Ya'ateeh from the Navajo Nation! I like walking meditation - so many times we walk and do not appreciate being outside. It's become a foreign place and we don't appreciate all the good in trees and the life we have on our Mother , the Earth. Keep walking! :)
Since I almost always hike on my own as a way to alleviate my depression and bi-polar, Tosogyo and Tokogatame are things that I have kind of been doing without thinking. I walk in silence (unless I know there are boar about or need to leave a trail quickly) and try to observe everything around me. Then at some point I will stop and just sit quietly for a while. What I am missing are the mantras and sutras but those I will eventually learn when I finally get initiated in Katsuragi Shugen, hopefully next year.
Thanks Gary! I think you're well on your way! Even now The Heart Sutra would be worth memorising. I was going to do a video on just that, but there is a Zen monk called @yogetsuakasaka who does amazing remixes of it. Listening to that and finding a script I think would be a way to do it!
I like the last one. I'm living in Tokyo doing a job I don't really enjoy at the moment. But I'll get through it. The future is bright. I'd love to do a walk with you sometime.
Hanna Shingyo is something I've done, there is a Buddhist monk who has a youtube channel and although a little eccentric, it still teaches the way of the Buddha in a modern format. Tosogyo is something I like to practice more of, since short hiking is what I do. I hope to do some Tsosgyo with you when I come visit soon.
Thanks mate! Yeah, Hanya Shingyo is extremely helpful. It's usually what I recommend to people wanting to join the yamabushi training, but also just for mental health in general. Tosogyo I'd love to do with you!
Super interesting video. Thanks for sharing the it. I walk in nature when I have a chance, and once in a while I run in it, swim in lakes etc. I know it isn't shugendo training but being in nature has always felt meaningful and nice. It's some kind of reconnecting thing. I can't explain it though... just feels good.
thank you for the share - i came across your stuff on a psyche article; amazing to hear something perhaps more (nicely) hardcore the stoicism a budget Hannya Shingyo hack for the viewer: put yourself underneath a cold shower for a few minutes. This may help with resilience, as it's done so for me ✌️
Kia ora. Thanks for your support, and thanks for reading the article in Psyche! Great advice here too, I used to do cold showers, but I guess it got a bit too much for me. Should probably pick up the practice again before summer and waterfall meditation season! Either way, I'm really happy that it has helped you! I know a lot of my friends it has helped too!
There are some interesting parallels and similarities, maybe some differences, between the Yamabushi and Ngagpas of Tibetan Buddhism. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ngagpa

Kia ora Christophe! Yes indeed! So much for bringing nature into the cities. But yes, we must keep walking!

Thanks mate! The last one is probably my favourite too. Yeah, come to Yamagata!
Amazing!
I learned a lot about Yamabushi and how we should live in this world.
Thank you so much for this video.
You’re amazing Tim!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Reiko!
The footage at 1:11 is stunningly majestic !
That's Kamewari-yama! From the Semi Onsen video :)

Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It may not be Shugendo per se, but what you're doing is certainly very close. Thanks for your support as always!

Very useful, thank you!
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you thought so!
Which practices do you you think you would do, or are you already doing? Which practices do you think you wouldn't do? Let me know your thoughts!

@@troycfrantz Thanks! There's a lot of similarities probably because that's where a lot of it originates! Great article, lots for me to digest :)
