Hi Marcus, I am a qualified hi tec technician. I have been following your videos for a while. I had a mk1 escort back in the early 90s.
What you are doing, working outside on your cars is commitment. DONT ever put your self down. There are a lot of people out there who think they know about cars and they dont. What i really like about you is you dont claim that. The work you do is good and you ask for help, which in my eyes you get my respect. Keep up the good work and the fantastic videos. Always happy to help you where i can. I also trained as an auto electrician while i was working at Nissan

If you put a big lump of copper or aluminium in behind those big holes you’ll be able to plug them more easily as they don’t weld to steel.
I did try this at one point mate. I had Rob holding a block of copper behind. It wasn't the right shape to get right in tight behind the holes tho unfortunately. 🙁
Your worst criticism comes from yourself. You put your work out there on UA-cam. To help the DIY guys. Your awesome at what you do never put yourself self down your a smart cookie hi to cat.
Hi Marcus & Cat well it's been one of those weeks for you. The way you handle the bad weeks now is a credit to you Marcus keep your head up you are doing a great job with your UA-cam channel. Cheers
What I lack in talent I make up for in perseverance! 👍
Fair play man, fair play on having a dam good go.
If at first you dont succeed, FAIL and FAIL again!! 😃
Well done for having a go at welding Marcus 👍🏼
Thanks mate! 👍 Its not my first attempt at welding but it was certainly my worst! 😃
Marcus. You work out of a lockup and/or outside. You're doing alright mate! You're having a go. Learning off people and seeking help when necessary. KEEP IT UP! There's a load of people like you out there and your video's let them know the enthusiasts out there aren't all F1 mechanics working in a fully equipped workshop!!
Love the channel Marcus 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for tuning in! 👍
Nice work on maudes interior, I’d leave the headliner in it though, it’ll be a nightmare over winter with condensation. I don’t have a headliner in my mk1.
I dint think of the condensation to be honest. 👍
dont be so hard on yourself you have done your best and thats all what matters . great video and always good to see what you achieve
Thanks for the positivity mate! 👍
Mate this is why I watch your channel honest hard work and 110% effort we know your not a professional welder but you took this on and see it through it works it’s safe top job 👍🏻👍🏻
I'll always keep it real mate! 👍 . . . . . but hopefully my skills wont always be as bad! 👍
Looks good, well done Marcus!👍😎
Thanks mate! 👍
Awesome 😊👍
👍
Keep up the hard work and glad to see u r still enjoying boxing.
Loving the boxing mate! 👍 Been finding it a bit harder to fit gym and boxing around my life lately but I know I need to keep health and fitness as my main priority. 👍
Your welding wasn't that bad and glad you did it. I should have mentioned spare tips and tip cleaning tools. Clean up with the rotary wire brush in-between each blast or two of weld. You really need a helper with a dolly on the other side from the hammer unless you can reach through the gearbox shift aperture(?) The side with the proper welder wasn't too bad at all. Hope you can invest in a welder and practice more, you are definitely good enough to pursue the welding. Thanks for explaining you have done the plug welding. From the interior it looked fine from the cosmetic point of view. . . and keep that extinguisher handy. Look forward to the next one.
Always avenue, Fire extinguisher Always
It's good you have had a go at the welding mate 👍
Great effort is all I'm going to say Marcus
Thanks Wayne! 👍
My pleasure as always Marcus
Top man Marcus, great job considering your conditions you have to work in and experiences. That is the only way one gains experience and knowledge. Keep it up and great videos. From S.A 👍👍
Matt keep the great passion you have for the escorts, you put yourself in a bit of a panic to finish you should have taken your time to do esters welding and not stressed yourself ,your very honest showing us when things dont go right but you battle on so keep the faith you will get her all done good luck all the best👍🙂
Hey it wasn't that bad. Keep it up 👍
Thanks mate! 👍
I weld cars all day every day & no longer pay minor fires any heed. Schitt catches fire.. put it out, carry on. When you're welding in a patch like this, tack on a couple of thin strips so you can pull back on them to align the patch as you go along - a hammer will align them the other way, but being able to pull them back as you tack is invaluable. If you have no access to the backside, they can be a lifesaver - you're able to pull that sucker so it lines up.
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍
Brilliant tip.
I'll use this one myself lol
Looks alright from my house. Lol. Props for attempting it. It ain’t structural so get it watertight and call it good for now.
It will defo do for now mate! 👍
we've all been there :) trials and tribulations of a classic ford owner :)
I wouldn't worry the tunnel is definitely fine its strong enough you dont see it anyway
Im defo over it now mate. it will be fine. 👍
Function over form...."dat's my boy"😁.
👍
It's not bad , and you can fix it up later, I'm the same with welding as I don't do it alot so have to do what I can when I'm doing the welding, and when you are in a hurry things don't work out the same and take longer ☹️ anyway it will get sorted when you can do it 👍🏽 I have my Rav4 all in bits again but my problem is no $ so it will sit for a bit before I can fix the transmission and transfer case , that's life so will get a job but that makes doing things harder as to time wise, cheers 👍🏽🤙
Things defo always seem to take longer when Im in a hurry! 😃
These things always give you hassle just got to keep on at it, at goodwood the G3's alternator died got a new one shipped down and fitted, then the clutch slave cylinder rod snapped off the fork. Box out re weld and refit in a field, ran sweet for the rest of the day.
Fair play mate! 👍
At the end of the day Marcus you've done the best you can with what you had and i believe that speaks volumes about yourself and for anyone that wishes to criticise you i garauntee most of them couldn't do any better
Ayy up Marcus,at least you tried practice makes perfect you made a better job than I would have done, I would have paid some one to do the cut outs and the welding.great vlog mate and Maude is coming on well
Glad you enjoyed the video mate! 👍
Yes a bit of copper busbar or block of aluminium as my journey man fergie Armstrong showed me that trick he learnt In Harland and Wolff Belfast
I did try this at one point mate. I had Rob holding a block of copper behind. It wasn't the right shape to get right in tight behind the holes tho unfortunately. 🙁
Ah don't despair you can easily repair the loom - look how much you have achieved/progressed with these cars - always a new day brings a new adventure - and a new lesson - if you knew my eff=ups lol
Everyday is a school day! 😃
Good job! your channel is real word warts and all, petrol heads in there shed messing about with cars. I was laid on the gravel in the rain trying to weld a plate on my everyday car for the MOT. Not my best work but it did the job😂
You have done a great job on Esther considering where you do it. I would be happy if it was done on my car😊
A (amatuer) welders best mate is a grinder. 🤣
The job just needed a bit more time... and confidence tbf. The pressure of a time crunch did you no good.
. . . . And his 2nd best mate is a tube of sealer!! 😃
Nevermind, enjoy that Tiramisu behind you. yum!
Once it was sealed and painted it looked fine on camera mate! Don't be too hard on yourself.. Those gasless migs are horrid things to use!! Plus its not the easiest trying to do everything on your own!!
The sealer and paint did a great job of hiding the mess! 😃
It looks fine, I bet some people would of meshed/fibre glassed it.
I've mot'd worse repairs 🙂
Hi Marcus,
Shame Clump Fab wasn't going still to sort the tunnel.
Fair play you having a go yourself though.
Hi , I’ve enjoyed watching 😢😢😢, yes you should start again using a larger piece of metal and weld it from the inside,
I kind of thought that if I keep the welding and grinding on the underside it would be less hassle in terms of mess BUT in hindsight I defo wish I did it how you describe. 👍
@@marcushayesford hi Marcus you could then fill the engine bay, don't be disheartened your doing a great job, and your better half has the patience of a saint.
Why don’t you take a two week welding course at tech. It would teach you a lot about welding. Niiiiiiiiiice video though 😊
Maybe one day Ill learn to do stuff properly! 😃
And have a water bucket with a sponge in it preferably a mate inside on fire duty
Defo needed someone on fire duty mate! 😃
@@marcushayesford my mate had a bloke do some welding on his m3 e30 evo on the n/s/f wheelwell, set the interior alight, still needs a lhd dash.
You should get yourself a pop up gazebo for working outdoors in bad weather
Make sure you use CO2 & Argon mix for mig welding and not pure Argon.
Thanks for the advice. In the past I always bought Argon/CO2 mix from Halfords. This time they only had EITHER Argon or CO2 so i just flipped a coin! 😃
Yes bruv lol
👍
Hi Marcus who and how do you insure your cars?
You shouldn't put yourself down these things happen done great job on the welding in the short time you had as you said you get better as the more you do it maybe you had the temperature a bit high which blowing holes maybe so well done getting this far

🏆
Always the same less haste more thought that’s the only problem when you hurry it turn out 💩💩 doo doo. Onwards and upwards now. 😊
Am surprised you attempted that welding yourself, you know enough people, was there nobody else that could do it? and do a better job?
Cougar gas is a lot lighter on car metal if you where down this way id do it for you
marc why dont you just take the mk1 to a welder fella get it done nice mate 10 out of 10 for trying bro
dont beat yourself up over the weding ..it looks ok
It will have to do mate! 👍
Marcus , to keep your ‘ wiring haters ‘ at bay , get some Tessa loom tape . It makes wiring look ‘ the dogs ‘ keep making the vids mate …
Stop beating your self up your trying to it yourself on the deck
Im over it now mate. 👍 Out of sight (under all the sealer and paint) out of mind! 😃
