    I bought both of these and I agree with you. They sound very good. Since they already changed the label to yellow, I went ahead and bought indie exclusive colored vinyl. They are absolutely beautiful and the colored vinyl plays quietly. I'm so glad I ordered them and I look forward to receiving the rest. I always enjoy hearing your opinion. Thank you and have a great day.

    On RVG, I don't know if you have heard this Mike, Charles Mingus said "Rudy van Gelder makes those kind of records. He tries to change people’s tones. I’ve seen him do it; I’ve seen him do it; I’ve seen him take Thad Jones and the way he sets him up at the mike, he can change the whole sound. That’s why I never go to him; he ruined my bass sound."

    In my opinion kevin sometimes ignores the accuracy of Rudy's ear for realistic cymbals in lieu of "it was on the tape so leave it in". Which can make the cymbals too hot and tinny and innacurrate. His argument is that people spending $30-40 on records have hi end cartridges and turntables that can handle it. I guess many do, but That doesn't really change what is on the record

    • @jackfalco5351

    • @Joe-yi8xj
      @Joe-yi8xj Рік тому

      @@jackfalco5351 a good jazz crash ride cymbal chosen by a good drummer will only have a little bit of a glassy sound but will overall be warm sounding, dark, and clear. Including or accentuating the treble above 10k will often exacerbate the glassy character vs the warm dark characteristics that would often be more present in person. The tinny upper frequencies tend to dominate what would have been heard in person in the room when they are mastered into the final product

    I cannot agree with you when you speak of Third Man pressings in the same breath as Optimal as if they are at the same level of competence! No way in my experience. Optimal produces the quietest vinyl in the world along with Cleveland’s Gotta Groove Records who conspicuously, never seem to get a mention in the U.S. I have hundreds of Optimal pressings. Using my cleaning regimen they are as quiet as a tomb. Not so with Third Man Records. I use both wet cleaning and ultrasonic in tandem and that is the real deal. You see, I don’t think ultrasonic cleaning is wholly effective on its own, particularly with records that are delivered in filthy condition direct from the factory! Wet cleaning is still essential in my experience and I also use the excellent Klaudio RCM, since 2014 in fact. I won’t take issue with you about Pallas. The vinyl from that plant is not nearly as good as it was in the mid to late 1990s and beyond. Quality control has slipped in Diepholz, Germany over the past decade or so, in my experience.

    In past vids when mike has mentioned thirdman, it is clear he never liked thirdman anything. This vid seems like he is forced to like TMR. Has Mike ever gotten/listened to any vault packages from TMR? I don’t honestly care what anybody really thinks of TMR. To each their own, but there is no denying what they are doing/how much they are helping the vinyl industry with their state of the art in house pressing plant they implemented years before anybody had the balls to do it. Imho, TMR, does more for the music industry themselves then most other labels do. That includes all major labels. Listen to the latest vault package. It’s Mile Davis. TMR, re-presses recordings that havent been heard/pressed in many many years, when they decided to choose what gets pressed. I wish there were more in the industry that cared as much as Jack White cares about the preservation of all genres of music. I am not one bit surprised this series is amazing because i buy tons of pressings from TMR, and I tbh, am never displeased by any of them. Yeah, I sound biased, sure, but there is no denying that TMR is first rate becaause their attention to detail is also amazing. Just my two cents/observations.

      Jack White has done more than most, releasing and promoting excellent, obscure garage and punk rock. I visited the London store for the first time last weekend. Quite fascinating that you can have a store like this on a prime address filled with records like Weather Warlock, Snooper, Tyvek and Human Eye. He deserves a lot of respect.
