    Surprised to see you using grit-paper on your lathe, always believed that was not recommended. Very nice job on the fly-cutter and bit holders!!

      Maybe it's not recomended because of steel dust wich can go under ghe rails on the lathe, but i always use sand paper on my cheap lathe.

    Dubbed the speed at the cutter, bigger circumference faster cutter. thanks for making me figure it out. Why does it work so well? I will be making one soon. Great video.

      Ql, i got it for about 10 years now, make lot of hours on it, and still work awesome for 300€ i pay for new out of store 2011.
      This is Austrian brand (erba) where you come frome if you got same one ;-)

    To make it more secure and safer in the mill, you could have made the shaft longer, and machined a couple of flats on it, so it could be used in an end mill arbor.
    Better yet (although it would require far more material and work), you could have made it like an arbor, allowing it to be bolted into the milling machine's quill.

    Steel and iron are completely different, looks like steel to me, i noticed in one or your other videos (turning)you call steel iron and i could tell by the very long stringy chips,, iron does not do that, it crumbles into short powdery dust grains. nice video all the same. and subscribed for more.

    Your cut is always going to be ahead of centre. Your slot for the tool should be offset. I know this is an old video, but it's worth knowing your correct geometry.

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  2 роки тому

      True, but i angeled the insert a bit.

  • @markhobster8113
    @markhobster8113 5 років тому

    nice, if you look at a commercial fly cutter the tool bar is offset to the side of the head center, offset so the cutting face of the carbide is level with the center of rotation, as you have it the cutter would be like using on a lathe with the cutting tip below center, the finish is nice but the finish will be better with less tear out of material especially on low carbon mild steel if the cutter tip is on rotation center, not the middle of the bar on center

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  5 років тому +1

      It's true but then you got less material from side to hold insert holder, that's why i make through center, and than add angle on insert holder look on 8:18 that angle make insert more in center, hope you understand my english, also make this fly cutter specialy for chuck, when you need to clean small surface quickly.

    My Friend excelent Tool..Better use this tool with Collet(more Safe) and no drill Chuck ..

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  8 років тому +1

      Thanks, i make that flycutter with small diameter of shaft, just because i can fit it into drill chuck, so tool change is very fast, if i mount collet take me 5x more time.
      That chuck with key (not selftightening) is great, half hour ago i face milling some aluminium with that cutter, take 0,1mm deep 100mm wide with that chuck, with no problem no vibration.... maximum feed speed.
      I heave another one for collet but using hss tool and not so good, more vibration than that, hope you understand my english.

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  7 років тому +2

      joshua klingensmith agree i had another one for collet but make this one specialy for chuck for some small part so you don't need to change chuck...
      and chuck can't fall out because there are thread on chuck-conus side and mk3 conus had M12 thread, so it cant fall out, but agree chuck is not for milling it's some kind of shortcut, No problem at all so far.

    Hi. Please, PLEASE, get a proper mill chuck. Fly cutters put a big side load on the chuck and you WILL have a very nasty accident using a drill chuck. Drill chucks are not designed to take side loads. You will damage the drill chuck, your work and quite possibly yourself when the tool is thrown violently out of the drill chuck at speed. I do not want you to get hurt - you make nice videos! If your spindle has an R8 taper then R8 collets are the cheapest option. Otherwise I suggest an ER collet chuck, either ER20 or if it will fit the bigger ER30 chuck. You can buy the matching tool holder collets one at a time as required. BobUK.

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 років тому

      Robert Hawtin hy, yes that's true, my mill use mk3 collets and i got them from 2-20mm, but this fly cutter i make specially for a drill chuck, i know that's not right, but sometimes you must just flat some piece, and rhan drill again, so lot of time saving, but you must know what you work and cut slowly not 2mm at once.
      Also i make more fly cutter wich fit into 20mm collet for more serious work.

    Ingvar
    Precise and handsome.
    Just thinking, if the shank would protrude equally at the back end will vibrations be even smaller?
    Regards

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 років тому

      Ingvar Bergström thanks if you want less vibration just make shank 20mm diameter and use collet and not drill chuck to mount.
      I make one before with 20mm shank but make this one specialy for drill chuck so there is 12-13mm shank diameter, it's dangerous i know but save lot of time if you know what you work (cutting really gently)

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 років тому

      Ingvar Bergström i translate now "protrude" i know what you think now, maybe there will be some less vibration because there are big force only on one side, so maybe it help if you mount some kind of weight on other side, but i will not play with that.

      @@CUBETechie fly cutter is used only for smoothnes the surface, i cut really low deepth with it like 0,1mm with milling head you can cut 10mm or more at once with real machine, but fly cutter cut much much bigger area at once (i seen once cutting 1 meter of diamater, and fly cutter make better, smoother, nicier surface than milling head.
      I bought the vise, it's from really hard material and grinded from all side, really love that vise, i bought on ebay for about 100€, but it's worth every penny, good vise is basic in milling, if you got cheap vise you'l broke lot of tool and nerves.
