First Time Reaction to Nightwish "Phantom of the Opera" by a Music Producer

- Here's my second reaction to this classic band, the almighty Nightwish.
Although I am familiar with the album version of this song, sung by Tarja, I wanted to see how the live version with Floor Jansen would feel.
Additionaly, I happen to see a live performance of them for the first time.

Alright, Patroden. Nice reaction and analysis of this performance. The band stepped into the background for this because Floor (and Henk) were both performing before their home audience and Tuomas Holopainen (keyboardist and composer of almost all Nightwish songs) wanted to give them the spotlight. Thank you for continuing to react to Nightwish live performances (with Floor).
The band wanted give space to the both singers.Let them shine.
Andrew L Webber prefered Henk as the Phantom, Henk sang this in decades in The Nederlands. The band gave space to Floor and Henk as a special treat, given they sang in their homeland ,,,, Henk promised Floor to go a bit metal on this . Nightwish started 1996
The crowd had no Idea they were going to do this (some suspected they might) because its Floor & Henk's home country and she had promised him a chance to perform with her & Nightwish back in 2019 .
yes, they even did rehearsal with the amps and mic shut off - it was just them on stage being very quiet so the fans waiting to get in did not hear the Phantom
The band were only in the back for this song as far as I know.
I was at this concert and the band only dropped back for certain songs. This one was in the encore part at the end of the show. For the main part the 'presentation' was more like what you'd expect from a band on stage.
Henk Poort is a Dutch opera/musical singer who played the part of the phantom in the Dutch version of the actual production. Henk is one of Floor's idols and she's admired him since she was a little girl.
This deal is from the BZ2019, then came Covid, and everything delayed. This is the fullfillment of that promise. Henk Poort sporting in classic "Nightwish family" shirt. And the film is "Pan's Labyrinth".
and Pan is one of the songs on the recent Human::Nature album, though not played live.

Floor deliberately eases back on the vibrato to make the vocals more contemporary. To use her own words, “I don’t want to make it too “Maria Callas”.
As for the stage setup, the rest of the band deliberately took a back seat to feature Floor and their guest Henk Port.
The band hung back to give the stage to Floor and Henk. Henk played the role of the Phantom in the Dutch production . Henk's vibrato is due to the fact that he is a trained operatic singer. I agree with your comment on Floor's vocal technique. Much more accessible. Respect to Tarja. Not a session band. This is a unique song. The new singer…..she’s only been with Nightwish 12 years since 2012 longer than any previous singer, sang this with tenor Henk Port who was a guest in this show. She had recently suffered from breast cancer and had undergone treatment. Here with shorter hair than we were accustomed to she proved that the cancer had only made her spirit stronger and she was still earned the title as the Valkyrie Queen of Nightwish!

I enjoy this, but I like the beste zanger version better.
Henk is older and is losing strength in his voice each year, and then he missed his cue so it was rushed a bit then. It's still a great performance, but I Love the other more.
Very nice version of the song... But I prefer the Tarja/Marko version from the Hartwall Arena 2005 - their voices together are insane for this song.
