chandler..and they Still have Gafford and PJ Washington as well...those 3 were a huge reason Mavs were a much better team defensively this past season...I don't think the Klay signing makes Mavs the favorites in the West, but they will definitely be right there in the mix with the other elite Western Conference teams

It was actually the opposite, the Celtics shot their lowest shooting percentage against the Mavs. They lacked an actual knock down shooter and none of their role players were able to step into that role. Having Klay changes a lot of that

33 year old Klay Thompson got 3.6 total Win Shares for the Warriors last season. Maybe the Mavericks get another 3 to 4 wins from his addition. The most playoff win shares he has gotten were 2.5 but over a 24 game postseason. That doesn't even close the gap against the Celtics who beat Dallas 4 games to 1. I'm not worried about Klay. Dallas needed a younger better player to close the gap. Maybe a Klay Thompson from 8 years ago but to say that version of Klay Thompson would get Dallas over the hump against a Celtics team who's core players could still be improving is talking trash without backing it up.
