Nah, I listened to another version that she did where it was a different band set up and it just wasn't the same. I agree that the whole package is awesome, but this version in particular is incredible because of those sweet bluesy riffs that the dude is jamming out. Having heard a version where the voice and lyrics are the same, but the guitar thing (I really wish I knew what it was called) was absent. I have to say that what makes the song, is in fact, that funky little guitar thing. Seriously, go find another version of the song. It doesn't hold a candle to this one.
That's a bouzouki. I don't think I've heard it used with a slide for a bluesy sound though. Usually Greek or Celtic music. Her voice makes all her music great and this somewhat quirky song gives her real opportunity to shine, but I agree the bouzouki playing really makes this song interesting.
Just hit me (after about 30 listens). She is re=interpreting Joe Cocker in his later concerts (which means this more awesome than I even thought) What a voice and delivery.

Well maybe we were runnin from the big city or maybe we were runnin to the mountain air. And then we came upon a cabin of a diner and oh, how they did stare. I said "Hey... what's the quickest way to your Motel 6, out in these sticks?" Said "Hey... we're feelin kinda weary, we been drivin all day and we need a place to stay." And they said "Baby there aint no shortcuts on your way. Baby there aint no highways in these parts. You know baby gonna have to drive yourself down every little windy road, If you really wanna get to where you're goin." Well I was sittin on the therapist couch and I didn't know why I was there. 80k views? Insult. This is absolute gold.
I love when you can’t decide whether the writing or the vocals is the best part of the song. Both 10 out of 10.
I was put onto this song a few weeks ago and now I'm obsessed.
LOVE that song. I have had that on repeat so many times. It’s great to see it performed live.
She is GREAT !!!!!!!
I saw Heather and she played this tune at the Colorado Folks Festival probably 5 years ago. She was awesome!!

Wow! That might be the best performance I've heard on etown.
Amazing song--vocals and song lyrics, and band....
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That funky little guitar really makes this song.
+Tom Croteau as a guitar player i agree it's cool, but that voice makes this song along with great lyrics.

I saw/heard Larry Campbell play a bouzouki when he was with Bob Dylan. It gave a nice haunt to "Blind Willie McTell".
No words for HOW MUCH I L9VE HER VIBE. Get it girl. Damn
lots-of-talent on that stage, love it...
OMG. Amazing.
Heather I saw you perform this at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. We just loved it, and so great to see this here. Really an amazing performer!

Joe Cocker??? What are you drinking, John?
I had no idea the actor who plays the comic book store owner on The Big Bang Theory knew how to play a funky guitar!
Great sound! What type of stringed instrument is that?
***** Looks like a mandocello to me.
It's a bouzouki. Initially from Greece, adapted later into Irish music. Now they are used in a wide range of music.
She's great but I luv that tenor guitar tone
