In every video I get overwhelmed by the beautiful landscapes you guys have in the UK. And the Lake District is for sure on my bucket list! Just wonderful scenery.
Fully agree with Pascal. I live in a state (US) that is slightly > 2(UK+Ireland), but is 90%+ privately owned, making access very difficult. Thanks and keep up the outstanding work Nigel.
I'm in Scotland, and I agree UK has great areas to shoot. Quite a lot of scenes that have that "age" factor. Then again, I've also found that almost everywhere there is something unique and interesting, and quite often we just are so used to it that it doesn't quite feel that way.
@@nillarafael3883 Yes I know what you mean. I live in Belgium and due to high density of population, there is almost no real nature left. The nature reserves are so tiny that when shooting these you need to be careful excluding the "human world". The only part of Belgium which has a bit of nature interest resides in the south. But even there the landscape photographic possibilities are rather limited. Believe me, due to covid I have tried my best. The UK (and also Scotland) have vast parts of natural beauty left.
@@pascalhibon7928 Ah, yes. Belgium really is incredibly densely populated. I fully understand what you mean. The nature here in Scotland is amazing, and basically we have natural parks almost in the city! So yes, you are absolutely right. I suppose Belgium would then work best for people and street photography, but obviously that is not the same. Perhaps we'll one day be done with this pandemic and you'll be able to visit the neighbouring areas! All the best Pascal, stay well.
@@pascalhibon7928 The UK is not exactly a perfect example for nature. Isn’t it not like that the UK is nearly deforested? As much as I love Scotland, it’s a tragedy that reforestation is progressing at such a slow pace? How much more beautiful could it be with more forests?
Thank you Nigel for spending the time to share your immense knowledge, it’s truly appreciated. Every time I think my photography is getting better I watch your weekly videos and realise how far I have to go, but your inspiring videos just fuel my passion. Thank you again
Thanks for the useful advices @Nigel Danson! I think checking the weather forecast in combination with the current season more in detail helps a lot too. Understand wind, fog, snow, rain, sunlight directions, thunderstorms.....and to , even this might sound quite obvious but to actually go to places which are interesting or dramatic from a landscape point of view , mountains with the sea or lakes are usually a great combo if you are not obliged to shoot in a certain area. Canyons, deserts, specific forests, specific rock formations will increase the fun and results of landscape photography massively!
Thanks again, for producing a great collection of examples and tips. I stay up Sat night 1:00 am Sunday, here in California, just to see what you have prepared.
Your ability to find beauty in what might seem mundane is inspiring. The result sometimes brings tears to my eyes. Thank you. Today's tips and photos will change my photography.
@@WilliamLesourd No, not at all. It's a beautiful area. I just think that Nigel sees compositions that would never occur to me. But I hope to learn to see differently with some help from these videos.
Thanks so much for discussing the blue sky compositions. Also showing the examples with the different focal lengths. Seeing the examples always helps. You videos and a Sunday morning cup of coffee is a great way to start the day!
I'd love to see a supercut of Nigel returning back to the camera after walking off to stop the clip recording. Thanks as ever for your time and effort in putting these videos together, Nigel.
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to show examples of what you were talking about. It made the tips so real and easy to understand how to actually use them.
Love this lesson. So grateful you spent the day and showed your process from morning light to sunset. It really makes a difference to see it and have you walk through your compositions. I learned a lot just from this video.
The pano at the end was lovely! It’s funny you pass all these wonderful little gates and stiles and we don’t have those here so I’m saying to the screen ‘the picture is right there for me’ lol. Thanks for bringing us along.
All good tips! #7 I have entered a contest that required you to take the photo on New Years day. Conditions that day where not ideal, but forced me to get out of my comfort zone.
We are always so impressed with the amount of hard work you put into the making of your videos. It makes them so watchable and the information they contain is so very useful to us as amateurs. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to tomorrow nights latest edition!
So much good advice - ie direction, time of day, moving around to choose better angles. Brilliant. Great location. I love the fact you give us info on how you choose the best composition. I love the single tree image with the blue sky and the hedge pointing towards the tree (the negative space image). Lovely!
Definitely got the right image to finish on. Taken from the morning part of the vlog ? The fog patches do it for my taste. Thanks again for sharing Nigel. Stay safe 😷🇦🇺
The take home of this episode for me is to be absorbed in, appreciate and enjoy the photo taking process. Actually seeing and imagining the frame may be best achieved with the enthusiasm generated from a long envigorating hike. Again, you are inspiring! Tx so for your work !
Your production quality is amazing. The 360 drone shot with PhotoPills display really helped explain the scene masterfully. I really appreciate all of your advice, it’s really helpful!
Really liked the composition talk-throughs with video from the phone. Great insights into how you think about a scene which is really helpful, especially for a beginner. Would love to see more of them!
Loved the video especially Tip 3. Not having any dramatic landscape close by and always striving for that dramatic shot; I will now look more closely at what we do have here, thank you.
Good tips, I use backlight a lot on sunny days when the sun is high in the sky. Adapting to the changing weather, especially in the UK is definitely a top tip.
My tip would be to not get carried away by a beautiful landscape and try and capture it in one shot but rather pick a few scenes from that landscape that together convey the same ambiance.
Another excellent video there Nigel - educational and inspirational. Your point about light is not lost on me, light and how it plays with all of the components is why I am out there and it ties in with a point you made in a previous video about observation. Light can change rapidly in this country and with those changes brings a completely different scene and emotion.
Great tips, Nigel- with really helpful do’s and don’t’s- as always I learn a lot week-to-week. I also appreciate you being so consistent which allows me to try out your tips on Sunday, which is the one day I can always get out!
Thanks for educating us once again! I always struggle with Composition especially in a busy cluttered area. These are great tips and This really helps!
Such helpful content. In rural photography I'm usually thinking wide sweeping vistas, and now realize I've been missing opportunities to zoom in on specific elements. Here in the PNW of the U.S. we have no shortage of magnificent trees, just to start with, and I'm excited about changing my perspective. I'm learning so much from your photography and videos. Thank you!
My husband can’t understand why I will be out for 2 hours and only actually walk for 30 minutes, yet have 100 photos! Still trying to reach your high level though!
My girlfriend can by looking at my "stats" if it was a successful shoot. 5 hours and only 5km? Amazing conditions and loads of comps. 3 hours and 12km? Terrible morning photography wise, but a nice hike through the forest! :D
My biggest problem is, when the wife is with me on a walk she point on a flower e.g. oh, there is a beautiful flower take a photograph of that and I have to explain for her why I need more than a stand alone flower and that is why it can take some time to get a photograph that I am happy with.
Beautiful landscapes. Your videos with yourself as an element in the scene are often very interesting, they give scale and also connection. You rarely do the same with your stills (like e.g. Mads P. I.). Have you thought more about that?
Very good video. This is one of my weak points. I have a very bad knee and I'm always feeling rushed to get the pictures before I have to cut short and take a break. Love the mood of this landscape with the saturated colors and foreboding sky.
Always look forward to your videos Nigel, such great production quality, clear, relaxed style and excellent information. Really helpful and inspiring. Thankyou and keep up the great work.
I'm really enjoying your videos and your tips are very useful. It's so powerful to understand how different lighting conditions affect the final image. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Sunday morning. Sausage sandwich, cup of tea and the new Nigel Danson video. It doesn't get any better than this 😉. I love the music you have on your videos Nigel. Where do you get them from?
I also find TPE (The Photo Ephemeris) application valuable when scouting locations I may find and would like to return to at another time of the year when the light may be better for a photo op. It gives lat/long, direction of light at a certain time of the day, for a given date, so I can schedule return trip. A very handy application! Very nice video, thanks!
4:59 I love my Z7 with 24-200mm setup. That lens is really nice optically and very convenient. Reminds me of my Panasonic GH5 with Olympus 12-100mm days (but with better image quality from the Z7 of course)…but that combo was wonderful.
Love the iPhone idea and not seeing the big scene. Just got back from a trip and am kicking myself for not using it because you've mentioned it before. d'ohhhh!
Wow, this was so helpfull and interessting😃, thank you! At stop 13:38 with drone view I saw a beautiful picture: you was reflected in the water of the puddle in that wonderful landscape😍 love drone views!
Thanks so much for your video, great points, beautiful presentation. I love hiking, just did point and shot on iPhone. So just got my first camera/tripod ..... thanks for your help for better composition.
I'd say hiking is the most underrated landscape photography tool. Being willing to put in 20-40 km without knowing if you'll get an image is what's going to build that, landscape photographers spirit. Creation is not about immediate gratification, it's a long and tedious process with a clear goal at the end.
Excellent video, thanks so much, Nigel! I love the way you shoot your videos. Have you ever explained anywhere (video/blog) how you do your videos? And the sound? I really like it that you take your great photos often with the 24-120mm lens. It‘s still the photographer who makes the photos, not the camera...
Hi Nigel, I am always in awe of the countryside you visit. I live in East Sussex so mainly farmland. Would you mind sharing the OS footpath you were on for this video so maybe we can enjoy when we next holiday. Thanks again for this great insightful video.

Why do i relate to this comment so much 😂
